Hey LA Dopers, when are we gonna play again?

After the first of the year, count me in - I’ll be living in San Diego!

Esprix

Well, Esprix, then I guess you’re in charge of planning the 2001 DopeFest in San Diego, aren’t you?

I’ll have to include the Dopers in my “welcome to the west coast” party.

Esprix

I can give somebody a lift if they’re coming from the Venice direction. If you all will have me, of course.

Okay, it’s official!

I’m saying…7pm-ish?
Somewhere in Old Town Pasadena

Now we have the when, a large assortment of whoseses, and a vague idea of the where.

I have to say I’m partial to the Cheesecake Factory (are y’all familiar with it?), and this little Italian cafe with a nice back porch dining area called “Market City Cafe.” And what is Gordon Biersch? I haven’t heard of that place, but maybe I’ve passed it a few times. Where is it? What kind of food do they serve? What’s the price range? …n’ stuff. (Some people have recommended it)

We have quite a list of people interested in coming…wowzers! This will be cooooool, and stuff. Now, I do have this question–there are a few who will be late to the dinner part of the shindig. Shall we meet up somewhere else later on in the night (perhaps for dessert and/or coffee?), or shall we just hang out indefinitely like we did last time at Callender’s?

New interested parties:
Strainger
PurpleCrackWhore
Domina
LittleStar
Rick

I’d just like to say that makes a total of 23 interested parties. Um…can we pull that off??? “Hi, Such-and-Such restaurant? We’d like to reserve your entire east wing…”

But cool! Looking forward to it, folks!

D’oh!! Friday?? Crap, I should’ve paid more attention to the day of the week. In general, I can’t make any Friday gatherings because I’d have to leave work early in order to make it in time (I have a vacation deficit at work right now, BTW). Do let me know when y’all have a Saturday gathering (please have a Saturday gathering some time); I’d really like to meet y’all!

Gosh. I am one of those who can’t do any Friday nites. If y’all have any on Saturday nites or a Sunday, count me in. Maybe next time. Y’all have fun.

If you have to leave early on a Friday to make it, induce vomiting in front of your boss. S/He’ll send you home. (Just don’t let him/her see you inducing vomiting. Only the “work in progress”.)

Okay…Friday 13th I can attend if I can find a ride. Maybe Tuerca8 will be able to drive me and LittleStar (Which would add another person to the list). If I can’t find a ride, I won’t be able to attend.

Friday, eh? I think I can make it. First I’ll have to pry some money out of the parents.

Can anyone give me directions on how to get there and an idea of how much $$$ dinner will cost? I’ll be staying in Azusa with my big bro.

Present for pricciar?
Present for pricciar?

How exciting. I love presents. I encourage everyone to bring presents for pricciar. It will make the world a smiley place.

Another reason to get there on time.

I like the desert place idea, Ruffy. Especially since, many restaruants might frown on us taking up too much space for too long, specially on a Friday night.

Who says the restaurant has to know it’s an organized gathering? How do they know it’s not just one huge fortunate accident?

Assuming you’re just getting food and a fairly mundane drink (read: something that doesn’t have both alcohol AND ice cream in it), it’ll probably run close to $20 with tax and tip. (Note: Most of their entrees provide enough food for at least two meals.) I’m partial to the herb roasted chicken, myself.

Monster: Trust me, you want it to be one big party, otherwise the odds of everybody sitting together are pretty slim. A note of optimism, however: last week, my company went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, and they accommodated all 38 of us. Two long tables, so not the absolute best for conversation, but better than nothing.

So when’s the deadline to RSVP on this shindig?

Count me in, but I’ll be a late comer… if at all possible, it would be a good thing if y’all stuck around in once place until I showed up (then we can go for dessert)

You may have not seen Gordon Biersch because it’s not directly on Colorado. It’s tucked behind where Crate & Barrel is–there is a whole little square with a movie theatre, a fancy-schmancy Italian restaurant called Il Fornaio, and some other stuff. Gordon Biersch is basically a micro-brewery, and they serve the kind of food that usually goes well with beer. I don’t know how many of the group are drinkers and/or are under 21, so it may not be the best choice (but if anyone’s up for late-night pints of ale, I’ll join them).

I’m thinking that Cheesecake Factory would probably be one of the better choices, considering we do have a good sized group there, and they have the dining room size to handle a table of twenty-or-so rowdy dopers. With a party that size, it would behoove us to call ahead and attempt a reservation, instead of just dropping in–gives them time to prepare, else we may have to wait over an hour for a table.

Can’t wait to see all of you!

Where are you talking about? Last time I checked, no location had been decided.

Okay folks…here are the suggestions, take your pick. Next step is to vote on WHERE:

The Cheesecake Factory
(Might be crowded on a Friday night, and I’m not sure they take reservations. Of course, for a party of 20+, they make take exceptions.)

Gordon Biersch
(May be difficult for the under-21 Dopers out there, and I have been told it’s loud. But heck, so are we.)

Market City Cafe
(A nice little Italian place with a pleasant outdoor dining area. But, I’m not sure they can accommodate our large party.)

Manny’s Pizza
{More than a pizza joint; it’s just a nice Italian restaurant. But it is very small and I question whether they could handle the size of our group.)

To vote, either reply to this thread OR email me at LRConaway@aol.com. Vote by Friday, October 6th, when the final decision will be made.

As far as “RSVPs,” please email me. This is the most assured way to let me know, as I am home to check the board only very early in the morning and later in the evening. RSVP by Sunday, October 8th if at all possible; I’ll be in Pasadena that day and will just drop by the selected restaurant and see about reservations, etc.

As far as latecomers: I really think we should choose a second place for dessert. We are a very large, and very loud party, and after about three hours we’ll be bordering on annoying (if not past it). In consideration of the staff of whatever chosen restaurant, we should free up their tables on such a busy night (and three hours is a generous amount of time). Heck, we could go to Gordon’s for a meal, and then the Cheesecake Factory for dessert. Or, there’s a killer coffee joint called The Equator that I frequent.

Thoughts?

Okay, that’s it for now. Time to go squish learning into the minds of reluctant 10-year-olds…

I’m under 21–but over 18. Is that really gonna be a problem? I don’t drink, anyways…not when I drive, anyway.

Pasadena’s a good 60 miles or so from where I am right now–I wanna know how late these things usually run. I’m used to staying out at all hours of the night–but driving all the way back home while fighting off sleep probably isn’t the safest thing ta do. Whether or not I show is probably tentative pending when the consensus plans on meeting!

Anyways–I hope I do get ta see some of you!

-Ashley

We also have to decide on a time to meet…we don’t want to forget that little factor.

Let’s see how fast I can drive the 110 drunk! Heheh, just kidding. OOC, Ashtar, is that a Simpsons quote in your sig, or is it from something else?

Actually–it’s supposed to be from the movie “A Christmas Story”, but I think I butchered it some. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it.

Ah, too bad. I could imagine that conversation between Homer and Lisa. Oh well…
