Mumia Abu-Jamal. Since I can’t boycott Ben Cohen himself, I figured I’d boycott his company.
Although now that you mentioned it, Ben and Jerry’s stance on the critical issue of ShibbOleth’s pants needs to be examined also. I am a huge supporter of your pants, or, to be more precise, I support you wearing pants ALL THE TIME. So, I’ll add your pants to the reasons for my boycott.
Ben and Jerry’s sold out? Wow, thats even more depressing.
Since I’ve lost out on one boycott, I need to take up another, so please, everybody join me in my new protest, ShibbOleth’s pants. Here’s some chats to get us going:
*What do we want!
Very, very nice indeed. Lucky enough to have a Haagen Daz concession at the local cinema. three flavours in one cone … mmmmn . Have you tried Strawberry Cheesecake?
I used to love Ben And Jerry’s much better, especially their Rainforest Chunk, but the new flavours have too much “extras” and not enough icecream for me. tarragon918 described the concept nicely - too busy.
I did like Chubby Hubby, though. But nowhere I shop carries, that one anymore
I’m normally not one for these fancy-schmancy ice creams, Sir Doris, so no I haven’t tried the strawberry cheesecake. The Bailey’s was just too scrummy looking to pass up.
Normally prefer to make my own, or get a nice vanilla and add my own ‘bits’ to it. But sometimes it is nice to get the B&J’s or Haagen Daz and splurge… give yourself a treat
Just wanted to make a little correction on the content of Chubby Hubby ice cream. The swirls in the vanilla malt ice cream are chocolate (fudge) and -peanut butter-, not caramel as I at first thought. The ice cream is very rich and very delicious still.
Sir Doris, I don’t know about stores in the UK, but where I found a large selection of Ben & Jerry’s locally (US) was a health food/natural food co-op. Which surprised me greatly! I think B&J are eco-friendly, maybe that’s why. And while the ice cream is very good, I wouldn’t really call it healthy. Well, maybe in very small doses it would be healthy…maybe.
Hmm. Used to live on Ben & Jerry’s in college - and I wonder why I had to lose 60+ pounds. Haven’t had any in a while. Did used to love Chubby Hubby, Mint Oreo, and New York Super Fudge Chunk.
Funny thing - I’m not sure that I want it anymore. I must be sick!
No I live in Colorado :o Springs and there is only one place where they sell ice cream and it is  not any good  anymore because they lost  the chopping block they used to mix the ingredients into ;j the ice cream and :dubious: have said they’re not going to replace it. :smack: Sigh, and I heard they were so good before it was broken and lost. :wally The few times I went there, they were just okay.
I forget the name of the place but they’re up the street from the Peak Theater on Pikes Peak downtown.
I’m with raisinbread. B&J’s best flavor was Vanilla Chocolate Chunk, just their rich, creamy vanilla with massive hunks of chocolate. Heaven. The local scoop shop occasionally has it on the menu when I stop by, and I’ll grab up two or three pints for the long term. Though it’s been a year since the last time they had it. Uh oh.
The closest to a replacement is offered by Godiva. They have two ice creams with good-sized chocolate hearts mixed in. The vanilla version, though, has hearts with caramel centers, and the version with solid hearts uses chocolate ice cream. The ideal ice cream, for me, is midway between: vanilla with solid chocolate bits.
In the absence of my favorite, I usually get Peanut Butter Cup more often than the several others I also enjoy.
A) I don’t buy Ben and Jerry’s any more, cause of the causes they support: frankly I’d get a better return on my money if I just shipped it to Fidel Castro (and even if the hippies aren’t in charge any more, they’re still giving money away to causes I despise.* )
B) Even before I knew this, I rarely bought Ben & Jerry’s because their ice cream was gross. The glop they put in the ice-cream was great, of course, but the ice cream itself? Kinda pasty and a trifle grainy.
My favorite Ice Cream is a brand called The Dreamery: it’s cheaper than Ben and Jerry’s ('cause .30c on the dollar isn’t being shipped to North Korea or whatever idiot cause they’re supporting) and the ice cream itself? Smooth, creamy, rich with a wonderful mouth-feel and a tremendously good, strong flavor. They had one called [url="http://www.dreyers-dreamery.com/brand/dreamery/flavor.asp?b=129&f=1828"Dulce De Leche that’s a sort of caramel flavored ice-cream. Refreshing, sweet…I had to stop buying it 'cause I could go through a pint in about a half hour.
All that said, when I was buying Ben & Jerry’s, I usually bought Cherry Garcia.

*Yes there are some good causes there too. I don’t care. I don’t wanna pay more for ice cream so these guys can get a tax write-off and fund causes I don’t agree with.
What are their :o causes anyway? Got a comprehensive list? The  Mumia  stuff  bugs the ;j fuck :smack: out :dubious: of me but :o if they’re doing more liberal  bullshit  I’ll  most likely ;j stop :smack: buying :dubious: their product altogether. :wally
i’ll stop the smiley stuff, just one of the previous posts inspired me to go off the deep end
Here’s a link to the Ben & Jerry’s website. If you want to know what they fund, and don’t fund, do a little bit of digging. Sections of particular interest are the Ben & Jerry’s foundation and “We Care About…” sections. It seems that they have a matching program for “community grassroots actions”. So there could be any number of “hippie” programs that could get included there.
