Hi Ho Hi Ho It's Off to Heave I Go - An Early MMP

Howdy Y’all! Home from my all day adventure over to the church house. Actually been home about half an hour. Had to ge changed and also feed the printer some ink. Hey, I changed an ink cartridge. I did a chore! So glad to be back at da cave!

Bumba I can’t do it another year. I am rotatin’ off the Vestry and cannot be on again for at least two years. The ByLaws say so and I intend to follow the law. I don’t want to and they can’t make me!

gigity :: tacklehug ::

Ugh. I find myself unexpectedly worried and–Gah!–weepy. My daughter and her hubs and his sister flew to Seattle today and are about to board a plane for Paris, then Italy. She’s a trouper who’s been on rough flights with no issues. Her husband flew in all kinds of aircraft in the Guard and is the calmest guy on the planet. She texted me a little while ago to say the flight from Spokane was so rough, she threw up. She’s never done that before. Even her hubs got queasy. (His sister slept, as she’d been up all night.)

Now she’s nervous about the trip to Paris–asked me to pray, and she’s not religious. I told her hubs to get Dramamine, which he did, and told her a short flight like she had means fewer options for avoiding turbulence. Hopefully the 9 hour flight to Paris will be better.

I don’t know why this has upset me so much. I’ve been worried about this trip–also unlike me. It may have something to do with the sudden loss my friend had of her daughter–exactly my daughter’s age. I’m not sure.

Or maybe I’ve just become a wuss.

Nice to see you Mom -

I’ve lurked a bit but I hope to ease back into the Dope & MMP - I really like everyone here but I am totally behind on everyone’s stories.

Holding you :candle:, your daughter :candle:, her sweetie :candle: and his sister :candle: in the light :candle:. Shoot, throwing in the pilots :candle: and staff :candle: too. Both flight directions, for all legs of their trip.

Thank you! I feel silly for being so emotional about this. And I know, scientifically, that my worrying does nothing to make the trip easier. I guess that umbilical cord stretches but doesn’t break.

We ran errands today. On a whim, I went to the Lummi Seafood Market. We got a ⅔-pound package of Native-caught, Native-smoked salmon. It was $29.99/pound, but they gave us 10% off because The Missus is a veteran. Can’t wait to try it.

Afternoon all. Spent 3 hours with indoor soccer and my feet are a bit sore. Ended up pretty much running the U8/U10/U12 sessions, which I had not counted on but did pretty good for an off-the-cuff plan. Meanwhile the rain stopped but the temperature dropped from 65F to 48F and is still going down. Still, compared to the folks around Bowling Green, KY (I have friends up there and they all say it was a scary time) things are good.

nellie, the overseas flights operate at a higher altitude (38-39,000 feet) and won’t have the mountain effects. I think they’ll do fine. But they’re family; you’re going to worry. Take care.

tugig!! Long time No see. And don’t worry about history–we’ll catch you up as time goes on.

Butters, sounds like a good plan. Glad kids agree, but you are right, it’s about you now, not them. Hope the video is good.

OK, need to search out some sustenance for the evening. All y’all take care.

butters, the really bad stuff went north and east of here. The candle factory in Mayfield, KY had 110 workers in it and at last count, only 40 had been rescued. I hope that they can bring the rest out safely.

Welcome back 2gig! It’s been too long.

nellie, no matter how old your daughter gets, you’re still her mom and it’s your job description to worry about her at times. Hugs.

Got the few Xmas gifts wrapped and stockings made this morning, picked up a little coat for Nelson’s father (Sis decided to bring him at the last moment, but forgot to pack a coat for him), picked up a prescription and got boosted. Cook Out fixed a stoner supper.

Hey, y’all. Got thrown for a loop, but am scraping myself back together.

It’s super-ridiculous windy, and the noise is making my anxiety flare. Will probably turn on T.V. soon (“Lucifer” perhaps) to drown out the sinister howling. A handsome dude with lovely eyes and oh, that suit should distract me sufficiently.

Would you like to join me for a mai tai? Just about to start my second, and some tom kha gai.

That Lummi smoked salmon is better than the foil-packaged, gift-boxed salmon we got at the Christmas party. Both are good, but the local stuff is better.

ETA: The Missus has a fire going in the wood stove – Did I post video last week? – even though it’s over 40º Ferret Height outside. Kinda roasting inside of the house.

Pfffffft - I’m here all the time and I can’t keep everyone and everything straight. Jump in anyway!

I deviled some eggs and saladed some more. Oh, and I de-ashed the pellet stove and refilled it. The rest of my time has been chillage. Worth it!

Thanks, all. I am feeling better. They’re on their way and should be past the turbulence now. It threw me that she got thrown, but your kind concern really helped me. (And a special thanks to MetalMouse for the specifics on Atlantic flights.)

I walked to the pharmacy and told my tale of woe. The pharmacist said I pay for a refill out of pocket. He said the cost was $180, but hold on…[hit a bunch of keys, shook his head] how about $20? I don’t know how much of that was legit discount and how much was him–He’s the manager–but how kind of him! I didn’t even gasp when he said $180, so it wasn’t that he thought I couldn’t afford it.

However–and I’m working up to a point here, believe it or not–it was quite busy, and he told me to come back in 15 minutes. So I did shopping for stuff I didn’t really need. When I returned, he was vaccinating an elderly lady who apparently needed a lot of explanation and reassurance. When he finally got to me, he told me several long stories. I didn’t want to interrupt due to the favor. SO…it was dark out when I left. I used my bright flashlight, but…I tripped. Yes, again. It’s a VERY uneven sidewalk. I wasn’t hurt at all, but my lovely Van Gogh umbrella rolled down a steep, wet hill. Also, my paper bag got soaked. So I’m out an umbrella, BUT I saved $160.

Butters, glad you’re putting yourself first and that kids are supportive of that.

swampy, only a few weeks more until you’re done with junior warden duties, right?

red, I LOVE that you got a little coat for Nelson’s daddy. Made my day.

shoe, wind can sure be upsetting. I had to look up Lucifer in the Satan suit. Looks like he’d be a good distraction.

Hey, everybody, party at Johnny’s house!

Party? It’s strictly medicinal!

Bailey was also named by the rescue I adopted her from. I’d had the name “Charlie” picked out. I was living with my ex at the time and he was never crazy about that name, but he would have dealt with it because we’d agreed that the new puppy would be my dog (he already had a dog). When we saw Bailey on PetFinder, though, we both liked that name better. She was only 3 months old and the rescue’d had her for all of 1-2 weeks, so it would have been easy to rename her, but 13 years later she’s still Bailey.

It was warm and overcast here all day, and the rain and big wind started about an hour ago (around 8:30pm). It’s supposed to stay pretty windy tonight, with gusts up to 50 mph.

I am feeling ~95% “normal” these days (19 days post-op). The surgical pain is gone, the sorneness is minimal, and the glue is finally coming off the incisions. I still have some residual gas that manifests as a sharp pain under my ribs when I take a really deep breath — sneezing is not fun — but I know that will keep getting better. I’ve left the house three times since being discharged: to pick Bailey up from the kennel, to go to my first post-op checkup, and to go to CVS to pick up a prescription. Each time I wore sweats and a t-shirt, which has been my “uniform” for the past few weeks, but tomorrow I will be returning to my vocal workshop and I plan to wear leggings and a sweater! That will be, like, formal wear for me!

On Monday I get to start eating actual food again! I can only have soft/mushy food for the next 6 weeks, but today I ordered a bunch of actual groceries to be delivered on Monday: tuna, hummus, oatmeal, eggs, cheese, steamable frozen sweet potatoes (which I will then mash), etc. I can’t have anything that would need to be cut with a knife, but I will be breaking out the forks!

I’ve also made my first plans to go out since the surgery: I will be having dinner and hearing some live jazz in DC on the 20th (going out on a weeknight! woo hoo!), and then some friends who live in Hawaii will be back on the mainland for Christmas and we’re having dinner on the 23rd. Both times I’ll have to get a little creative at the restaurant, and will likely bring some food with me just in case, but it’ll be good to be out again and seeing friends. I think I will be explaining my situation to restaurant servers for the rest of my life…may as well start practicing sooner rather than later.

Hey, the New York Times was just warning everyone about the high wind advisories in Michigan. Ann Arbor where my youngest kiddo lives is at 64mph, your town wasn’t listed, but I checked. Hope you are all battened down and snug as a bug in a rug. High winds can make such forlorn, intrusive sounds~my kitties don’t like it much either.

Hey, everybody! Strictly medicinal cocktail party at Johnny’s!

Misnomer, yay on all the great progress! Are you still not hungry? And congrats on getting to mushy food on Monday!

In Wyoming, we called them “small dog warnings.”

Not a wuss. Or you’re not used to her flying, and your worrying is all out of wack, especially after this past year.

I’m a bit nervous about my flights next week. I’m generally a bit nervous, but normally I fly often enough that it becomes familiar, so it’s not so bad.

Haven’t been on a plane for almost 2 years, so I think I’m probably going to be a bit more anxious than usual. And thinking about it doesn’t help.

Saw an article that mentioned a favored travel spot moved into the highest-risk category. I was a bit worried that it might affect my travel plans if Switzerland gets put into that category.

Nothing to worry about. Switzerland never left the category. I think Switerland’s been in the highest risk category for most of the past 2 years. Grumble.

Glad to hear people have managed to stay anchored down. Scary pictures coming out of Mayfield.

We have SUN today. We have been stuck in the fog and mist for days and didn’t think we’d see the sun until tomorrow. Nice of it to be sunny on a day we can go out for a long walk.

Today we will retrieve the suitcases and start the pre-packing, mainly toiletries and masks. Already sorted out the gifts and we’ll do clothing the day before. Along with the antigen test and additional paperwork. So much fun.

Happy SUNday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 51 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 65 and N.O.S. for the day. Decidedly cooler than the past couple of days and the temps are more like normal temps for this time of year. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I shall Verge today. We shall grab a McN.O.L. Nappage and much chillage shall ensue the rest of the day. I did not sloth yestiddy so I shall need to double down today.

Nellie you’re a mom. Moms worry. It’s in the job description. I shall be JW until January 23, 2022. I am free right after the new Vestry persons are elected.

oopsie yay for graduation to mooshy foods!

Everyone in the areas of all the high winds stay safe.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence!

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Sweetie, you shouldn’t be out and about without adult supervision… < stern look >
OK, I’m kidding. Hope you’re OK, but, dang, PLEASE be careful!!!

I expect servers get all kinds of explanations/excuses/requests/etc so this shouldn’t be a big deal. If I may be so presumptuous - keep the explanations to a minimum and just make your requests. I suspect the vast majority don’t want your personal details - just what do you want to eat.

So there will be TWO things to celebrate…

Apparently, I slept thru a heck of a storm last night. I did hear rain when I went back to bed, but FCD said the skies opened at some point. Guess when it’s light out, I’ll see if there was any damage here.

Two chores for today - I need to clean the critter fountain, and I want to change our bedding - I’ve been wanting to do that for a week, but FCD has been napping a lot and I was never motivated enough to to strip and remake it immediately. I will do that today if necessary. I’ll probably push the vacuum around too.

We’re waiting for one more boat insurance quote to come back - and tomorrow, I need to move some money from the CD to checking so we can wire it to the broker. I just need to get the final total from him. I don’t want to have to go to the credit union twice - they’re nice and all, but boy does it take forever to do a simple transfer of funds! Come to think of it, even opening an account is, um, challenging.

And so begins the day. Happy Sunday! Less than 2 weeks till Christmas - ho ho ho!

Good morning!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and got Sis and her pooches off. Now for KP and Sunday chores.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
