Hopin' for world peace in the MMP

OMG, no!! Mary Balogh. It’s maybe a step above Harlequin-type books. My secret shame…

I can’t take credit - shoe started us off this week!

I loved that show!!! Wasn’t Imogene Coca in it?

We met daughter and her family at Texas Roadhouse for supper - their invite. Afterwards, I offered to let Roxy spend the night, so they took her home to pack, then brought her over. Daughter will come for lunch tomorrow and take Roxy home, then I’ll work in my yard.

I just put Roxy to bed after reading 4 Paw Patrol books (about 8 pages each.) Here’s hoping she doesn’t get up half a dozen times before falling asleep…

FCM, I firmly believe there is no shame in what we read. If we like it it’s good.

Can I recommend a fun novel to read? Try Bride of the Rat God by Barbara Hambly. Set in 1923’s Hollywood, there’s a supernatural element as well.

Alas, it’s not in the state’s library system.

metal mouse, I, like shoe, envy your tickets to Blue Man Group. I would like to see them live some time.

flyboy, aftermarket cats are much less expensive. About 6 months before totaling my Yaris, I had to replace one. Toyota wanted $1100 for an OEM one. The muffler shop installed an aftermarket one with a 2 year warranty for $350.

{{{nellie}}} I’m sorry that your pain has returned. Hope that you get back to normal soonest.

It hit 79F here this afternoon! I was tired of my own cooking and had a gnawin’ and cravin’ for tater tots, so Nelson and I ventured out to Sonic. They brought him a pup cup (whipped cream, not ice cream this time) so he was happy. I was less than impressed with my patty melt though. Oh, well.

missred, whenever I think about Tater Tots now I think of the movie Venom.

I want chocolate…and Tater Tots

Up from naptime. Dinner tonight is tuna steaks with Szechuan pepper and rice with peas and mushroom.

“Faith…manages.” - Lennier.
And I would have loved to have seen Bester wished into the Cornfield.

We went down to The Beach At Birch Bay, a ‘Five Star Dive Bar’’, to try out Friday Night Steak Night for an early dinner. Ten-ounce New York steaks, salad for me, ‘sidewinder fries’ for The Missus. Two Manhattans apiece. It was good. The steaks were $23 each, which is pretty good for eating out. The Choice rib-eyes I make at home are more tender, but the Prime New York steaks were just as flavourful.

I like that one! I’m beginning to suspect we may have similar tastes in books Ms. Baker.

So sorry your pain is back, but I haz a relieved on your behalf, that your UK friend is o.k.
Here’s hoping your friend’s people pull through as well.
It’s third-person - third-degree? - concern, but still … the whole situation weighs heavily on my mind, too.

Half my family tree is in Poland, and I’m juuuust barely old enough to remember Solidarnosc. Hell, there’s a photo of me somewhere as a wee tyke wearing a Solidarnosc t-shirt.
So the Slavic resentment of Russian invaders is something I deeply understand.

Okay, that’s enough of that.

Onto better - and far more mundane - stuff!

I prepped a brisket today again, after being gun-shy after cutting myself at irk a week or so ago. The cut healed - and didn’t get infected, thank all the gods - and since InCrPoo was there to “supervise” this afternoon, I felt brave enough to get back on that horse again.

Speaking of … I was (mostly) joking about :kissing: him.
We’re too different; I strongly doubt he sees me that way; he’s friends with guys who still work here & it would immediately get weird.

He’s mostly been, I dunno, a fun diversion. I won’t lie, I hated this job when I started it, for a lot of reasons that are mostly irrelevant now, but his presence cheered me up.

End of story. (Probably.)

Besides, I’m running with kids closer to my own age now - okay, sleeping with Gentleman Caller - and that seems to have settled things down as far as being inappropriately attracted to young’uns. (Mostly.)

Do you think I should read it to my ratties as a bedtime tale?

A rat is the bad guy, so no, I don’t think they would like it.

Ooooh, now I have to read it. rubs hands in glee

Evening all. Back from Blue Man Group, it started about 30 minutes late and there were a couple of minor problems (next time don’t catch the first show), but was still loud and entertaining. And I actually used my cell phone to show the CQ pattern and they let me in with no problems–yeah for technology! Red, they still have shows Saturday and Sunday here, don’t know if there are tickets available or not.

The swimmin’ took a little out of me, napped this afternoon and will be heading off to bed here shortly; exercise plus a night out is a pretty busy day for me.

hippy, even if it doesn’t go anywhere, nice to have your skills appreciated.

cookie, sounds like Rent-A-Center was a good call.

nellie, hope your friend in Ukraine stays safe and their family and friends come out ok.

OK, some last checks on the mail and I’m off to bed. Indoor soccer tomorrow with outdoors also gearing up. Keeps me busy and out of trouble on the weekend.

No coffee yet. I was wondering if this was a new way to describe adopting a cat from the shelter.

Both hubby and I had problems getting to sleep the last two nights. Sort of like having too much caffeine, or being on the wrong side of a time change. No idea why.

Since the sun is up, I am too. Have a hair appointment in less than 2 hours - first time in 2 years without a mask!

Had planned to get a few things in town, but with so many people testing positive, I think I’ll limit my contacts for another week.

We were in Las Vegas some years ago and had bought tickets for Cirque du Soleil. Had never heard of Blue Man Group at the time, so we didn’t buy tickets in advance. Should have done my research!

Happy Weekend!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my frday.

To be fair, Alex Catt was only $15, because she was 2 and had a bad shoulder(which mysteriously only bothers her when she’s trying to manipulate me. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: )

Up, showered, dressed, functioning more or less. Poor Roxy has a cough - I heard her several times till she fell asleep, and she’s been coughing a lot this morning. Poor baby. We’ll be heading downstairs shortly - I’ve got a fire going down there to warm things up.

There’s a load of towels in the washer, so I’ll be productive while we’re playing. Then after she’s retrieved, I’ll spend some quality time de-leafing my garden beds. And that will be my day.

Happy Saturday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 53 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. It’s also very dry out so TWPTB have issued a “Red Flag Warning” which means a potential of extreme fire behavior (their words) due to wind warm temps and relatively low humidity. There are no big plans for the day so much sloth shall ensue. Any need to feed will be via forage as there are leftovers as well as plenty of sammich fixin’s.

Nellie glad you heard from your friend in Ukraine. Hope the rest of her family is safe.

Hippy it’s nice to be appreciated, I guess.

cookie the rent a couch place sounds like a good plan.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Well, I have a pile of sad … remember our cat that had a stroke a couple of months ago but walked it off like the onery fleabag she is? Well she had another this afternoon but her whole right side is paralyzed and she can’t walk but she still trying to act like nothing is wrong …and other functions are failing but she’s fighting like hell …
Aunt thinks she going to go sometime this weekend if not tonight …but you can’t get close to her because she tries to get up …shes in one of her favorite spots and we closed the door so the other cats won’t bother her and shes pissed off and surly since she hates a closed-door …and aunts inconsolable since she’s losing her best friend …but the cats almost 23 years old and we knew this was coming …

it’s just one more thing we didn’t need ATM…

Damn, dude. I’m sorry … and my sincere condolences to your aunt.

Even when we know it’s coming, it still sucks big time.

Good morning everyone.

It’s 40 degrees with an expected high of 51 and partly sunny skies.

nellie, I am glad your friend is safe.

nightshadea, I am very sorry about your kitty. It is tough, especially when you know it’s coming.

fcm, I’m sorry Roxy is feeling poorly. I hope she starts feeling better as the day progresses. Daycares and schools are little plague centers.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad you enjoyed your show!

Well the dumpster arrived around noonish yesterday and the husband went straight to work. I was still on the clock, so I couldn’t really help. I signed out around 2:30 and got to start helping. The nasty sectional is in the dumpster, and half of the room upstairs is cleared out. My son is coming up today to help and we should be able to get the rest of that room cleared out, along with the den and hallway closets, along with a pile of blankets and clothes. No one was accepting blankets for donation around here for a long time, then Goodwill line ran clear out to and along the road, jacking up traffic along the main drag. I got tired of trying to find someplace to donate this stuff and I want it gone.

It is absolutely freeing seeing this stuff go. I will never get a sectional, especially reclining again. That sofa never moved from the day we put it together and the most I could do was lie on my belly and run the vacuum hose under the parts of the sofa that reclined. Suffice it to say, the carpet underneath there was nasty. We should have been able to remove the seatbacks of each part of the sectional but it was like they were almost welded in place once I got it together. To get the sofa out yesterday, husband used brute force to essentially tear the seatbacks off the seats.

The carpet will be steam cleaned tomorrow. Really, the nasty carpeting just needs to go, but reflooring a house is expensive and that’s just not an expense I want to take on right now. I wanted hardwood floors for years, but I am probably going to go with some type of waterproof LVP for all the living areas. I really like the looks of the tile that looks like wood flooring, but that is more expensive than hardwood, lol!

Besides, my next expense is going to be replacing my patio slider. There was a leak in the seal and now one whole side of it is cloudy. I will be calling for estimates on that little project.

I have an appointment to take Polar to the vet on the 16th. He’s going to hate it, but he’s due for shots, and given the fact that he has cancer, I want to make sure it’s not in his lungs. I kind of fear it is, but we’ll see.

Well, time to finish my coffee and start staging stuff in the garage for the dumpster.

metal mouse, had I felt better, I would have considered headed down for the show tonight. Sooner or later, they’ll be in Nashville and then I’ll see them.

LOL dicey. We’re speaking automotive here.

{{{shady, aunt and kitteh}}}

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of PJs ready for the dryer and fixing to do KP. It’s nice enough to take Nelson to the dog park today, so we’ll likely do that this afternoon.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!
