Regarding the impact of Miley’s statements, is this getting mentioned anywhere other than the SDMB?
I read this Thread when it was opened, then this morning mentioned it off-handedly to a fourteen year old girl and a twelve year old girl who are absolutely plugged in to pop culture and neither one of them had heard anything about it.
No kidding Chronos. Not-Joe the not-a-plumber is at about 20 minutes past his 15 minutes, and his only fans are wingnuts, whereas Miley has had a great career already and looks to have a long, productive career in the future, with fans who will take her messages of tolerance to heart.
bienville, I’m kind of curious too. I’m about as far from plugged in to popular culture as you can get, so I was wondering if this had become a bigger deal.

Thanks Justin_Bailey. Maybe the bigots realized that if they made a bigger stink it would get Miley’s remarks even more publicity. Damn, I hate it when they wise up. I love public, noisy boycotts of good things that need the publicity.
I also thought it was…I don’t have the correct word (bizarre, funny, strange?)…that he thought a white being called a “honky” was much worse than a gay being called a queer (by a good old boy such as himself, rather than from within their own community).

You were the Go To guy of the moment for naming things (you said “Any time”) so I just threw out some nonsense question, but when you came back with “Me?” I thought that you were joking that you were that thing where you, you know, do that thing and it backfires and then you have to do this other thing. That was funny. But my question wasn’t serious, and you had no idea what my part of the joke was, so I was laughing at something you didn’t intend and, and…so it all totally falls apart in the re-telling.
