Grab a leaf rake in the MMP!

Howdy all. My ankle is not as bad as last time. I’m still going to baby it a while. My epsom salt and voltaran cream come today and some cloth braces for nighttime. The boot is just too bulky to wear at night. Maybe this time I’ll be well in a few weeks.

My BFF from high school invited me to go on a cruise with her. Her husband just passed a couple months ago. She has never cruised but I said I’d go so we are off to Grand Turk and Amber Cove
{ Carnival’s private island that is actually on The Dominican Republic) Best is she got a Grand Suite. I’ve never cruised with a suite. She doesn’t want me to pay half but I will. We will leave and return from Cape Canaveral so Sonny boy can drop us off and pick us up to save parking fee. Also, Sonny boy and his girl shall stay at my house with my pets. Buddy is so mean I can’t possibly leave him with anyone he doesn’t know.

Swampy I too get kicks from stuff like the typo. FCM Are the in-laws all settled into their own apartment with settled being subjective I know? In other words they are not at your house?

New fridge is nice. It’s just a freezer on top.I think it’s the exact model I had before but newer of course. It fits the spot. I had the old one taken away but did briefly consider a garage fridge for beer but I am alone here so I don’t need that much beer. I also didn’t need a piece of junk to get rid of once it finished dying. The delivery guy said he may keep it for a beer fridge though.

I hope the smoke clears for you guys Taters and Nellie and flyboy.

Pretty piece Shoe. It looks like a hurricane.

Red* your food always sounds so good and you use ingredients I would never put together. I’m an unimaginative cook. Just the basics. I don’t know why I don’t use recipes and experiment more, it’s not like I got anything else to do. Except garden which I need to get my little stool out there and pull some weeds. Always weeds.

Yay on new house Sunny. What JtC said about not unpacking too early. Im dealing with some of this having to move shit around. I still have not unpacked a bunch too. Mostly clothes. I never go anywhere but once it cools off I’ll need more than shorts, tee shirts and mumu’s.

I’m watched the game last night but fell asleep before it was over so I need to go see the final score. I am on the last episode of Dahmer thank goodness. I’m amazed I haven’t had any nightmares about that yet. His father wrote a book I’d read but won’t buy. In fact I think his father helped create the monster by bringing roadkill home to be dissected. Who does that?

Sonny boy and Sherry are bringing steaks from the butcher shop and cooking here tonight. Friday was always steak night when hubs was alive.

Happy Friday to all that celebrate.

Amtrak just informed me my train is going to be an hour late due to “late operations.” In other words, it’s running late because it’s running late. Oh, Amtrak, you’re so droll. My friend can still take me (I pay her.), and actually this works out better for me because my doctor’s appointment isn’t until 3, so I have less time to kill. Even if it runs another hour late, I’m good. After that, it gets dicey. If they cancel it entirely, I’m screwed, and not in the pearl-clutching sense.

Same here re: smoke, Taters. It’s still too dark to tell how smoky it is out there. The forecast flipped, and now we have a 100% chance of rain today and 89% chance tonight. Hopefully some of that makes it to the fires. I hadn’t thought of it, but I wonder if all the smoke didn’t exacerbate your crud symptoms. One of my friends here got smoke-sick.

Also, Taters, I love how smart and funny Polar is! Is his ice cream Frosty Paws? My dog used to go crazy for that stuff. My daughter called it “canine crack.”

VanGo, I hope you get a free repair/replacement for the specs, since they were obviously defective. Whew on having a backup pair!

BooFae, that’s one of the best weather forecasts yet! The political chaos isn’t affecting you personally, I hope.

Don’t forget the ceiling!

Okay, this made me laugh.

What a drama-llama. Sounds like the canine version of Monkey!

So’s mine, but for a different (and less malicious) reason.

I gotta remember to tell my manager this one.

He is such a funny boy. Yes, for the most part, his ice cream is Frosty Paws, but for about three years or so, I was forced to get the doggy ice cream at Mud Bay, which was more expensive than Frosty Paws. Safeway had stopped carrying it, and we can’t have Polar go without now, can we? His favorite flavor from Mud Bay was the peanut butter/banana. He literally chose that over the cheddar/bacon about 90% of the time. Safeway is back to carrying Frosty Paws, but it’s hit or miss, so we still have to augment with the Mud Bay offerings. Fortunately, Mud Bay is next to our Safeway, so I don’t have to go far.

In further glasses news, I went over to the store, but they’re closed today, will be open again on monday. Then I remembered I have a left-over digital microscope from an old exhibit. I hooked that up to the 'puter and saw the screw was still there, so I put them back together myself. I’m still going back monday, but at least I’ll be able to see what’s on my phone.

Ingenious!

Back from a walk over to a fairly nearby Filipino supermarket that had a sauce DH wanted (he met it at a restaurant we ate at fairly recently and really liked it). Good way to decompress after finding out someone at OnTrac decided that lying about a delivery being refused (hint: I did no such thing!) and sending the package back, after I wasted most of the week trying to sort out an alleged address issue, was a great customer relations move. Fortunately, Bath & Body Works was all over reshipping my items, and the nice lady on the phone said she’d do her best to make sure the second try goes by a different carrier.

Aside from some PT exercises (he really wants to work on my balance), no deliveries other than the mail (which today will contain a book I’m looking forward to), no urgent tasks that I know of. Currently binging the Beatles via Amazon Music, petting cats who show signs of wanting attention, and generally slothing. Been very tired lately, but generally not sleeping more than a few hours at a time. Ugh.

DH seems to be feeling better. Blood sugar was sane this morning and he felt up to going to irk.

Tomorrow, gotta remember to return an overdue library book (forgot it was here for a couple of weeks!) and try to get DH to get that flu shot (he’ll be 60 next month, he’s diabetic, and his immune system doesn’t seem to be as strong as it was before the broken leg).

Yay! It’s raining! :cloud_with_rain:

Only…

Every year we have a big pile of tree trimmings in the fire pit that we can’t burn because of the burn ban. And every year, the burn ban isn’t lifted until the rainy season starts. So when we do have a sunny day, we can’t burn them because they’re wet. The Spousal Unit changed the shower curtain. I took the old shower curtain out back and put it over most of the brush pile and weighted it down with logs. So I’m hoping that when the burn ban is off, and we have a sunny day, the pile will be dry enough to ignite.

I also need to cover the firewood that’s on the deck.

I also need to put a new switch on the stove. Whenever we use the large front element, the living room circuit breaker trips. Why? I don’t know. They’re on different circuits (with different voltages). But a double sawbuck is a cheaper experiment than calling in an electrician.

I also need to fix the flood light fixture outside the side door. Playing with electrical things outside in the rain is not something I really want to do. Might wait until it stops raining.

flyboy Probably wise to wait for the end of the rain. Don’t let the smoke out of the wires, they don’t work so good after that.

Good evening!

We’re getting our drizzle on, but not as much as expect. Not as dry as PNW, and the grass is still green and growing, but it’s still warmer than usual and the mountains aren’t very white. I think the beginning of the ski season’s already been delayed due to lack of snow.

Work is lots of research and putting together numbers and dates. I prefer tasks that are easier to define the end. Planning seems to be one of those things that just go on forever, until the task is actually in the past.

Since it’s wet, no chance to cut the grass or prune the roses. I would like to get them pruned before the town stops picking up green waste for the year. I pruned the roses in August, and one has grown about a foot, the other, about 2 feet. Weirdo plants.

Watched The Force Awakens last weekend, so maybe we’ll watch The Last Jedi this weekend. I really enjoy the music from John Williams - probably because he’s composed so much of the music from popular movies.

Or maybe we’ll just go to bed early. Changed the sheets today, so there’s fresh sheets on the bed. Which reminds me - gotta go check the dryer.

That’s what I try to tell him, but he can’t help but wonder…

Roxy is in her parents’ bed watching cartoons and Tobias is entertaining me. Hope daughter has an early day. I have one more load of laundry.

Heaving was smoother than yesterday. Although the odd thing in overgoods I had to deal with was some lady’s PC monitor and all her Spectrum cable gear that she had heaved (loose) into a UPS drop box, and wrote “returned from < name and address redacted to protect moron’s privacy >” on it. At least I sent it back to her on Spectrum’s dime(dogbutler: sticking it to The Man!), so she can try again.

Feel better, all you sick twisted people!

Lady, you’re singin’ my song.

I thought I sleep “quietly” but lately I’ve been waking up to find my pile of sheet/blankets/quilts totally inverted, with the flat sheet sometimes rolled or bundled off to the side, and the top quilt now at the bottom while everything else is twisted so I can’t even cover my ankles and shoulders at the same time.

I blame the cat.

(Guess I thrash around more than I knew. Dunno, I’m asleep at the time.)

Well crap! I had to put on shoes and socks this morning for the first time in, what, 5 months?
Which means I had to trim my toenails of steel. Temps are forecast to be in the 50s for the next several. Also in ‘the valley’, where we have to go in a couple of hours. It’s also smokey over there. Oh goody.

I heartily endorse this sentiment. We feel the same way about Gibbs. His poor little heart isn’t going to last a whole lot longer, so we spoil him. The big treat in his life is his ‘walks’. The vet told us we shouldn’t walk him but it means so much to him that I drive him down the street to the park, a whole 3 blocks, and he runs around sniffing up all the news and leaving his mark, including ‘dropping trou’. Then I put him back in the car and drive him home. He really wants to walk down, but when I relent, I usually end up carrying him back.
Wifey can’t do it anymore 'cause she has a messed up Psoas muscle on her left side and it hurts her to walk.

Hope everybody gets to feeling excellent soonest, and have a wonderful weekend!

Turns out Wifey didn’t put up the new shower curtain; she just took the old one down. I put the new one up.

I’ve replaced the switch for the front-left element on the stove. I turned it on for a few minutes, and it didn’t blow the unrelated circuit. Replacing the switch is really easy, now that I know how to do it. I just have to remember to unplug the stove before I do it next time.

There’s a new take-out pizza place in town (well, off of the freeway). Mia Moglie says she’ll bring a pizza home tonight. I requested thin crust.

Howdy Y’all! I did the things and we had geezer N.O.L. at the hog trough GC. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ filled in the rest of the day.

Taters I’m with Polar. Don’t mess around with dessert!

Nettie glad DH is feelin’ better.

MOOOOOOM hope y’all don’t get too crudded up.

Nellie hope you made it to your appointment and back OK.

FlyBoy it’s always good when pizza appears.

Bumba I know what you mean. It’s always such a chore when I have to put on real clothes and go amongst the great unwashed.

doggio she just threw a monitor and cable stuff into a drop box? The stoopid is strong in this one!

But maybe not this early in the day. I just had lunch!

Thank you for the compliment butters. Living by myself, if I don’t try to come up with different things, I tend to go through the drive up waaaaaay too often.

I love the digital solution VanGo! (says the woman who scans light printing on stuff and mess with the contrast to be able to read it when trying to ID photos)

bumba, I’ve found that the secret weapon to my thick / ugly toenails is a dremmel. YMMV.

Houseirk and grocery shopping is done, dog park visited and supper et.

As I was walking from the parking lot into Kroger, a silver, older F150 came speeding (around 40mph clear down to the store entrance) in. I raised my arm to flag the !@#$%^& down and when he rolled down the window, warned him to slow down so he didn’t kill someone. He was wearing a town police uniform. :open_mouth: He said that there was a report of a fight there. WTF? He was in his personal vehicle (or at least one with no LEO markings) and should know that cars would be backing out of parking spaces and people would be on foot out there. What a dumb@$$. Anyway, I’m in the process of making a complaint to the local PD.

This. Not to mention that Grumpy Old Man cat sleeps between our pillows…

There are times that I am really happy to have a not so smart cat.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone, I think it was just psychosomatic crud because of all the coughing and snorting in the lobby. My throat is just a little itchy but I’m smoking some new stuff that makes me cough a lot so I’m blaming it on that.

You can all start calling me Cleopatra because I am the QUEEN of de Nile.

How funny! It’s always good when our old pets have enough energy to stomp and woo at us

MIL in West Virginia had fabric things that framed the windows but couldn’t be closed over the blinds. The ones in the guest bedroom were handmade using plastic needlepoint canvas. Despite me thinking it looked country and non functional, I complimented her on her creativity and was punished by being given a stack of patterns for plastic canvas.

The new drapes aren’t as thick and light blocking as the old ones and I MUST have a dark sleeping area so today I sewed the old ones to the back of the new ones to act as a liner and that works very well. Hopefully that will also stop the fading because I don’t want to have to keep replacing them every four years.

He also needs to find out what will happen when BIL hits the age that his SSI and medical care is transferred into Social Security. The money will stay the same but BIL will be put on Medicare which is totally different than the medical insurance he enjoys now. I believe this will happen when BIL turns 65.

I don’t think it is possible at BIL’s age, but FCD should also look into seeing if BIL will be eligible for SSDS when FIL dies. Slightly better money, but then he will be back on his much better SSI sort of medical coverage. If BIL started receiving SSI after he was 22, don’t bother pursuing this.

Sacrilege!

Your cruise sounds fun, I’ve been thinking about taking one. They just seem so peopley.

AWESOME!!!

While you do need to return it, can you not renew things online to avoid the humongous fines? Our library recently raised the overdue fines to 15 cents a day per item. The outcry was so loud that they dropped the fines back to 10 cents a day and made it so you could renew all of your books at once online. I outcried about that because there were times I only wanted to renew one book at a time but my voice wasn’t loud or whiney enough.

Fresh sheets are one of the finer things in life.

Evening all. Swore I wrote a mid-day e-mail but there is no sign of it, so I’ll meander through the night. Swimmin’-n-Sauna were completed, soccer has been coached and dinner is quietly digesting. Got into the 70’s today and the same tomorrow, so soccer should go well. Probably have to referee my own games again, we are really short of refs this Fall.

red, what good is he going to do with a fight if he’s endangering the populace getting there?

shoe, been sleeping quieter lately, but I’m also great at uprooting my fitted sheets and mattress pad some nights.

nellie, Hope Amtrak got you there and back OK.

Butters, hope you enjoy the cruise. Not a big fan of Carnival but sounds like you have one heck of a nice room with some great bennies. When do you depart?

Ok, that’s all I got. Need to finish my Sudoku and come up with team lineups for tomorrow, so all y’all take care.
