Hopin' for world peace in the MMP

A new Italian restaurant opened in Leonardtown, but I don’t think I want to go there. Too cutesy - most of the menu items have mafia-like names. I am not going to order a badda-bing or a don corleone… sheesh. Plus they’re rather $$$ - at least I think so. And hot honey?

I wish we had a real, decent Italian place hereabouts. Not going to mention Olive Garden, and there’s a place farther down the road that locals rave about, but the few times I’ve been in there, it’s been kinda icky. I even saw roaches on the salad bar - ugh!

There’s another place in Leonardtown - used to be our go-to BBQ place, but COVID took it out. Il Piccolo Morso - we keep talking about going there, but so far, we haven’t.

It was pretty good. I’m sending some to my daughter for supper tonight - otherwise I’ll be eating leftovers for the rest of the week. FCD isn’t much for leftovers and while I like them fine, I have my limits. So sharing solves a couple of problems - like she doesn’t have to cook supper tonight.

The little guy has crashed. I think I’ll sit and read for a little bit while it’s quiet.

Morning all. The diggers are running the portable power unit right in front of my house, so there is a noticiable noise (not overly loud but constantly in the background) right now, which will probably help me get out to do my Monthly shopping and later my swimming. Not sure I’ll be as intrusive as Unknown wants me to be  but I am curious what they are doing with the water lines (my water bill was unusually high last month, so there may be a leak somewhere). Heading for 72F today, so nice weather to be about things.

boo fae, so sorry for your friend. He probably made the best decision, but that doesn;t mean the hurting goes away. Best wishes to her.

Taters, I had to deal with Procurement for most of my career (DoD) and they contributed mightily to the loss of my hairline. I know they have to follow regulations (and there is a s***-ton of them, I have seen the shelves), but months to do a simple procedure??

nellie, those fries sound great; best food joint for fries (IMHO) is 5 Guys, they should be classified as an addictive substance.

swampy, good on ya and the members of the congregation.

OK, need to dress appropriately for a public appearance at Kroger and get the March shopping done. All y’all take care.

That is absolutely hilarious.

I am SO happy for you. Truly, no sarcasm (it’s hard to read on-screen) and so delighted { huggzz } in your direction.

This is a true statement.

If I were a mole people, I’d laugh …

… and then I’d kill you.

First things first…

  • Hot Dogs: The only acceptable topping is yellow mustard. In fact, hot dogs are the only food I like yellow mustard on.

  • Underwear: Gets unceremoniously shoved in a drawer.

A good friend died yesterday morning. She’d been battling cancer for the past five years, and a month ago she opted for hospice. My heart is a little broken. We met as co-workers around 2004 or 2005: I don’t often take work friends into “real life,” but we immediately clicked. She and her wife moved to central Washington a while back; I was able to visit them in 2018. I’m kinda mad at COVID for not letting me see her again last year (I tried) or in 2020, and I hate that I can’t get out there for whatever service or memorial is planned. If her widow is up to it, though, I’m hoping to visit this summer. Fair winds and following seas wherever you are now, my friend…

In happier news, I had some lab work done on Monday – I have a followup with my surgeon’s office tomorrow – and have already gotten the results, and my numbers are looking GOOD! It’s nice to not be dreading a medical appointment.

In other good (for me) news, late yesterday my company updated their masking policy in light of the CDC’s new recommendations/county levels. I’m in the building today, and it’s been soooo nice to be able to be unmasked at my desk without my office door being closed! When I’ve been in the halls, I’ve been surprised by how aware I was of not wearing a mask…I think it’s going to take some time for “normal” to feel normal again. Here’s hoping the virus cooperates long enough for that to happen. :crossed_fingers:

Indeed. :hearts:

I can’t read about hot dog preferences without putting in my two cents. Just remember, y’all asked for it. I like mine grilled, served in a bun and topped with chunky peanut butter and sriracha. You may recoil in horror, but think about the flavor profiles for a moment: the hot dog has fat and salt; the peanut butter has umami, fat and sugar and a bit of crunch; the sriracha has acid and heat. Give it a shot.

The mover delivered more book boxes today, so we have a day or two of sorting ahead of us. I finally got all the extraneous cans of paint delivered to the local paint store for disposal. I also sorted all the MANY jars and tins of spices and herbs, dumping quite a few, but keeping probably more than I should. But damn, they’re expensive to replace so why not keep them if they’re still good? We still have to tote the boxes of LPs to the local record store, which should be the last really heavy thing to get rid of.

Nellie What wonderful news on your back! I’m so glad the shot worked.

I have to agree with you. Miracle Whip is not proper mayo. * sniffs in some sort of disdainful sniffing *

BooFae my condolences on the loss of your friend. Is this the one you visited not long ago?

Oopsie congrats on the good medical news! I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I know it was expected news, but it still sucks.

I could have sworn that I put together a long post yesterday, which either got eaten by computer gremlins or posted in someplace weird, like the Ukraine thread.

I hosted a small group of family at my house last night. It was nice! The kids played games with their cousins, and the grownups visited. I had food delivered, so no stress there.

Akiko is currently cuddled up next to me in a little bundle. Her little nose is so tender at this point that she tears it just brushing against things. She just did that with a corner of the bed and is upset that the world is suddenly so violent. I’ve got a vet appointment for her and I think a cone of shame or a protective, basket-style muzzle is in her future. Something that will let her eat and drink but will prevent her from jamming her delicate nosie into splintery cedar fencing or rocks to try and touch noses with Romeo. Silly dog.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Favorite: Deep fried, laid in a bun, covered with chili and then topped with cheese sauce.

Starved and want something fast: Go to the pretzel stand and get a hot dog warmed up in a hot dog warmer, lots of ketchup, with a prezel bun. Brezelkönig is in every train station in Switzerland.

Good morning, Mumpers! (Or good afternoon/evening, depending.) My back feels fine this morning, so today’s plans include…the gym! I’ll go slowly. My muscles have turned to mush, so I’ll have to go down to lighter weights and may have to do fewer reps. Still, a journey of a thousand miles begins with…

Also on today’s agenda: laundry and phone calls. Honestly, I’m happy about it. No more start a load, lie down, move to dryer, lie down. And I can sit up to do the phone calls. Such bliss!

I am VERY worried about my friend in Kyiv. I think they still have internet, but she hasn’t been heard from. She’s smart, as I said, but also feisty enough that she may well have joined the armed civilians. And I’m sad for my friend who escaped. You can get out, but you leave everything behind, including friends, in-laws, home. I’m sorry I keep bringing this up, but it’s so personal to me. I dreamed about it last night. I’m a Christian, so I’m working on not hating Pootin’. As you can see, I have a long way to go.

BooFae, I’m sorry about your friend’s husband. And oopsie, I’m so sorry you lost your friend. It’s an especially cruel time to lose someone. Somehow, not being able to visit when they’re sick or attend the services makes it even more painful. Gentle hugs to you.

Taters, I’m baffled by Amazon’s slow delivery times by you. I’m not TOO far away from you, I think, and most of my stuff arrives in two days. The slower items are ones that don’t ship from Amazon. One time in November 2019, a book I’d ordered for a Christmas gift bounced around the east coast before disappearing in Cleveland. I called Amazon, and they sent a replacement, which arrived in time. Then a month later, the original order showed up on my doorstep, tired but with a tale to tell. Hope your order shows up pronto.

Also, so sorry about the work headache. Wow, how frustrating!

Oops. Phone.

Just got an email from El Jefe that our Collections Manager is quitting at the end of the month after nearly 20 years with the company, to move to Texas.

So there will be a job opening posted soon for someone who ‘is well experienced in collections, liens and related work’ in the Burien/Seattle area.

flyboy, would you happen to be well experienced in collections, liens and related work???

nellie, I can understand your worry; I hope they both make it through this ok.

Sunny, scritches for Akiko (but not near the nose)

Oopsie, sorry about your friend, but happy that your numbers are looking good. And I know what you mean, the employees at stores around here are going without masks, something I haven’t seen in quite some time…

The Great March Shopping is done and stored; only needed 2 stops to get everything on the list. For some reason Saltine Crackers are in short supply; one place was totally out and the other only had 20 or so boxes of the store-brand left. Weird.

Will leave in about a half hour to do my swimmin’ laps at the gym–going for 800 yards today.

All y’all take care.

Moooooom, I’m with you on the Hollywood mob names for the menu items. Hot honey on pizza? I like hot honey, but, fertheloveofmike, on pizza? Oy!

I’m sorry about your friend oopsie.

{{{Akiko}}}

Took about an hour and half nap, got up, fixed some chicken noodle soup and GO ME! washed up the tea mugs, soup bowls and drinking glasses in the sink. I’m actually staying up for longer at a time, so beginning to see my way out of this bug.

There’s always Hebrew National.

About the Visible Mole People: Once upon a time, over 30 year ago, I was sitting in my living room looking out the picture window when the phone company came by with their big truck installing new phone poles. They unlimbered a giant auger on their truck to drill a big hole for the new pole…and hit the water main. :scream:
A fountain of water shot into the air.
It took them several hours and lots of digging to fix the mess. At one point there were 2 guys down in a big hole and about 10 people standing around the hole kibitzing, 2 or 3 of them in suits.
Kept me entertained all day, it did.

As for unders, and other clothing in general, I find that one can get a lot more into a given space if they’re folded.

Yay!, Nellie!

Sorry about you folks who have lost friends lately. Our friend who had the brain tumor died last week.

I told you that the animal rescue people in McMinneville accept books and records and such. Monday we delivered a metric buttload of books, vinyl, cassette tapes, and CDs to their thrift store. Whew!

Yesterday Wifey decided that that would be a good day to haul another load to the new house. We had just stopped at the likker store to get boxes, (they always have good sturdy boxes to get rid of.), so we had a bunch of boxes with bottle dividers in them, so we hunted up all the wine, olive oil, etc bottles we could find and filled the truck with boxes, in between raindrops. We also loaded the little wine cooler. Then we drove ‘over the hill’. They’re all sitting in the back of the truck in the back yard 'cause the rain followed us over here.

We stopped at Joe’s donuts in Sandy on the way over and just had fritters for breakfast. Now I’m on a sugar high. Maybe I’ll go eat a slice of salami or something.

Y’all be careful out there.

Bumbazine, I like Hebrew National as well, but Nathan’s more. And if I hollered for the dog in the park it would sound strange to call “Here, Hebrew National!”

Ah, it doesn’t matter for a while because I give up meat for Lent and today is Ash Wednesday.

I already work there.

Happy Hump Day!

It’s a nice and bright 49 degrees right now, supposed to get up to 60.

My son went with me to drop off the brats at daycare.
Then we went to the carwash, and spent a bunch of money vacuuming up doghair and washing away the crud. I had to spend extra money because the bay I chose would only spray soapy water. We had to go to another bay for the rinse.
Taco Bell made breakfast.

My knee is worse because a few days ago one of the dogs slammed into me while I was sitting on the bench. Then yesterday Echo and Coco were playing as we were leaving. Coco brushed past my sore knee and Echo ran into it. I’m glad I didn’t get knocked down, but it sure hurt like hell.

MetalMouse, most of the stress at the park comes from me being friends with everybody and not wanting to choose a side or hurt anybody’s feelings. Barky’s owner has been a very good friend to me. She is the one who came and got my dogs when my son and I were in the hospital. She is a very good person, and a very nice person, but she needs to control her dog’s barking. I think part of her reluctance to correct the dog is because the dog is a rescue that came from an abusive situation. And, the barking doesn’t bother her at all. The other friend, who is most upset by the barking, is also a good friend. I know he’d do anything for me if I needed help. I think he was offended that I didn’t ask him to take my dogs. He doesn’t have a fenced in yard though, and he has a mess of cats. Not sure how many as he has some indoor cats, but he also TNRs and feeds a bunch of feral cats.
Both are good people in their own way, both are good friends, and I feel stuck in the middle.

My mother is seeing the oncologist tomorrow. Niece1 is taking her, but I got a feeling she wants me to go too. I feel bad, but no, I’m not going. It’s at least a 90-minute drive each way, longer if there is traffic. The oncologist is in downtown Baltimore, which means a lot of walking and my knee would be killing me. I talked with Niece1, it’s not likely to be cancer, but the nodula has to be removed because it is blocking a bile duct. My mother never told me she has jaundice. Then again, her conversations are hard to follow. She never talks in a straight line.

I like okra okay. I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it, but I’ll eat it if it’s in front of me. I don’t like it in soup so much because it gets slimy.
Hot dogs are best with chili, cheese, mustard, and onions. I could do just mustard and onions, have to have the onions though. If they can’t be grilled, then fried is okay. Boiled, microwaved, or on a hot dog maker is just yuk.
Nathan’s are the only hot dogs I buy.
My underwear gets folded, the KonMari method.

Saltines must be in short supply. I ordered some with my grocery order yesterday and they substituted Ritz crackers. Not a good substitute.

I’m sorry about your friend Oopsie and your friend’s husband BooFae

I’m glad your move went well Butters, hope you get everything unpacked and settled soon.

Happy you are feeling better Nellie. I’m sure you are happy too.

The neighbors across the street moved out. Both sides of the house. They were there for only six months. It seems like nobody stays in that house for long.
I haven’t seen (or heard) the Big Mouth Buffoon or the Screeching Banshee in months, found out they moved out too. Good riddance to them.

Three loads of laundry washed. The drying will take longer.
My son finally picked up the pace and washed the walls, baseboards, and railing going up the stairs. He’s finished the top molding of the beadboard in the kitchen, but still needs to do the baseboards.

Hope you are feeling better soon Red

There’s a $h!tload of mourning amongst my lovely, sweet Mumpers lately, so Monkey sends his softest purrs (and plaintive meaows), and Nikki sends her loudest rhythmic purrs and her soft, fuzzy tumm-tumm fur, for all those who are in need.

There is much need for fuzzy tummy fur tonight across the globe.

Indeed there is.

Thank them for me for the comforting cuddle/purrs/meows/tummy skritches.

I feel better already.

Nice try, Nikki, but I had a cat for 18 years and I ain’t fallin’ for that one!

(“Oh hey look at my nice warm soft belly super sharp teeth!”)

I’m rooting for you. Your numbers have just been climbing up, up, up. It makes me smile to read about it.

Bumba I’m so sorry about your friend.

I HAVE DAFFYDILLS!!! I guess spring is here. I also saw one (count it - ONE) yellow blossom on my forsythia. I was planning to work in the yard on Friday and Sat, but it’s only going to be in the mid-40s on Fir, so maybe I’ll try Sat and Mon. Lessee, what else…

I gave Toby back to his mom - he’s been Grumpy McCrankypants all day and didn’t even nap 2 hours, so she’s going to have fun. Then I ran by the accountant’s office and picked up my documents. They asked if I’d paid. Yes, I did. So that’s done.

Plans going forward:

  • Thurs - Grumpy McCrankypants will be back.
  • Fir - we’ll work in the shop - with luck, all the shelves and crap will get moved.
  • Sat - yard work - mostly with the blower and a rake, clearing leaves from the flowerbeds.
  • Sun - drive to Oxford (again) to see how the ladder fits and get the bimini. And maybe some other stuff
  • Mon - more yard work, after I visit the vampire.

You wish you had my life, don’t you?

I foraged a bowl of veggie soup for supper. Chillage shall ensue. Then sleepage.
