Perhaps it’s to point out that Hiro isn’t just a “poor little office worker.” He’s had to finance this jaunt somehow.
I also think it was important that Hiro turned down a great job where he would have made a lot of money and be set for life so that he could take the hero route.
I also wonder if maybe his sister or father has powers.
I thought Claude’s mentioning of having his power for 15 years and then Mr. B’s mention of an “old friend” was trying to set us up to think Claude was the daddy. I think they may have been trying to steer us away from the obvious candidate … the candidate!
Best line of the episode: Hiro’s response when Ando says of Hiro’s sister “I think she’s starting to like me.”
Nathan could just as easily have been married to Claire’s real mom and divorced her later. The older of Nathan’s boys right now looks around ten, which leaves plenty of time for divorce and remarriage.
Agreed with other posters who point out that Nathan’s running the sloppiest campaign I’ve ever seen. It almost screams for him to do something seriously heroic the day or so before the election, and people vote for him because of it. I’m not sure whether I’d like that or not, given that he’s been such an ass for the whole show to this point.
And now Claire knows that the Haitian has mind-whammied her mom again, but she doesn’t know why. (I’m going straight to hell for this, but when AED said something about making her forget again, I looked at the hubby and said, “Kay, have you ever flashy-thingied me?”)
Why they let Niki go after she obviously killed the psychiatrist is beyond me. My suspension-of-belief-o-meter has redlined so many times around that storyline that I’m surprised it hasn’t completely disintegrated under the strain. If this twist (Niki in the mirror) had come three or four weeks ago, I might care. But right now… /shrug.
That’s a good thought, nice extrapolation from Otto’s suggestion of misdirection.
It would also keep the fanficcers who have been Peter/Claire shipping happy. Not that Kring & Co. care.
I didn’t think that she killed the psychiatrist. I thought I saw the shrink moving and moaning a bit. But it is still a huge stretch. I’m wondering if Linderman weill turn out to have some sort of non-Voice persuasive powers. Or perhaps he has money-multiplying powers, to have the sort of wealth required to buy off an entire office of DAs.
Nathan likes him some hot, dangerous blondes…
Nah. Mini-skirt and go-go boots.
I just think the line between the two is blurring and the actress is making the switch a little more seamless than before.
Same time frame as Claire’s mom’s death… maybe he was supposed to have died in the fire, too.
I’m still trying to figure out if the fire was accidental, set on purpose by Claire’s mom, or arson by somebody else, and whether or not Claire’s being in the fire was accidental.
Riiight. “She was cleaning the gun and didn’t know it was loaded. Nine times.”
I kept forgetting to mention this. I don’t recall any mention of how long Nathan and his wife have been together but his kids do look a lot younger than Claire. He didn’t necessarily cheat on his wife (before) if he is Claire’s dad, they may not have even been together then. It’s funny though how Nathan seems to go for blondes for rolls in the hay but married the brunette. Maybe he thought she’d look better as a political wife?
I wasn’t sure if she killed the psychiatrist, I thought she was still twitching a little when they showed her. Maybe Niki/Jessica just tasered the hell out of her? I have to agree with another comment though that why weren’t people right outside who could have come in before it got to that point? Well, now we know that Nik/Jes is stronger than an elephant.
Did anyone else hear Sylar do the spooky Eden-voice thing just before AED busted in? Did he manage to steal her powers despite her blowing her brains out?
I’m glad Sylar is finally starting to earn his badass reputation. He was really kinda falling flat for me ever since they captured him.
I thought those where tazer marks on her back, not bullet holes. The psychiatrist mentioned using the tazer on her if she got out of line, i think Jessica only tortured her with it.
Yeah, I heard the Voice. Interesting.
I don’t know, her line didn’t seem all that weird to me: her father owns the building, so it’s possible that she knows that none of the tenants has ever had permission for a pigeon coop.
I caught the voice thing and I wasn’t sure if he was doing Eden’s voice thing or something else because that was much creepier than Eden. I also thought I noticed a clicking noise when he moved, did he perhaps absorb the cockroaches “powers” as some people had speculated he would do?
Good episode, I’m glad to see them making movement forward and the stories are beginning to converge.
I enjoyed seeing Hiro so deftly play his sister’s emotions and making her come out and note that she should be the one running the business. Well played my good sir.

so, I thought the premise (or a key premise anyway) of the series was that all of the folks with powers had “just started” to find out about them… within 6 months or so…
is this ‘new information’ about some having had powers 15 (or more?) years ago (and ongoing, apparently) just because the show will need more stories to tell?
or am I completely mis-remembering that premise?
As for the Fire… I’m willing to bet that Claire’s mom caused it (not knowing how to control, etc) by accident… the resulting ‘death’ of Claire (and mom according to the news report Claire read) would be more than enough to allow Nathan to not look back… the bigger question is still how the mom had his number, etc…
As for the painter… I called it early on, and the writers just alluded to it… he doesn’t just ‘paint’ the future… he “causes/creates” the future as well…
I liked that Peter healed himself…
My understanding is that people had powers but our main characters are just learning of theirs. Consider the prof. father who was studying them and trying to follow their genes back, he was doing it since his daughter died, so it has been at least a decade from what I recall…

Was I the only one who thought…
…that Claire’s mom seemed rather in a panic when she called Nathan, as though perhaps she’d hoped that Claire was dead? Did she cause the fire on purpose? I can’t imagine why, but her phone call certainly sounded to me to have an air of “Oh crap, guess who just found me”, as opposed to “Our baby girl is alive!!”
(spoilered as it is blatant speculation)
He is enough of a public figure so that he is easy to find but not so important that his secretary would give a thorough screening to a phone caller that said she was an old friend.
OK, I can buy into the oddity of Claire’s mom being able to make a direct call to a senatorial candidate, but I dont’ agree with the “running his campaign like crap” comments from above. Just because they don’t show something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I’m content thinking that he busy working away on his campaign all the while, with a few brief interruptions to deal with brother issues.
I like that they didn’t show how AED got out of jail. I’m thinking we’ll find he has a superpower yet (which of course may or may not have anything to do with how he got out of lock up).
It looks like from the previews that Niki may be throwing mind-reader-cop (sorry, I don’t remember what nickname he was given) out a window? I like it that she appears to be one person now who will act sweet when required, but ‘strong as an elephant’ too. Yes those were taser marks on the psych’s back. I think she was still alive.
I think it would be a good story arc to find that Hiro’s dad and sis both have some type of power.
Further proof that us guys are mostly clueless when it comes to the opposite sex “I think she’s starting to like me”. Heh funny stuff.
