Heroes 10/29/07 - "The Line" (SPOILERS)

Did I even use any nicknames this week? Oh, right, “Colleen O’Lassy” in the OP. Sorry, I can’t remember her name.

Although was sorely tempted to build on the “Wonder Twins” theme by calling Alejandro AleZANdro…

Yes, the comments are deliberately posted, just like everybody else’s. I liked the show better last season, and I’ll keep watching, hoping it gets better and if it doesn’t soon, I’ll stop watching. I enjoy reading reactions to my opinions whether they are from people who agree or disagree. That’s what a dialogue is all about.

The comment about betting when “IYDLIDWI” will occur was my little joke about something that always happens in these threads when somebody’s feeling are hurt because somebody else said something bad about their wittle show.

Looks like the Heroes:Origins series may have been cancelled, due to falling ratings for this season.

I dont’ mind the nicknam, “Wonder Twins,” though my personal nickname for the pair is “Rodrigo y Gabriela.” Doesn’t roll of the tongue, by any means, but I can’t see them without thinking of the musicians. In fact, I want the R&G song, Tamacun, to play over ever scene of their’s.

Moderator comments:
randwill: if you are saying that you come here to post deliberately inflammatory remarks, intentionally trying to provoke negative reactions, then I remind you of the Registration Agreement (the bolding is mine):

In short, you are now being told to refrain from deliberately pissing on threads. If you don’t like a show, henceforth, you can say so in a manner that is more civil and not deliberately inflammatory.

Eh, at least it’s clear who you meant. I tease because I can’t ever remember the name of the coma-moppet that Matt and Mohinder are ambiguously gay parenting. Maybe if she was more relevant to the story.

Matt, Mohinder, and Molly,
Doesn’t that just make you jolly?

I like the last two episodes a lot more than the first few. It’s nice how the characters are turning to the dark (or at least gray) side. Kensei sells out his two companions out of jealousy. Claire and West use their powers for personal kicks and gain. Mr. Bennett kills a man in cold blood. Maja kills a shitload of people on purpose!

I do not intend my comments to be inflammatory. The exchange begins with my observation that the writing on this show compares, unfavorably to great literature. This, in response to a post detailing a particularly poorly thought out sequence in the episode. I was agreeing with this post and was not trying to provoke negative reactions.

Re-reading my post, I believe one could infer from my use of “lowest common denominator” that I am referring to Dopers who watch the show and post here about it. That was not my intention. It was my reference to the notion, held by television networks that, in order for a program to be successful, it must appeal to the widest possible range of people.

Haha, yes.

Maybe if we got muscle-memory girl a guitar (or two?) and a CD …

Great. Now I’ll have the acoustic version of Stairway to Heaven playing in my head whenever the Wonder Twins are on.

Yes, I see other posters being critical. I am critical at times also of the show, and it’s by no means “my wittle show.” I was merely saying that you specifically do it so much in these threads that I have come to associate your name with this behavior. Simply pointing it out. If you don’t care that you’re turning into a sort of one-trick pony about this, more power to you.

I thought this was far and away the best episode of the season, so far. Although Hiro’s storyline is still pretty weak. My big hope is that “white beard” turns out to be someone interesting… perhaps, Lindermann? He had a white beard.

Things I liked:
-I really liked Claire’s storyline. For one thing, bitchy head cheerleaders never get old. More importantly, though, one of the great potentials for this show is showing people with powers just having them and using them in neat random ways. Sure, she and West are superpowered. But they’re also teenagers. Why wouldn’t they occasionally pull pranks just because they could?

-On the same “a totally different thing to do with an established power” bent, the Haitian using the threat of his power for purposes of torture was AWESOME

-Evil rat bastard Sylar is back, baby!

-Best of all, though, was the scene with Bob. I’m going to take it solely at face value. The company WAS started by people who wanted to do good. And they HAVE compromised and done bad things. And Bob, being just a decent human being put in a tough spot, HAS done things he regrets, but DID have a change of heart. This season may be The Company vs. Adam Monroe vs. Noah, but it’s not clear which side we should be cheering for. A company made up of human beings is MUCH more interesting than yet another Large Faceless Evil Omnipotent Organization. (One of my few criticisms of Buffy, for instance, was how utterly unredeemed the Watcher’s Council always was. Weak sauce there, Joss.)

(And it now seems quite likely that Adam Monroe is the one going around killing off the 13 old ones, or whoever they are.)

Let me note for the record that despite my criticisms above, I am still watching and enjoying the show, and the past few episodes have been very entertaining, despite their flaws.

I’m getting behind this season. Which one’s Bob and which one’s Adam Monroe? Maybe we should go back to somewhat descriptive nicknames.

I’m not sure why, but I really like Kensei and kinda hope he’s either still around or maybe Hiro brings him back to the future at some point. Could Hiro do that? We know Kensei has to do some legend-making stuff, but do the stories end with him having ten kids and dying an old man, or does he just disappear after birthing some legends?

It’s interesting while Kensei is doing all this hero stuff, everyone knows he’s European. Why didn’t that make it into the legends?

The new adds are saying that the story arc will unfold over the next five weeks. Hopefully we’ll get a stong mid-season ‘finale’.

Bob is Mr. Male-Pattern Baldness who’s currently running the Company and turns objects into gold.

AFAIK, we haven’t seen Adam Monroe yet, other than his note in Montreal to Peter, and his name on the file that Bob was carrying and let Mohinder catch a glance at.

Don’t bother, Morbo. This is the same guy that pissed all over every single Lost thread too. It’s better to just learn to ignore him.

I, for one, am enjoying this season so far. I have a feeling that there’s more to West than meets the eye, and I like the theory that Kensei is in fact Papa Petrelli.

–FCOD

Well, at some point, he has to rip his own heart out and give it to a dragon…

Was that part of the legend?

Well, I suppose he could, couldn’t he? It shouldn’t kill him. But where are they going to find a dragon?

Yes it was part of the legend.

He was about to die but the dragon was moved by his sacrifice and put the heart back into Kensei.

I highly doubt Papa Petrelli is Kensei. The comics suggest he is not but since some people discard the comics, even though they are official canon, you can take that how you want.
