I just saw the most ridiculous thing coming back from the coffee run.
Spinners. On a Dodge Grand Caravan. Driven by what appeared to be an older version of Bubb Rubb. It was like a scene from The Fast and the Fourtysomethings. ::shakes head::

Morning all!
So yesterday, my cousin was backing out of his parking space when he hit an oncoming car.
It was ridiculous. He is a very meticulous guy and made VERY sure there were no oncoming cars before he started backing out. Then this car comes ZOOMING 'round the corner, horn blaring but not even attempting to slow down. I guess she was trying to zip past before we backed all the way out. My cousin hit the brakes but it was too late and we ended up denting the passing car. It turned out to be a very young girl (17, I think she was) who was totally freaking out and calling her mom and demanding that we wait until her mom got there. We offered to pay for part of the damage and tried to convince them it was better to try and settle this without filing a report (since both insurance premiums were sure to go up) but the mother insisted that it was our fault (which I suppose it was, since technically she had the right of way) and that we had to file a report. She accused us of trying to weasel our way out of this and ganging up on her daughter (there were 3 of us and the girl had been driving alone) which was ridiculous because if we’d wanted to, we could have ran off right after the accident occured - the girl was too busy freaking out the first five minutes to even get our license plate number.
So we agreed to meet at the police station. We arrived first, and then we got a call from the mother saying something about that she had to go to work soon. “Are you on your way?” my cousin asks. “I have to go to work soon,” she says, and hangs up. Uh, so lady, are you coming or not? We ended up waiting another half hour, then I called her to ask her if she was indeed coming. “I TOLD YOU I HAVE TO WORK,” she shrieks.
“Okay, so are you coming today? Or at least, is your daughter coming? YOU were the one who wanted to file the report right away,” pointedly said I.
“I TOLD YOU I HAVE TO GO TO WORK.”
“So… is that a no?”
“I HAVE TO GO TO WORK!”
“You know, only your daughter needs to come here in order to file the police report… You do understand we’ve been waiting here for an hour because YOU insisted we file the report today?”
“I TOLD YOU–”
I took a deep, deep breath. “I understand. Good night.”
God, what difficult people. As soon as we got home we broke out the alcohol and proceeded to pour ourselves some well-deserved drinks. My uncle took pity on us and opened his bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue. All’s well that ends well. \
So I’m heading back to Chicago this afternoon. I can’t believe it’s almost time for the new quarter to start. And I haven’t even started my thesis reading yet.
Haze, are you still in NJ? Because I don’t know much about all the modifications they’ve made to the getting-your-license process, but it’s possible that girl shouldn’t have been driving alone. Fifteen years ago, you could get a learner’s permit at 16 and your license at 17. Now, as far as I know, there’s all kinds of rules and restrictions, and you’re not allowed full car freedom until you turn 18 at least. I think now you can get your license at 17, but you’re only allowed to have one other minor in the car, and you can’t drive after midnight, or something. And you can only turn left on red if it’s Tuesday. I don’t know.
What I wonder is how these kids get to the diner.
But I hope everything works out, and your cousin doesn’t have higher insurance. As if insurance in NJ weren’t bad enough.
Haze, I would have handed the phone to the desk sargeant. I hope you filed your part of the report and I receommend you tell your insurance co and get a lawyer immediately because I foresee great trouble from the [del]motherf[/del]mother.
Well, I’m back and mostly over the Christmas blues. We had a hockey game last night and beat the Florida Seals 6-3. Connor (the player I’m sponsoring in case no one remembers) scored his first professional goal!
It is cold - about 48 outside now at 1pm. I don’t do cold well. I have the heat on out here in the cat suite and fark the power bill.
Did I mention something about having a lizard in the master bedroom/bath? Well, I have two. I saw a smaller one this morning. I’d be trying to get out of the cold, too. I just don’t know what to give them for food - I don’t think there are any bugs in there.
Have a great day, everyone!
Somebody wake me up, please. The lights went out in my section and it’s gloomy out and I really, really want to crawl under my desk and sleep. I could be evil and sneak into the quiet room and take a nap. A nice long nap. Today is going to be even longer than yesterday…
SCL, we had a lizard that lived in our medicine cabinet in northern Arizona. He was so hungry, he ate the toothpaste, which is apparently fatal for lizards. Poor li’l guy.
Does Purina make Lizard Chow?
I’m through being a professional ummm… washperson for the day. Well, almost through. I have to go deliver the dang mops, then I’m through. I don’t foresee this as a possible career move. On the upside, nobody has bothered me all day cause there ain’t a phone in the laundry area and nobody wants to walk all the way to the laundry to break any earth shattering news to me.
Speaking of news, I have some sad news. A co-worker’s house burned down on Christmas Eve. They lost everything.
Hey everybody! I’m off for two days in a row, so I get to clean up a bit. I am going Krogering in a little while, to use my gift card. I have internet hockey tomorrow, and real live hockey on Friday.
SCL, you go to ice hockey games, but you don’t like cold? :dubious:
Haze, I agree with rosie.
Jahdra, take a nap. At one of the old Phar-Mors, there were so many empty offices, that people were doing the wild thing in them(no, not me).
bobbio, don’t feel too bad, Maggie once wet the bed while I was still in it.
Lem, cats n’ dogs are cheaper than an electric blanket.
Somehow tragedies like that seem so much worse coming at Christmas. A good friend of mine of mine from one of our schools - her mother had a heart attack and died Sunday -on Christmas Eve. She (my pal) has two young daughters that were very close to grandma - I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now.
I have to leave from work this afternoon and go to the wake. Not looking forward to that very much at all, I tell ya.
scl, you could get some crickets for the lizards…iffen ya don’t mind em chirpin all day and night til they get et. Most pet shops carry them.
Spent the morning wading through bank crap for my mother. Finally, though, I have online access to her accounts so I can monitor her finances.
Now I gotta go pay my bills. swampy, I’d rather be counting mops.
How terrible re the fire and the CE death.
I am back (we lost internet connxn for some reason)-not that you all knew I was gone!
I am off to see Eragon soon with #2 son. I watched Little Miss Sunshine twice-that is one good movie. Next movie to rent is The Queen.
How is everyone? I am not doing sh*t today-but will have to start on the UNdecorating soon. Maybe tomorrow.
I want to go shopping. I also want to go to a lodge that has a roaring fire, lots of trails and cute waiters. Could someone arrange a limo to pick me up? We need to be back by Friday mid-day. Thanks!
I laundered, dried and counted a grand total of 632 mops of all sorts. That’s a lot o’ mops.
MBG your friend and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. That is such a tragedy.
Glad to see y’all are keeping the hits coming when I’m not here.
My trip to Gettysburg went very well, thank you. I bought a canteen (plastic and made in China but made to resemble a Civil War canteen), and a sword+cane, a dragon-headed cane that unscrews to reveal a blade. Good times, good times.
Chanukah loot! I got a digital camera (finally), a quantum mechanics book, some chocolate, a $50 Amazon gift certificate and a $100 check. I promptly spent the $150 on Amazon. Whoo! Stuff should be arriving soon.
In other news, I’ve swapped rooms with my little brother. It took my entire family the entire day yesterday to do it, because we’re entirely insane. We did it so my brother can have the bigger room, since I’m never here to use it. It was an interesting project, and now I’m back in the room I used to have as a little kid, which is an interesting sensation to say the least. I remember all the furniture … being much bigger. Here, have some puns.
Holiday Pun #1: Clicky clicky!
Those were Monday’s. I was doing double puns this week since I missed 3 days of last week. Here are today’s.
{{rigs}} Feel better, 'kay? ![]()
Welcome to our newcomers. I think LemmeOut’s nickname should be Lemming. And as for Heffalump and Roo, if I called you Heffer, would you have a cow about it? ![]()
I feel fine today (?)
spats --I am not DOING sh*t today–but I feel fine.
Until I read your puns, that is…

Where’s Ellen Cherry? Rue?
I honked as I drove by Lexington and Cincinnati, respectively, on my trip to and from Indyanner. Did ya hear me?
rigs, good to know you’re okay. I wasn’t sure if what you said in your earlier post was still true, about being down in the dumps.
My roommate’s brother (also one of my best friends) moved to Texas in June, and didn’t have the cash to make it home for the holidays. He probably won’t be back until February, at which time we’ll exchange gifts and stuff. I asked him if he wanted us to keep our tree up until he came home. His response was “Well … I didn’t want to ask, and if it’s a pain, you can take it down, but … um … yeah, that’d be nice.”
So I don’t have to undecorate until just about spring.
Pthibbit. Of course we knew you weren’t around. Don’t be ridiculous.
[SUB]Although, you know, my after-Christmas ability to notice anything isn’t really top-notch.[/SUB]
Home from work, which was mostly lazy. I think Useless Co-worker may have forgotten to come in- I’m going to phone and see if he’s arrived yet I’ve got to tidy for Other Quasi-Daughter and Husband’s arrival tomorrow. I’m all sleepy.
QD and Driving Husband got me this stuffed monster for Christmas. He’s adorable.
I don’t want to start a whole thread on this, but I want to get it off my chest: There’s a nasty case of “what I said” vs “what I meant” over here. It seemed to start out as a calm discussion but shots were taken in defense of what the OP meant - except that wasn’t what was typed - You don’t have to read the thread if you don’t want to. And the reason I don’t want to start a thread on the topic is because I don’t want that thread’s OP to think I am attacking him. But “said” vs “meant” seems to cause a lot of friction here in the Cope.
Cute! Where did DH come across these things?
