I offered to heat up the leftover poke chops for dinner, but was declined. So I’m making myself a pepperoni pizza on a cauliflower crust.
I got the gift card, put it inside the birthday card, and was heading for the door when my nephew called. He has severe OCD, so calling me means multiple hand washings beforehand; therefore, I hate to miss his calls. After that, I went to the gym. I was just climbing the stairs to my apartment when I got tackle-slurped by the dog I walked when her person was recuperating from surgery. The people who moved in downstairs and across the hall have a big ceramic turtle (Think Pogo.) by their door, and every dog that sees it barks and wants at it. Nice to know dogs are keeping us safe from…turtles.
We got 20 minutes of mist, which didn’t work affect the smoke at all. Earthlings, beware: we are your canary in a cage.
I’m going to dog-sit this sweet pup in December. Yay!
FCM, a geriatric nurse told me any change in routine or location throws dementia patients for a loop and exacerbates the symptoms. I hope FCD’s dad improves in the days ahead. FCD must find all this very upsetting.
VanGo, I hope these folks contact you with good news soon.
Ask Mercutio said, a plaque on both their houses!
Evening all. Told the 12U soccer team three times (verbally and by e-mail) that there was no practice tonight, so of course I moseyed over there just to be sure. Walked down and helped my friend Bob with the 4-year olds (there is a reason his e-mail starts with 'mad bob") which was fun, then home and fixed myself a chee-burger for dinner. Now watching tackleball on Amazon and checking out Legal Eagle and English Soccer on You Tube.
FCM, love them rolls at Texas Roadhouse, the dark bread at Longhorn, and the usually very hot rolls at Logan’s…it’s to the point that going to Olive Garden for the breadsticks sin’t that special anymore.
Seanette, best wishes to DH.
swampy, typing is hard for little old church ladies…

Oopsie, I’ll use the self-checkout for 6-8 items, but if I have a basketfull I’ll usually wait for the checkout–except at Wal-Mart, you’re lucky if they have one checkout open.
Sunny, YEAH!! on the keys.
OK, onward into the night. All y’all take care.
Normal heave. But the people upstairs moved out, so they have been spending 10 hours a day renovating itthrowing bowling balls around. During naptime.
Carmen came with a small compressor. It’s nice to have.

Hubs got his hearing aids back today and life is good again.
Sunny, congrats on the keys. Moving is one of the most stressful things you can do, no surprise that your husband’s blood pressure spiked. Do try to not overdue the unpacking. I know you probably want to get the boxes OUT now, but if you take your time now, you won’t spend so much time rearranging later. Also, write the date on any boxes you put into storage. When you run across them a couple of years from now, you will know that you didn’t need any of it so you can dispose of it.
nettie I hope your DH recovers soon, there’s some nasty stuff going around. I haven’t had the crud since I retired but while I was delivering the last batch of food to the food stamp office, it was crowded with unmasked people who were all hacking and sniffling. Now I have a sore throat.
Ya know, swampy…I’d be highly tempted to sneak up on the rock garden at night and pour cheap beer over the granite. That will make the moss grow up the rocks in a most plague-like fashion. What? I have reserved seating in the handbasket!
Yep, they want you getting into the habit of going there whenever you have a tire issue so you remember to go to them when you need new tires. The tire filler-up guys out here won’t take tips, but if you can get one to hold still long enough for you to read their name off their shirt (they hustle!) and send an email, you will get a nice email back. I like to think that could help them get a raise which is better than a one time tip anytime.
I did not asplode my bicycle tire. I asploded my little sister’s bicycle tire and we both walked home wailing our lungs out.
This weather has been so crazy, I was out picking tomatoes and saw flowers on both the cherries and the Romas. My snapdragons are trying to make a comeback and the 4 o’clocks haven’t stopped blooming.
It’s strange, so strange, you’ve got to pick up every stitch… ![]()
shoe, that is an beautiful piece of work. The way you worked it is amazing and is certainly not something I would have tried. I always get really jealous of people with a good eye for color which you obviously have.
I’m a double-Gemini. The Sun and the Moon were both in Gemini when I was born. What does that mean?
Nothing!
[I do like to say I’m a ‘Jemminiee’ because I was born in the Space Age.]
Oh fabulous, my glasses just fell apart while I was cleaning them. Guess I gotta go visit the glasses place tomorrow. I’ve only had this pair about 6 months.
That totally bites. did the frame break, or did you just lose a screw? It wouldn’t really matter much to me, I can barely see those teeny tiny screws with my glasses on. I hope you don’t get a headache.
I’m really sure I am coming down with something so I’m going to deny it so much I sound like a certain ex-president. If I get sick with anything at all, that will let hubs say “so what about all those vaccinations you keep getting?” and I will say “this crud isn’t something that can be vaccinated against” and he will say"…and GG will end up with a little brother.
When we moved in, I bought rose colored black out curtains for our bedroom. It has only been 4 years and the sun has not only faded the back of the curtains (where I wouldn’t care at all), the front edges are starting to fade. I don’t buy expensive curtains because cats, but I really did expect them to last longer than 4 years.
I ordered some longer drapes because I read that drapes make the room look bigger and today Hubs hung them for me along with rearranging my framed needlework. My side of the bedroom looks very nice, his side is bare and stark. I’d really like to do something on that wall, but he’s the one who should pick what he looks at when he wakes up every day, so I guess if he’s happy that is all that matters.
I bet he likes looking at you first thing when he wakes up and that is art enough for him, why mess with perfection?
Boo you’re so sweet, you’re gonna give us all cavities.
Monkey pried the lid off one of the rat tubs tonight. He’s also been excellent at finding the little escapists, and I think (hope) between the two of us we’ve relocated all of them.
One way to find out …
Oh, and guess who’s having free ribs AGAIN for dinner tonight? Another
ordered ribs and never showed up. Plus at least one pizza (those generally get set on top of the dumpster, for the local down-on-luck folks, and/or seagulls).
I mean, yay free dinner for me. But STILL.
I’ll throw 'em under the broiler in a bit. For now, it’s time for a smoke.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
That sucks. Does your glasses place have the breakage insurance?
Boy’s trying to s his own Hunger Games, isn’t he?
Awwww. Feel better.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 36 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. I shall betake myself over to the church house this mornin’ to deal with some stuff. We have decided that we shall go for the geezer special at the hog trough GC, which shall take care of the need to feed for the day. I will also send out the monthly email to various and sundry folk about servin’ on Sundays durin’ November.
MetalMouse in this case, instead of a little old church lady, the newsletter is sent out by a twenty-six year old Parish Administrator. It does, however, still amuse me.
Nettie hope DH is feelin’ better soonest.
MOOOOOOM here’s hopin’ the inlaws get better adjusted in the comin’ days and make it a little less stressful for FCD and you. Y’all did do the right thing in gettin’ them close by.
JtC hope whatever it is you’re comin’ down with goes away soonest.
shoe hope you found all the ratties. Also, yay for free ribs!
VanGo hope you here from the folks soon and that you get a quick fix for your glasses.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and oh so much bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Why must I suffer so!
Happy Firday Y’all!
That, my dear, is an understatement for the ages… Change in routine, change in location, and erratic meds - I’m sure all that contributes to his dad’s worsening condition.
In my less, um, smart eating days, I could snarf down 4 of them slathered with the cinnamon-honey butter. Even next day, zapped in the microwave, they’re good.
My MIL always seemed obsessed with arranging furniture so the room “looked bigger” - I can understand doing that when the place is on the market, but for everyday living, why not do what works for you? Her guest room bed was so close to the window, it was nearly impossible to move along that side, while there was tons of room on the other side of the bed. It just seemed so stupid and inconvenient. Besides, the only way to make a room look bigger is to install a wall of mirrors! ![]()
I woke at 2, dammit, kinda dozed till 3, but I’ve been up ever since. I got all showered, dressed, and fed, then got a text from Daughter - Roxy has a fever. Daughter can’t take the day off - she’s got a prospective parent/student coming in today and her #2 is still out sick. So I’ll be going over to their house just after noon to tend the kidlets. At least it’ll make it easier for me to do laundry today - I can even hang stuff outside! Plus I can run to Food Lion at my leisure.
Daughter & fambly & the grands were supposed to go to a Halloween event tomorrow, but that’s off since Roxy is sick. However, it makes things easier on us, since BIL was nervous about driving there and we might have had to help out. Maybe we can go to a movie or something.
Always something, right? Happy Firday anyway!!
I think it’s just a screw loose on my glasses, but I can’t see anything that small without my glasses. S’pose that’s a catch-22. I have back-ups, so I can drive and such, but I ain’t using any power tools.
Mornin’ everyone.
Tis currently 49 degrees and dampish with an expected high of 51, rain, and temp variances throughout the day ranging from 51 down to 47. We did receive a five-minute rain shower yesterday, but it did nothing to clear the skies. A little later we received some drizzle, again, the thick smoke prevailed.
I don’t feel awful, but my sinuses are still bunged up and my voice was doing funny and interesting things yesterday. I guess it’s better than feeling icky.
I don’t really have much on the agenda for today. I need to go up and pick up dog poo before the rain really sets in. I also need to hose down the porch because Polar had tummy issues and barely made it out the door yesterday before dropping a deuce on the top step. Poor guy.
Either I or the husband needs to get to the store because we had an EMERGENCY yesterday. The husband couldn’t find the doggie ice cream and thought we were all out. I saved the day and found ONE in the freezer. To run out of doggie ice cream is a MORTAL SIN according to Polar. He is quite demanding about his dessert and will arooooooooooo-woo-woo and stomp-stomp until he receives his reward for having eaten all of his dinner. Oh, he tries to fool us sometimes, but we check the bowl and tell him he can’t have any ice cream until he eats his dinner. He shakes his head, and snorts, but eats the rest of dinner and then starts the woo-woo-AROOOOOOOO-stomp dance again. Entertaining and noisy. Polar is an old guy, and I want his last days to be happy and comfortable. I am surprised he’s still with us and active as he is and I don’t take his presence for granted.
JtC, I hope you’re feeling better soon!
That’s all the news from my smoke-infested little corner of the world. I hope you all have a terrific day.
VanGo, 6 months to a breakdown is not a sign of good glasses. I’d take it back to whoever provided then and make them fix it (used to do this with Wal-Mart and never had an issue).
FCM, hope you don’t catch Roxy’s crud.
Shoe, Monkey’s gonna end up in trouble one of these days prying lids off like that. Enjoy the ribs.
JtC, down south in Ali-bama, most places don’t have drapes, we have window blinds/shades; mine are the same ones that came with the house. Be well.
OK, need sustenance, so everyone take care now. 44F heading for 74F so hopefully Mom Nature will warm up the house here in a bit. Swimmin’ is the major activity for the day.
I’ve got somebody’s crud, but it’s hard to tell whose. Yesterday I was sneezy and constantly blowing my nose, and my throat was a little sore. Today, it just seems to be a drippy nose. FCD has a raggedy voice and he says he feels like crap - we’re all sharing our crud here.
I went to Food Lion specifically to get the whole chickens they have on sale - they were out. Dammit. But I got other stuff I needed. All the supplies are now stowed and there’s a load in the washer and at least 3 more on deck. I should get 2 more washed before I have to go, but the 3rd will sit in the dryer while I’m babysitting.
FCD and I are going to look at the movie listings and decide if there’s something we want to see. We’re agreed on no horror, which cuts the choices in half. May or may not happen.
He’s off to Social Security to try to understand SSI and disability. His mother handled his brother’s SS stuff but she didn’t understand what it all was. She just kept talking about $2000, which is a limit on assets under SSI. Since he’ll be handling his brother’s finances from here on out, my poor sweetie is trying to understand what he needs to know. From Social Security. He’s become very familiar with the local office.
OK, off to do something constructive, I guess…
nellie, I just love the tackle slurped phrase. It’s what my friend’s great Pyrenees gives me when we meet (sometimes he nearly drowns Nelson doing that, but they’re buddies, so both tails are wagging).
VanGo, I hope that the glasses are still under warranty.
Hope you’re feeling better soonest JtC. If not, we’ll need pics of GG’s new brother. ![]()
I hope that all of the PNW Mumpers are breathing OK.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels / throw rugs in the dryer, a load of jeans in the wash and the rest of the clothes on deck. Fixing to begin cleaning the abode, then going on to buy groceries. I’ll need to make a small batch of cornbread tonight for the sausage - cornbread stuffed butternut squishes I’ll make for Sunday dinner.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 15c/59f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and cloudy. It looks pretty grey and dismal outside now, shame as it was lovely and sunny this morning. Weather app says “Sometimes, stratus clouds are known as “high fog”. I knew it! Fucking dope smokers!”
I’m glad it’s Friday, it feels like it’s been a long week. I’ve spent most of it faffing about with assessment spreadsheets because a load of ours are wrong. Trying to get the correct info out of academics is like trying to get a straight answer out of a politician.
{{{{{Feel better soon, sickies}}}}}
Mooom it must be heartbreaking for you both to see FCD’s dad in such a bad way. It only natural for him to question the wisdom of moving them to be closer to you but the reality is that he’s dealing with this on his doorstep instead of hundreds of miles away. He has far more control over things now than he did before, and that has to be a good thing.
VanGo I hope you get your specs fixed! I had to buy some generic reading glasses after mine came to pieces just at the start of a long-haul flight. That taught me to always pack a spare pair! Luckily I was also able to buy a repair kit with spare tiny screws, and had someone who was able to see to do the fixing for me.
Swampy I am amused at the idea of the plague too, it’s amazing sometimes how easily I am amused by things like that.
I realize no show customers are a pain, but this seems a little harsh. Hopefully only the adults get this treatment.
Good morning everyone. Still at the lake, camping until next week. Proud to report the old coffee maker in the camper is working great, but I forgot to bring wine. Well, I got 50% of the neccessities covered… Right?
All that’s planned for today is lounging, and hoping the fish leave my lure alone so I don’t have to put down my book.
