Hot Dog! It's the MMP!

Glad the kid is doing well. Kiln stuff sounds cool. Well, hot, really. Sorry about the sad news, FCM. I’ll be thinking about your friend’s family.

Your sister’s hair fell out from anemia, Ashes? eeeeeeeek. Glad you’re on the mend.

I’m getting ready to go to the Lily Festival. I’ve never been to it, but it’s supposed to be fun. We’ll see.

I’ve got laundry going already and need to drop some stuff of at the dry cleaner and get gas. Oh and I need to water some plants. I only have an hour, so I’d best get moving, huh?

GT

Morning, everyone! Welcome back, Ashes! I’m just about to run off to the St. Laurence Market and meet Quasi-Daughter for shopping. Pork, lettuce, spinach, fruit, bacon, potatoes, mexican hot chocolate, and a fine breakfast of chicken parmigiana or peameal bacon on a bun. Yum.

Could we not hold mornings so early? Wait, didn’t we legislate against mornings several weeks ago?

Best Friend and her husband are due here (if they can find the place) between noon and five. I am going to explode with excitement.

I got to go to dance last night! I’ve gained enough that, according to our deal, I’m allowed back in class. I’m not supposed to from the doctors’ standpoint, but hey- they don’t have to know, do they? My dance teacher says I can be in class, but I’m supposed to just mark stuff and not do anything too intensive and she reserves the right to tell me to go sit down at any time.
Rebo- how long have you had the dog? Vets can be wrong. When we got my dog, the vet said she was spayed because she has a scar, but she went into heat and it became obvious that she was not, in fact, spayed. Or maybe your boy dog is just horny.

also, hi Ashes! I know you don’t know me, but we can pretend.

And thanks to all those who offered words of comfort  Things look way brighter today… I got to dance, my sister’s bird is singing like crazy (he’s so adorable.), I get to be lazy and do whatever I want after about 5:00 today… I’m even in a good position at work (that is, they need me more than I need them. It’s nice knowing that, at any time, if they really piss me off I can just say, “fine. bye.” and walk out. And chances are good that even then, they’ll call me and beg me to come back so that they don’t have to find someone new.) my cat is not sick and is eating like a good cat… etc.

Yay on going to dance last noc! And yay on you, Dotster --you have a bunch of older folk here pulling for ya here.

I didn’t know the handyman was coming today–I forgot to contact him yesterday-so, here is in my kitchen. Getting my hair done this PM, and then off to Ikea with #2 son (no, he doesn’t want to go, but at age 8 he has no choice) to by barstools, cutting boards and something else I wrote down somewhere else, but cannot recall at present…

Paper tonoc, as well as reading a Whole Book  (anyone know how to make superscript? That Whole Book :eek should be trademarked).

Another lovely day in suburbia here. Kinda scarey how nice the weather has been. It’s just waiting for me to go downstate with no A/C and get blistering hot, isn’t it…

Hello all! Just stopping by, really.

Just following mika around. I gotta go too.

Hey wait up girl, you’re moving too fast!!!

Hey y’all! Ashes[sup]2[/sup] welcome back! Good to see ya! How’s things out in the collard patch?

FCM sorry to hear (read, really) about your friend’s wife. They will be in my thoughts and prayers. I had a thought re the kiln. Could you like smoke a big standing rib roast while you were firing pottery? That’d be jake cause you could be making dinner and plates to serve it on at the same time!

Dots good news about the dance. Just keep taking care of yourself, ok?

Rigs to do either sub or superscript, it goes like this:

left bracket sub or sup right bracket whateveritisyouwanttobescripted left bracket backslash sub or sup right bracket.

Hope that makes sense.

I just cleaned the back porch. WHEW! Well, I’ve also had a shower. ACBG had a couple patients to see but should be through around twoish. Now I’m gonna go feed me cause I’m hungry. Tonight is the bird supper so I ain’t eatin’ much right now cause I want to be good and ready for some fine bird eatin’.

Well, lessee, I’ll be doing most of my firing between 1900 and 2200 degrees F. A roast is normally done at 350 degrees F. The pottery firing will take from 8-12 hours, depending upon the program I choose. A roast might take a couple of hours. So, if you do the math, a standing rib roast in a pottery kiln, besides making a gawd-awful mess, would be reduced to ashes. (N.O.A.) Yeah, swampster, that’s a brainstorm… :stuck_out_tongue:

The initial firing is all done - it took 14 hrs and 53 minutes, not counting the false starts. I figure my electric bill will be a bazillion dollars, so I’ll have to sell each pot at a gazillion bucks each just to break even. I’m thinking I won’t be retiring just yet.

I also fired up the chipper/mulcher and discovered it’s really too wimpy to chip what I need chipped. But we bought it used and I’m pretty sure I can sell it for what we paid for it. Then I’ll either buy a real one, or just take all the branches and stuff to the dump where they mulch it, then give away the mulch for free.

Right now, I’m waiting for FCD to finish tidying ManLand so we can make a run to the convenience center. Our recycling and trash just about runneth over. And since I’m all grubby from mulching, I’m properly stinky and sweaty for this chore.

Still waiting to hear from my kid - dunno where she is, but I wish she’d call. I expect there are areas of the desert where there’s no signal, yes? That could explain why she didn’t answer her phone. I’m not worried. Much. Yet.

I love sleeping in. It’s glorious. The best is when you wake up 2 hours before you have to, and you get to roll over and go back to sleep.

Whew! So much has happened in the last few posts! Let’s see here …

Sneezy, (The Ashes, Ashes in the rhyme originally referred to the sneezing fits brought on by the plague, i.e. Achoo Achoo) good to see you again, and we’re all joyed that you’re doing well with the anemia. What did your sister do for hair? A wig? Did it grow back?

The Dotmeister - you’re getting better too! Yay!

riggie, in case the swampman’s directions don’t work for you, here is a Genuine Superscript[sup]TM[/sup]. Just click Reply With Quote on this post and you’ll see my coding.

FCM, great news on the kiln. After all this time, it’s finally in your studio and red hot. Just a thought, could you place the roast some distance from the kiln, so as to give it the proper temperature?

Amazingly enough, the room didn’t get extremely hot, although we did have the 2 windows open and 2 exhaust fans going. But no, when it was at its hottest, I had to hold my hand within about 4 or 5 inches before I started to feel any significant heat. I knew better than to touch the outside of the kiln, but it’s pretty well insulated, all things considered.

Hmmm… you could put the roast in the last ten minutes then and it’d be done in no time. Hey, I’m just tryin’ to figure out some multi-tasking here. Maybe some soup or beef stew sat in the kiln for ten minutes, and voila complete meal. I should make an infomercial on the wonders of kiln cooking.

Good morning!

I’ve been out getting stuff out of storage and moving it into ReboSon’s apt. He now has silverware, a toaster, and other assorted necessities. Tom bought him a TV! So he’s set up, and I can quit worrying about him. Until rent is due!

Fried catfish for dinner, with fries and sliced maters.

In a little while I’m gonna go get pampered and get a manicure and a pedicure, so I can wear my new dress and shoes to work on Monday and look all spiffy and stuff.

Oh, FCM - can’t resist - is that your friend there in the wood chipper?

Good Afternoon. Almost time for work, after lunch. I’m working all weekend, so I won’t be posting much, maybe the last MMP post on Sunday. At least I have Wed and Thurs off next week.
FCM:

remove roast and plates, transfer roast slices to HOT plates,.
serves 8

rebo, mmmm…catfish.

The kiln temp is down under 1000 F now. That tells me it’ll most likely be at least a 2 day evolution when I start firing stuff - one day to fire, one to cool. I won’t even open the top of the thing till it drops below 300. I did touch the lid - quite warm, I tells ya.

No Rebo, no friend in the chipper. :stuck_out_tongue:

We had the last Amish tomato with lunch. I’ll be stopping at the stand on my way home from work Monday for sure. For dinner tonight is gonna be tuna steaks, Amish corn on the cob, and cucumber salad. Yum.

I’m doing laundry now - or at least the washer is. I’m sitting here, relaxing. We’ve been to the convenience center to dump our garbage and recyclables. I cleaned and refilled the critters’ water thingy as well as the cat’s kibble feeder. And I made the cuke salad. FCD is building a work bench. When the kiln cools a bit more, I may go down and throw some more votive holders. I want a full load of them.

And, 'cause no one has done it yet this week: Hi scout!!

Still overcast and cool here, 59F, with a forecast of more of the same, with some rain. Temps will be dropping to the 40’s, but supposed to get up to near 60F by Sunday, woot. The day length is 17 hours and 45 minutes though.

gt my second columbine is blooming true to the color I wanted. A dark dark purple, almost a chocolate color, with a white crown, and yellow stamens. Very pretty. I also put in some Mckenna and another variety in the same bed, ya cant have too many columbine! My one surviving delphinium is setting buds, the trolius was lovely, and everything else is trying to get on with blooming, if only the temps would rise.

I think I am going insane with this son of mine. He is 13 1/2, and is constantly testing me. I am not in the best of moods and it is so dumb for him to be poking the irritated tiger. Bah, girls I know how to handle, this last child is such a challenge.

That’s all I have now, got the heating pad on my back, and am having a toddy (hey, it is after noon…)

I have witnessed hot lizard lovin’ right there on the back porch of the swampcave! By the back door even! Shamless lizard fornication for all the world to see! Well, for anybody in the world who happened to be sitting on my back porch sippin’ a cold beer like I was. I saw the lizards eyeing each other on the wall. One big lizard and one small lizard. We will assume big lizard is male and small lizard is female. Although it could have been a big and a small male lizard or a big and a small female lizard. Who am I to judge them after all. Anyways, they took off running, the small lizard first with the big lizard in hot pursuit. They get to the back door, right there on the porch, and, I assume, the small lizard stopped to catch his/her breath when… gasp the big lizard just pounces right on top! They stay in that position for a few minutes, big lizard on top, small lizard on bottom, then big lizard appeared to flip small lizard on his/her side where they remained for a few more minutes. Then, they flipped back to where big lizard was on top of small lizard for a few more minutes. Then they separated and small lizard ran off to the other side of the porch, caught a bug and ate it. Big lizard stayed by the door for a few minutes and then ran up the side of a lounge chair and jumped onto the screen where he just sat for a bit. Then he spyed a bug, caught it and ate it.

Made me think. There have been countless times that I have raided the refrigerator after sex. I have decided that post sex munchies is a thing that crosses all species.

So, how’s everybody else doin’ today?

kaiwik once the big hand and the little hand are at twelve o’clock during daylight, it’s toddy time. Hope you enjoyed it.

FCM are we to assume that votive holders will be a major Christmas gifts from the FairyChat household this season? :stuck_out_tongue:

So, you’re asking yourselves, what has FCM been up to lo these 3 hours since she last posted? Well, wonder no more.

I decided I needed to be productive, so I mowed the lawn, front yard and back, and along the street, including the ditches out front. Most of it I was able to do on our formerly shine John Deere 125 (it’s more dusty than shiny right now) but the ditches had to be done with our also-dusty TroyBilt mulching mower. Not self-propelled. Whew. Even tho we have a 3-acre lot, only about 1 acre needs to be mowed - we’re letting Mother Nature have her way with the rest.

Once the mowing was done, I came in and put the second load in the dryer, the third in the washer, and the first upstairs to be folded - it’s just towels, so no rush. Then I fed the critters, put the still-frozen tuna steaks back into the fridge, and showered. I am now clean and refreshed. FCD just quit working on his workbench and he’s headed for the shower. We made the executive decision to go out for dinner. Good decision.

Kiln temp still in the 500s. Daughter called from AZ - their GPS says they’ll make the Grand Canyon at 9 tonight, so they’ll stop some time before that and go to the canyon tomorrow. She also said they went to a park in NM where they saw ancient lava flows - can’t remember the name of it.

So that’s what I was up to. Now I’m going to don some presentable clothing and go out to dine with my sweetie.

Don’t wait up for me!

I went to the mall and got some shorts. I need to do a load of laundry and buy a few groceries now, but I don’t feel like doing either.

I gotta check my statement against my withdrawals and debit payments and such. I also have to study for a placement test. I really, really don’t want to do it. Especially since I haven’t been able to reach the girl who’s supposed to help me out with the studying.

I went and got all prettified! Frenched fingernails and red toenails.

We just finished fried catfish and stuff. And I made brownies with walnuts in 'em. From a box.

Watched the stoopit Astros lose AGAIN.

Not very productive, I’m afraid. But Tom mowed the front yard before it rained! Yay, Tom!
