Happy 4th, fellow Dopers! Whatcha doin’ today?
We have a family BBQ lunch. Also our twin nephew and niece turn 21 today! I’m making my usual 21st birthday food gift for them — Jell-O shots.
Whatcha got going today?

Absolutely nothin’. HUH! Say it again!
Even if my kids had decided to have a picnic or some such, it’s unlikely we would have gone, as road closures between here and where they live are miserable to deal with.
I know there are fireworks tonight, but with any luck we’ll sleep through them.
Sounds nice, actually. Enjoy!
We’re going to have some friends over and a bunch of barbecue for a few hours, then open it up to a larger dance party into the night. We usually have a great view over the city and various fireworks shows, most of them illegal, but it’s not looking like the fog is going to cooperate today. The dance party is resistance-themed. For no particular reason.
My mom’s neighborhood is throwing a big family-friendly gala. Everyone with bikes decorated them and they had a big parade, and a couple of the dads made their own ice cream truck with a Flintstones drive train. Toss in the usual grilled hot dogs, sprinklers, water-balloon toss, etc.
Actually, I made a shrimp salad and will be making (canned) baked beans and hotdogs. Just the two of us.
Zero plans.
The weather is unbearable: hot, exceptionally humid, and storms incoming. I just got home last night from several days up at my parents’ house, helping them out, so I’m exhausted, and my wife is getting over a bad cold.
We watched coverage of the tall ships and military flyovers in NYC this morning, but otherwise, I’m going to be doing laundry and napping in the air conditioning.
My wife has health issues and it’s too hot for her. So we’re hanging at home watching the World Cup.
I’m sorry, but an Edwin Starr reference is never “absolutely nothin’” ![]()
[Good God, Y’all!]
Wassat, you young whippersnapper? Speak up sonny!
I walked over to The Alameda to check out this year’s Rose White & Blue Parade. Always a fun event for the whole family featuring vintage cars and community groups showing their Independence Day Spirt. Link to photo album
Ran a 5k earlier today (27:39 if anyone was wondering) and otherwise just takin it easy at the beach with a couple beers. Here’s to 250 more!
Went to our small-town parade (click for all images):
“We”?
“we” can mean “me and these other guys”, doesn’t need to include everybody it’s addressed to.
Yes but it’s not readily apparent who @Cugel refers to.
Your reference is ambiguous. @Stratocaster, @kenobi_65, @duality72, and I all said “we”.
It was a bit cool here yesterday, but I had a real nice time with two three-year-old grandkids. (and their parents). My wife is out of town, unfortunately. But a real nice day. Leaving politics out of here, I’ll just say that I ignored the nation’s birthday.
Did nothing at all. America is on punishment right now.
Grilled, drank rum, played board games with family, shot off fireworks. You know. The usual stuff.
Pretty traditional plans. Went to see a parade in the early afternoon and then went back to watch a fireworks show at dusk.
