Hi Ho, Hi Ho, an Off To Work MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! I’m back from my travels, we had a fantastic time visiting across the Pond but it is nice to be back home in my own bed with the mogs to keep me company.

Sorry to hear about the car ding, Nuts - that sort of thing is usually not worth bothering the insurance for if you can get a cheap fix elsewhere. I came home to find that the car was still where I left it, the tyres weren’t flat and the engine wasn’t dead. That’s a win all round as far as I’m concerned.

Metalmouse, glad to hear the trip was fun! We will be in Washington DC for 3-4 days in August - do you have any “must see” things that should be on our list? Museums are always good to know about and anything else we really should not miss while we’re there. We also have a few days in Boston to start with, and it looks like we won’t be going anywhere else in between the two cities.

I is tired, back at irk today with a lot of things to catch up with. The co-irkers haven’t completely ruined all my good work but they’ve had a fair crack at it. I have a few things to put right and some mysteries to solve but I think it’s a lot better than it could have been.

I’m still a bit jet-lagged so I was falling asleep on the sofa around 8pm yesterday, woke up at 1.30am and have been pretty much wide awake ever since…but I’m fading now and I will need a strong cup of tea to perk me up again.

At irk, staring at a bunch of stuff that I don’t feel like doing. Miss A. and I had our show debut Saturday and I didn’t puke, shake, have to go the bathroom a jillion times or any other nervousness. She was totally chill and actually took a doze in the warmup. Cross this off my list of things to do in my lifetime. I had an adrenaline high until this morning. That horse is so f****** good… Took kitteh last night to the vet for a nail trim and that made me sweat more than riding! Ursala promptly went under the bed when we got home but came out later for kibble and all was forgiven.

You mean apart from the Mumpers who live in this general area???

:frowning:

I’ll do my best Swampy impersonation & give you the local forecast. This morning it was snowing pink (with occasional red &/or yellow)…& accumulating .
High of 50°, winds into the 30’s (which is why the trees were depetaling so much pink, & up to 1" of rain on tap for the rest of today.
In the Roll Call report, all the idjit drivers were out today, I almost became a hood ornament & a trunk ornament in separate incidents.
I was out on the path (wider & set further back than a traditional sidewalk) when the first car stops to let a woman & her labradog cross the street. The second car hadta stand on their brakes a bit. The third car wasn’t paying attention at all; I hear her locking 'em up, stop, turn, & then had to jump back as she decided to not rearend the car in front of her by driving to the right. She ended up next to the car that was previously in front of her & ¾ of the way onto the path where I would have been if I didn’t stop & jump back. My headphones were in my pocket in case I wanted to wear em. Glad I didn’t!

blurf Just finished one building. Swept and mopped 2000 SF. I shant be able to move tomorrow. Still have to clean in my regular building including the little gym. I did permission to close it down early so we don’t have to irk around sweaty peeps.

I have to be at a conference room at 0800 to answer questions of the accreditation team and then they will come to my building to take a look around and look at actual documentation for what I and the director answered in the survey prior to their arrival. i have requested and received permission to be off on Firday. So, if i can make it til then Long Weekend.

If raising sales by $200K in one year is not good enough f&(* them.

Butters it sounds like you have it all well in hand (and will have earned your day off)!

Bowser you have to get rabies certificates from the post office? That’s a bit different from here. Any idea why they do it that way?

Hi Wabbit! waves

Welcome home Metal Mouse!

I’m made it CA last night and am about to head off for various needl-y things. Neat.

Had one of those weird nights where I kept dreaming I was awake, only I wasn’t. Very strange.

Boo, it really depends on what you want to see. If you’re interested in Art, there are 2-3 Museums in the Mall area that can capture your attention for a day or more. If you like aircraft/space, the National Air and Space Museum is well worth your time. You need to see the Lincoln Memorial/Vietnam Vets memorial. I would also recommend the Holocaust Museum, but please note: it will depress you for the rest of that day and give you the (probably unrequited) wish to meet up with a Holocaust Denier and punch them in the face. But still worth the visit. If you want to see Pandas, the National Zoo has 3 of them on display (they’ll probably be inside, hot weather is not the best time to catch them outside).

As for outside the district (if you have a car; inside the district it really not needed), there are various American Civil War sites, Mount Vernon (home of George Washington) and Baltimore (and the National Acquarium) less than an hour’s drive.

If I think of any more (besides meeting up with FCM) I’ll add them.

I don’t know if it will be- but the other driver said she was going to report it to her insurance (why, I dunno- I was stationary, she went into the back of me, tat’s normally an open and shut ‘her fault’ and the damage to hers looked minor in the extreme) so I figured I kind of had to. Plus with the whole ‘policy expiring in a matter of hours’ issue, I couldn’t really leave it until I got an estimate to fix it to decide.

I’m crossing all available digits for irk this week again- the boss is maaaybe slightly calming down (at least for now), but the chef spent last night in hospital again. He popped in on the way home, looking really ill. Supposedly he’s working tomorrow, and I’m off, but I can’t really plan anything, in case. It’s no-one’s fault, nuttin’ anyone can do, it just sucks all round.

Many things in Israel are paid for at the post office. I pay for the rabies certificate there, and then bring the receipt to the vet. I think it’s because the cost of the shot is government subsidized, so the payment goes through the post office. The post office here is used for many unusual things; for example, if you lose or break your cable or satellite remote, you don’t call the company - you get a new one at the post office. There are buckets of various remotes behind the counter. There is also a post office bank, and payments to convert drivers licenses are done at the post office. It’s sometimes a pain in the ass, because I can go to buy some stamps and get stuck behind people doing their banking and paying bills.

Boo, try parking your car in a suburb and using the Metro. Traffic in DC is awful. The subway gets you almost anywhere you need to get inside DC and northern VA. I don’t know if the Pentagon still gives tours, but if a tour is available and that floats your boat, try and do it. I find the place fascinating.

baker, I have done money laundering.

I went to the dentist today. It looks like I underestimated my part of the crown by $350. They’ve gone up a little since my last one.

I’ve got maters! I now have one each of cherry and Roma tomatoes. I can’t wait until they’re ripe.

It looks like I may be getting a pup in July or August. And by pup, I mean puppy, not an adult as originally planned. Sis got an accidental puppy born yesterday. One of her recent adoptees came into season the week before her only intact male was due to be snipped (he is now). I will be receiving his newborn pics this evening, but she said that he is cinnamon colored with brown nose leather. If he looks like the father, he’ll be a beautiful dog. The mother is a chihuahua / Jack Russell mix and the dad a chihuahua, so he won’t be very big. I’m not sure I’m ready for a puppy. :stuck_out_tongue:

The MMP is very quiet, which makes me worried about certain folks…
Moving on, guess what I just learned. Go on, guess!

You’ll never guess. I’ll tell you. My grandmother and Ella Fitzgerald had the same birthday. They would both be 100 today, if they were still with us. I wish they were, but for some reason it is making me smile to think of my grandma and Ella.

Today (still the 25th) is my best friend in high school’s bd. I have no idea why I remember that and I remember her old home phone number too. It’s also grandnephew #2 birthday.

It has been a horrible day.
I thought the dog was doing better and he isn’t. He had a seizure this morning, and I was just thinking yesterday that it has been a long time since he has had one. I really thought he was going to die right there, but he came out of it, ate some food, got up and was fine. Now tonight he got up and came over to me and collapsed. We were getting ready to pick him up and go to the emergency vet and he got up on his own, went out to the kitchen to eat, went outside, and now is sleeping.
I left him in the kitchen after a bit because he will just stand there as long as I’m in there. I came in the living room and heard a crash, thought it was the dog, but it was the hose to the washer. I had some clothes soaking in the washer and had unhooked the hose and it fell out of the sink getting water everywhere.

So here I am at almost midnight, with a bunch of wet towels on the floor and too tired to think straight.

Missed the top of the page – and second slot while I typed this!!!

While I was at work the Old Wench registered me for
DIGGERLAND
XL!!!

I knew there was a reason I married her!

Oh Sari, I am so sorry about your dog and the stoopid washer. Some days are the pitz. {{{Hugs}}}

Ruble I hear tell there’s more than one reason, but good for her. Pics of the mayhem? blinks bambi eyes

I was sick at work all day yesterday, and gotta do a double today.

Maybe… maybe we’ll see some sun today. Maybe. It was drizzly as I drove in. I know we need rain, but doggone, can’t it be spaced out with sunshine in between?

Other than that, just another day in paradise.

A friend from high school might be stopping by this weekend. She lives in Baltimore, but she may be going to a funeral home visitation in Montrose VA, and her route will be really close to us. So we shall see - as of last night, she hadn’t decided yet.

And so it goes… Happy Wednesday!

It’s Wednesday

I’m up too early but I took the day off work so I can sleep if I need to.
I got up to take care of the dog so Sah-son can sleep. He didn’t take his test yesterday so we are going today. Unfortunately this test has only a 3 day window so there is not a lot of wiggle room.

I’m was hoping to find a vet who makes house calls, you’d think being in a rural county there would be a lot of them, but the closest one is almost 20 miles away. There probably are some large animal vets around but from my experience from when I had a horse, they (and farriers) don’t advertise, they get enough business through word of mouth. They probably wouldn’t come out for a dog either.

We’ll see how he does today.

Thank you Sunny The washer was a minor thing but it just came at the wrong time. The dog thing is a lot harder.

Supposed to be cloudy all day, but at least it will be warmer, up into the 70s.

I still haven’t heard about the lawn mower. Pisses me off because if they aren’t going to send it that is fine, but at least tell me so I can buy a new one. If it doesn’t rain today he can use the weed whacker to cut down the tall stuff.

For some reasonthis safety video comes to mind.

{{Sari & Sah-dog}}

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, purtified, and caffeinatin’ so no YAWN. ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. for the day. Tonight and tomorrow it’s supposed to rain. We shall see. Sis is out to take care of some personal errands so I am on mom watch. Not to be morbid, but I don’t think it will be long now. As long as she is at peace and pain free I know we’re doin’ all we can.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Sorry to hear about Mom, Swampy. I’m glad you can be with her. I’m sure it’s a comfort.

I managed to stay up all night. Just didn’t sleep. I think it was the new meds they infused today. Grrrr. Oh well. My mom’s dog has been having anxiety type attacks every time she goes in my mom’s room, so she was in hog heaven. She got to sleep all night with me around, which seemed to bring her comfort.

We were supposed to go up to see the Monet Exhibit today in San Fran but a few things to that: I hate San Fran. I may be the only person on the planet that does, but I really just hate having to go there. A congested, jammed, poorly laid out mass of humanity. So that’s one thing. The exhibit, now that I’ve seen the catalog, isn’t really the well known stuff, or, well, the good stuff. I like Monet, but this is very drab and early work, so it’s more realist than impressionist. Also, my mother has already gone twice.

My new plan is sleep when the meds finally let me. Go to the outlet stores near here and get a few pairs of cheap jeans, and maybe swing by the Apple Store in the area because I want to look at computers. I like my plan. I fly home tomorrow night. I guess I can always try to fly home earlier.

That is all. Happy Wednesday.
