How are y’all? I haven’t read yet but I will. Seems I will be reading a lot and posting a lot since I twisted My bad ankle again. Deep sigh. I got my boot back on and I’m gonna have Sonny boy Get my knee scooter out of the attic.
There must be some weird movie Mars Venus moon sun retrograde shit going on cause it continues. Yesterday my smoke detector chirped all day so Buddy wouldn’t leave the bed after fishing him out from under the other bed with the broom. Of course, it had the be the one 20 feet up and sunny boy was on the job and couldn’t take time to come take it down. I called electrician and he couldn’t come so all day yesterday I thought buddy was gonna die because he never drank, ate peed or pooed. Just lay Undercovers shivering and shaking. Sonny boy finally shows up with a ladder and I had him to just take the whole freaking detector away from the house because this one has given me to trouble. I will replace it. Buddy is fine today.
A few days ago the freezer in the fridge started making a funny noise so I figure is It was dying So I bought a new fridge which will be here between one and four today. It’s just money. I doubt I could have even got a repair person since a lot People were without power and needed repair after that. Plus, new fridge. I have a slow leak in one of my tires and I have an appointment today to fix that but had to cancel due to fridge and ankle.
The good news department is the weather has cooled off nicely. Lows in high 50’s and highs in the low 70’ I don’t think it’s gonna last. It’s supposed to get back in the 80s later this week.
Now I’m off to read the MMP to see what you lot have been up to. Will be to offer hugs, boos yay all that. Please overlook typos as anyone everyone typed on an iPad laying down can tell you it ain’t easy.
Last night’s show was awesome. Everyone on stage was a master of his instrument, so the music was terrific, but also the bar area wound up being a “who’s who” of the DC jazz scene! I always prefer to sit at the bar in that venue: it’s a small club and the tables are pretty crowded, plus the bar area – in the back of the space – is elevated. And, that night’s musicians tend to hang out there before/between shows. Best seats in the house every time, for my money.
I didn’t get home as early as I thought, though, because I decided to take advantage of already being out and go to the grocery store for weekend provisions. There are a couple of shows tomorrow night that I’m interested in, but I’m also kind of tired – it’s been a long week/month – and there’s a good chance I won’t leave my house again until Monday, when I’ll be going back to the office to help troubleshoot some IT stuff. (Oh, except for Saturday afternoon: I finally scheduled a bivalent booster and flu shot!) I figured it couldn’t hurt to get more bananas, strawberries, granola, sugar-free dark chocolate, etc., in the house sooner vs later.
Work isn’t too bad today (so far), and my one afternoon meeting just got cancelled, but I’m still ready for the day to be over. I’m about to take a lunch break…maybe that will help.
Quoted for truth! When I’m on my couch I have to be practically laying down so my tailbone doesn’t hurt, and that’s exactly why I rarely post in the evenings.
You can basically copy/paste Taters’ weather report to get my weather. Taters, they’re saying a 100% chance of rain tomorrow night. They’d better not change their minds. It’s weird: we’ve had this terrible drought and enough smoke to make the air quality the worst in the world, yet I haven’t seen any national news stories on it. Also, it’d be nice, Ma Nature, if you sent this stuff to the climate-change-deniers only. Just a suggestion! Don’t get mad and shake the ground or anything.
Today I’m making my annual trip to REI to get my son-in-law’s birthday gift card. I also have to get to the gym, water plants, do laundry, get cash, and print my train tickets for tomorrow. I access the tickets on my phone, but I like to have a backup.
Butters, a smoke detector chirping all day would drive me stark, raving mad. I don’t know how you stood it. Poor Buddy. Yikes on the other stuff, though a new fridge sounds nice, just not the reason for it. Hope you heal up soon!
Taters, glad you’re starting to feel like yourself again.
nettie, never have so many people told someone to go dry up and meant it so fondly and positively.
FCM, you must move at lightning speed to get all that done in 45 minutes. Imagine how much we as a country could get done if you were our president. You even have a campaign slogan: Because She’s Nice, Dammit!
Hugs to all! I’m off to try to get half as much done in a day as FCM does in an hour.
My son isn’t feeling well, so I went back to bed after picking him up at 3am. I wasn’t going to go to the park, but I caved in to the pressure. Everybody at the park is willing to help me with Echo.
It was a nice time, and I got to wear my new coat.
It’s big and bulky and uncomfortable, but I was warm in it.
Cerby was supposed to get here around 9, but that got shifted to almost 11. It has been lots of fun. Echo got out of the yard several times because she pushed open the door and ran out when the gate was open. Fortunately, she was too interested in Cerby to go far. Cerby got through the railing and got into the neighbor’s yard. Cerby has gone after Ripple once, which is okay because Ripple doesn’t care. Echo has gone after Cerby twice, because Echo is a bitch. Cerby is on meds for anxiety, and omg, when he gets upset and whines it could make your ears bleed. He truly sounds like he is being murdered.
I want my son to call in sick tonight. I’m not sure I can handle the three of them when my son gets off in the middle of the night. Cerby is crate trained so I could leave him home, but if howls like that in the middle of the night, he is going wot wake the neighbors.
Niece1’s soon to be ex fixed the railing. He bought three pieces of lattice, but only used one. I should take the other two back, but I’d rather find another use for it.
It’s almost 2, and I need breakfast.
I’ll catch up with what y’all are doing later.
I need to catch my breath, and eat something.
Monkey howled to be let outside. He poked his head out the door, tried to climb me, and is now attempting to free Charm because a moving string (snake) is way more interesting than the great outdoors.
He should be interested, as the turkey flock came through earlier today.
Just reading all that and now I have to catch my breath. Hope your son feels better (but after staying home) and the dogs get along.
Sorry, nope. And he just retired, so he has even more time for baseball.
Taters and nellie, I am crossing all appendages that you get the promised rain, and then some. And especially that that smoke goes away and stays away. I was there for the beginning of the Bolt Fire - it’s hard to believe it’s still going.
We got the first drizzle of 36 hours of raindrops while coming home this evening. Stopped at the grocery store and discovered they put in new shelves, which are taller, so they have more stuff, especially a lot more fresh fruit and vegetables, which is good.
And they put in self-check out!!! Except for Christmas Eve, they only have a maximum of two check-out lanes open, out of a possible four. So there’s almost always a wait. Plus they added the possibility to scan while shopping, so my grocery shopping’s going to be easier, plus there’s more stuff to buy.
Probably my neighbors won’t be as happy. That’s okay with me.
Time to wind down for the evening - Friday’s almost here!
We’re still waiting to get the keys. My hubby has blown several gaskets. It’s really minor stuff. I’m hoping he’ll be on an even keel after we get settled in. It’s just turning into a day.
It’s still smoky, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. We’re on the north end of the bay, so Birch Point is closer; but I could see Point Whitehorn at the other end so I could see both points from the berm. I wore my KN95 mask anyway.
The Spousal Unit came home between patients. She texted me just as my phone finished telling me my pace at the two-mile mark. She said it’s clear enough that she left the back door open so the kitties can go out into the catio.
I matched my personal best today at 3.22 mph. Or 3.20 mph according to WoofTrax. It’s always a little slower, and I do start it before MapMyWalk. Looks like I just reached Level 18 on WoofTrax and in the 8th position. Next walker behind me is Level 13. I’m catching up to the position 7 person who is at Level 21. S/he does not appear to be an active walker. I’ll probably move into position 7 eventually. Position 1 through 6 have active walkers, so I’ll never catch up or overtake them. Numero Uno is at Level 103.
ETA: Since I downloaded the WoofTrax app, I’ve gone on 118 walks and covered 281.5 miles.
Afternoon all. Spent some extra time at the gym and got two 500’s in–500 calories on the stationary bikes and 500 yards in the pool. So am nicely tired but not exhausted. Still waiting for the recycle folks to make pickup (they are supposed to be here on the 3rd Thursday of the month but are not real dependable for it). Cheeburger is defrosted and will be cooked in a few hours.
Also finished filling up my car tires for 0.75 cents. So of course I overdid it, they are now (according to the car computer) at 38-39psi (36 is the optimum). Ah well, another cold snap will bring them down again.
Sari, hope the new dog arrangement settles in quickly; after a few days Echo and Ripple realize they have a new pack member and you’ll see what the new dynamics are. Tkae care of yourself.
Sunny, hope husband-unit gets his gaskets replaced and the keys are produced.
nellie, safe travels.
Oopsie, sounds like it was a really fun night. And must be a 24-hour grocery.
{{Butters}}. Had a smoke detector chirp a couple of times, I try to keep the batteries changed but… enjoy the new fridge (side-by-side or top-n-bottom?)
Taters, nellie, hope the rains come and clear up your air.
I’m still not caught up on all of the new tasks that came out of this afternoon’s work-related sh stuff, but what’s left can wait so I’m callin’ it a day. I’m looking forward to having some chicken fries and a side of corn for dinner, with strawberries for dessert, and maybe catching up on a little TV before tonight’s first pitch.
Die_Capacitrix’s post reminds me that I used self-checkout at the store last night. I generally avoid self-checkout, but when I was ready to leave only one regular lane was open and the person staffing it was nowhere in sight. I had kind of a lot of stuff – for self-checkout – but all went smoothly until I tried to ring up the packaged strawberries: I’d noticed the lack of any sticker indicating a “packed on” date (but decided to chance it, knowing that I’ll eat them all by tomorrow night), but failed to realize there was also no barcode. And they aren’t something you weigh/look up – unlike the bananas, which I rang up like a pro! I offered to walk over to the produce section and check the price, but the person staffing the self-checkout asked if I was OK with a guesstimate of $3/package and I said sure. The next time I’m there I’ll have to remember to check and see what I should have paid. All in all, nowhere near the nightmare self-checkout experience I was expecting.
Yay for keys, Sunny!!
It’s open until midnight, but it was only 9pm-ish when I was there.
Howdy Y’all! Nice, slothful day here at Chez Bear. Temps in the upper 60s have made for some nice airin’ out of da cave. The biggest thing today is sup got cooked and et and the kitchen got cleanded up. Have I mentioned lately how much I love bein’ a retired drain on society?
The church ladies have gone rogue. Accordin’ to this week’s newsletter, they want to put a PLAGUE in the rock garden (it has rocks, a little fountain and a statue of St. Partick) in honor of the lady who donated the money to put in the rock garden. It’s a pretty garden. I don’t want it to have a plague.
Butters hope the ankle is better soonest. Ick about the smoke detector. Poor Buddy! Yay for new garage fridge!
sari hope all the doggies settle down soon.
Oopsie glad you had a good time last night.
BooFae glad you had a good time last night, as well.
Die I would like scan as you go for grocery shoppin’. I am in favor of anything that would get me in and out of the grocery sto’ ASAP.
Taters, Nellie, Flyboy, and any PNW Mumpers I missed hope y’all get that promised rain.
Sunny yay for keys to the new place. Hope hubby’s gasket didn’t blow out too bad.
Was just an ugh day here. I sent out estimates/quotes to two different clients on monday and tuesday. These are people I’ve worked with before, and yet, zero response. Either tell me it’s too expensive or say start. [Inigo Montoya voice] I hate waiting.[IMV] But I did do a batch of things for one of the shops I work with, delivered and paid, so that’s nice.
And I think Jaws from James Bond just walked past my house. I heard an odd rumbly voice outside, couldn’t make out any words, then looked out the window and there was a couple strolling by. The dude was huge.
As per usual, read much, retained little. Big one I did retain was, Yay!, sunny on the keys.
Two different medical-related appointments (physical therapist, routine-ish BP check) and left some blood at the lab. Got home, ordered magic Internet Chinese food, including hot & sour soup for somewhat ill DH. His blood sugar is running alarmingly high today, so he’s definitely got some bug or other.
We had a dinner date - at Texas Roadhouse. It was torture, but I didn’t have a yeast roll I can’t just have just one, so I didn’t have any. Go me! I ran to WalMart after since they had a good deal on Diet Coke, and boy, did it get dark fast on the way home! I definitely don’t like driving when it gets dark.
FCD had a bad day - his dad kept referring to him as “the cab driver” - he’s so out of it. MIL is just fried, and BIL is having a rough time dealing with all the changes. FCD keeps wondering if he did the right thing moving them here - but they’d be having the same problems 800 miles away (minus BIL’s issues.) We so need our anniversary break - more than a month away, tho…
Believe me metal mouse, you’re no pest going for air at DT. They even have a special lane for it. I, too, overfilled a bike tire when I was an adolescent. Only it 'sploded while I was pumping.
Hope that you get things taken care of with your knee cookie.
Glad the crud is lessening taters.
Ouch on the ankle butters. When your son replaces the smoke detector, have him put it where you can reach it.
I like your rainbow swirl shoe.
Hope that your son feels better soon sari.
Yay for keys sunny!
Irked, came home, took the little beast to the dog park (he got to hang on the big dog side with his [little] buddy Layla, Mack the bulldog, his sibs Maiden and Blitz (greyhounds), Loki, the lab mix and Tony, the labradoodle. A good time was had by all.
