Hey LA Dopers, when are we gonna play again?

I have to put a big vote out for Manny’s. I mean, “Manny” isn’t that more than a perfect name for a punch of us to meet at? I eat pizza manny manny times and I always like it.

Anyway, I like trying out new pizza places, I do it as often as I can, going to one more will be a very good thing indeed. So I vote for the pizza place with my hands feet and ummm eyebrows.

I am looking forward to this, it will be good to see everyone again, and to meet everyone I haven’t met.
pat

Manny’s is my vote (great name too!)

FWIW, I think pizza’s cool because a) it’s almost destined to be cheaper than Cheesecake Factory and b) everybody has their own “specialty” combination of toppings and it’d be cool to try other people’s. (Or I could be wrong, and they’ll just be half a dozen pepperoni and mushrooms.)

Mushrooms?! Ewww! Hell’s vegetation, they are!

They aren’t -even- vegetables! They’re funguses! Yer gonna eat something that’s related to Athlete’s Foot?

Cheesecake Factory will be impossible, I’m afraid. They don’t take reservations (I haven’t checked about groups), and it’s always packed all day and night on weekends. We’d be left standing for hours on the sidewalk, waiting to get in.

Gordon Biersch is nice, but fairly pricy.

Ruby’s Diner is good about groups, and has a wide variety of food, and really good music. A little low-scale, though.

Crocodile Cafe is excellent, and less expensive, and gets my vote.

I like the idea of Manny’s. It may be small, but hey, if other customers don’t like us around, they’ll leave…which means more space for us.

Pizza’n beer sounds great, but I can make it ONLY if the bus strike is settled by Thursday. Wish me luck.

I live in Los Angeles, would love to come! Are all dopers invited?

I’m sorry. (I live in Los Hideous too, but I’m trying to move! :D)

Of course! Even those who don’t live in the area, if they don’t mind travelling a bit!

See ya there.

Yeah folks, it looks like Cheesecake Factory is impractical–at least for the dinner portion. Manny’s I’m seriously doubting as well, but I’ll give 'em a try.

What about Moose McGillicutty’s? (Or however the hell it’s spelled.) Isn’t it a bit better suited for this kind (and size) of crowd?

Time was, sure, let’s make it a solid 7:00pm.

And you know what? I’m going to ask for a little planning help. This week blurred by very quickly, and I have two meetings and a doctor appointment next week to finagle around. Anyone from the Pasadena area care to lend a hand in the planning? Mainly I just need help scouting out places.

Looking forward to it folks!

I just have on request…please no FFF vs. SDMB stuff, okay? Lately there’s been a little bad blood happening, and one thing guaranteed to ruin a good time is to rehash some of the unpleasantries. I like both boards, as do many others, and it’s a little off-putting to hear.

Okay? Okay! Here’s to a grand time!

Ruffian: I have all the time in the world next week. Let me know what you need done. You still have my e-mail, eh?

Okay, here’s the official deal:
PasaDopeFest
Friday, October 13, 2000
7:00pm

BUCA di BEPPO
80 West Green St.
Pasadena, CA
Dial (626) 792-PAPA http://www.bucadibeppo.com/
An Italian (family-style) Restaurant

This location is just off Colorado Boulevard. Take Delancie to Green (I’m pretty sure, that is), and you’re there! As I suck at giving directions, your best bet is MapQuest.com.

Thank you UrsaMajor for reminding me about this place. It is truly designed for large parties, and large amounts of eating. They had no problem making a reservation for 20 of us (I have not received that many RSVPs, but we shall see. An up-to-date list of confirmed participants will be posted here later on this evening.)

Buca works this way: Order a few dishes (they come in ENORMOUS portions), and then pass them around and share. It’s like Thanksgiving, the Italian way. We will be walking distance (in fact, just a few feet) from all the fun of Old Town Pasadena’s Colorado strip (of Rose Parade fame). Prices: Be prepared for an average of $15/plate. Might be a little more, might be a little less, depending on what dish is ordered and how we break it up.

One thing to prepare for: Parking. Parking is a serious bitch in this city; my recommendation is to bring $5-10 and park in either one of the nearby parking complexes or lots.

Our party will be under the name–of course–Cecil Adams. I’ll aim to be there first (with DeathLlama)–look for long dark hair, red and black floral lycra top, black pants, and black boots. That’s me, not him, btw. DL has dark spikey hair, fair skin, and a stripey thing going from lower lip to chin (VanDyke is the technical term). If I’m feeling creative, I may even put place settings (not that it matters where you sit–it’s more like a name tag/point of reference thingy).

PLEASE RSVP WITH ME IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. It would suck if I reserved for 20 people, and 30 show up–or 10. Email me at LRConaway@aol.com.

Dessert: Buca will be better prepared for us than Cheesecake Factory, so I don’t know if it’s necessary for us to leave after three hours. Latecomers: Email me. I’ll take it from there.

Whoo hoo! Let’s par-tay!

Confirmed as of 10/8/00 3:28pm PST:

Just so there isn’t any confusion, the street is Delancey. When driving there, be aware that Green Street is a one-way street (going east). There is a parking structure on Delancey no more than 50 yards away from Buca, so that may be your best bet.

A good choice, Ruffian–I had completely forgotten about this place.

Can’t wait to meet everyone!

See! That’s what I thought…DeathLlama and I were just there this afternoon, and I remembered seeing Delancey. But, when I looked up the address on the Net, Green Street is what they listed. Eh, whatever; you can take Delancey to get to Buca, and that’s what matters.

BTW, add Highlander to the list to make 14.

There are 10 other names on my “interested parties” list–this could make for one frickin’ large DopeFest.

“R.S.V.P.”?

Okay, I’m “R”-ing! Oui!

Uh-oh. I have a feeling that I’ll be needing to increase the reservation’s party size. Because…I still haven’t heard yay or nay from:

jab1
phouka
Ashtar
Baglady
yosemitebabe
domina
KKbatousai
chief

…so that makes us potentially a party of 26, plus any significant others that come along (and of course are welcome to come).

Meanwhile–hey, DRY, Shayna, Arnold Winkelreid–y’all coming or what? Haven’t heard hide nor hair from any of you!

Bump…

I’m still not too certain yet. If nothing else, I’ll come by for a pre-dinner cocktail. I am waiting for vital information before I can confirm dinner!
