Hot Dog! It's the MMP!

I went to the store for beer and ice, and I broke down and bought some beer brats for dinner.
Drae, my parents do the alarm thing when I visit, too.
Of course we missed you,Ellen, where in N.C. did you go?
Rebo, it’s too hot for Maggie to go the dog park here. We don’t have a dog swimming area, just a mud pit if it rains a lot.
Here is your official 4th of July cartoon

Ya know, I once dribbled a bit of Hershey’s Syrup onto a hot dog. It wasn’t as bad as you’d think, but it’s not like I want to put Hershey’s syrup on my hot dog in lieu of a more suitable condiment.

Robin

Good Morning! We’re at the beach! It’s overcast and grey and 58 degrees Merican here, which isn’t so bad when you consider what it’s been like in the Valley the last few days. (Hint: HOT, HOT, HOT!)

We just got through eating one of the biggest cinnamon buns known to man, or woman. It was easily 10" x 8" and about 6" tall. We were late getting away yesterday and stopped at a restaurant called Camp 18 on the way to the coast. As we were eating our lunch/dinner we say a waitress carrying what we at first thought was a mis-shapen cake, but it turned out to be a big bun. So when we were leaving, we asked them to put one in a box to take with. It was very good.

My favorite condiment on hot dogs, when I ate hot dogs, was chili. There used to be a place in Eureka, CA. where you could get a chili dog and a huge bag of greasy garlic fries for under 2 bucks. It was my favoritist dog of all time. Our dear departed Kallessa said recently that it was still there, but I forget the name of the place.
In the '80s in Eugene, OR. the A&W stand over by Autzen stadium used to sell 5 chili dogs for a buck on Thursdays. I would drive over there every Thursday and buy 5 chili dogs and eat them all. They were wrapped, buns and all, in foil and steamed so that the buns were soft and gooy-like. Absolutely fabulous. I got the worst heartburn from them, and other side effects too. Good times!!

You best hot dog value these days is the hot dog or Polish sausage and a soft drink for $1.50 at Costco. The dogs/sausages are kosher and very good. No chili though. On the rare occasions I permit myself one, I get mustard, relish, and onions. Another great condiment for dogs is chopped red bell peppers, believe it or not.
That’s all I know about hot dogs.

Don’t know what we’re eating for tonight and tomorrow, we haven’t bought it yet.

We have to go home Wed. afternoon. :frowning:

There will be fireworks on the beach tomorrow night, both the oficially sanctioned fireworks down in Long Beach, and the un-offical, and much more entertaining, fireworks set off by the locals. We will probably mix up a pitcher of Fresh Boys (a mixture of fruit juices and rum) and take our sand chairs down to the beach and watch the locals. They get some of the damnedest things that go boom.

Have a fun and safe holiday eveybody.

Oh, MsRobyn, I forgot to mention that if you’re ever out of baking powder, as long as you have a basic stock of cornstarch and cream of tartar you’re set. Mix up:

  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Voilà! Makes 1 tsp of baking powder.

And if you keep cream of tartar and relish, you can always mix up your own tartar sauce, too. Much cheaper and tastier than the purchased variety.

I’m actually surprised there haven’t been more booms around here the past few days, considering how many fireworks stands popped up all over the place. I guess everyone’s saving it all for one big effort. That works for me; that way I only have the dog panicking for one evening instead of a whole bunch.

Thanks for the info, but I don’t have cream of tartar or cornstarch.

I’m in the One Missing Ingredient world. I found recipes that didn’t involve baking powder, but required buttermilk. If it didn’t involve baking powder or buttermilk, it needed one thing I didn’t have.

I need to go shopping.

Robin

I bake so seldom that I’ve found that it’s cheaper and easier for me to keep cornstarch and cream of tartar on hand than to toss out a barely-used baking powder container every few months. So while it might not help you now, maybe when you go shopping you could add that to your list? Prevention, cure, blah blah blah.

You put the cream cheese on the bun–what kind of question is that? As if this were some weird food fetish and not done every day in decent, christian households and all…

I am back from the Apple store. I am glad I went, but it’s damned expensive. I have loaded Office for Mac onto my laptop, so it’s all good. It’s already two o’clock! My one day off and it’s almost gone…what’s a mother to do?

Laundry! back later.

Have a safe and unharmed by explosives holiday. I can’t wait to work tomorrow…it should be a nice day. And then, fireworks! Yay!

Now that he’s four (and seems to be perpetually grimy no matter how many times I wash him), people don’t seem to want to touch him as often, but they sure do strike up conversations with him in the stores.
He’s a hoot in the store.
Well, the laundromat was blessedly empty, so I’m back with a fresh clean mattress pad. Now I’m going to continue with my kitchen campaign, organize my recipes in the new album I bought (It has Faeries on it!), and freecycle a duck shaped cake pan. Woot.

Yup, I’m the same way. i do a sort of spring cleaning in the spring, too, but Spring in the NE is weird…one day it could be 30 degrees and snowing, the next 85 and sunny. Summer is really the best time. I didn’t go to the landry, that will be later in the week, but I did everything else. I also burned a whole bunch of CDs that I have to return to their owner. I’ve been slacking on it and finally got around to it. And I just took a shower and I even made beef stew for supper for when he gets home.

I get to leave at 4:30. Which is a whole hour off.

Meh. Better than a poke in the eye, I suppose! Happy Fourth, everybody!

Well, yeah I know I wandered in late today, but cut me slack, I was busy all day and JUST NOW got to sit on the couch with the laptop on my…uh, on my top of my lap…

Hot Dawgs!!! I’m a bad bad man. I love me a good hot dog. Good is defined as all-beef kosher dog. Vienna, Best’s preferably, on a sesame seed bun, loaded, except for relish. Being a Chicago boy, ketchup is a bad word. And the truth is that the pickle and tomotoes usually get picked off and eaten by hand.

In fact, I’ll be at the ball game tomorrow, watching the Sox/Orioles, and as is my custom, the first stop will be the Heineken lady, the very next stop will be the Best’s cart for one with. “With”, being onions.

Hey, rigs, you worked for Field’s? The Kid works there now - not downtown, she’s a Mall Rat.

So people worked today? Damn shame, I say. Almost un-American.

Wife and I just had a nice lunch, now I feel some serious doing nothing time coming on. I have to finish this book tonight because I’mm too anal NOT to, and it’s overdue as of Wednesday, and they won’t renew it because it’s on a wait-list. It’s sunny, muggy and about 82 degrees Merican here, so maybe i’ll change into some comfy baggy gym shorts (POOF! You’re a pair of comfy-baggy gym shorts…) and sit outside to read.

Later, I sense beer on the horizon.

I was out of the house early, went to workout, have a nice swim then a shower, then laid down in front of the sweet Jennifer for an hour long massage. I could do that instead of working just about most Mondays.

Wow. How’d that happen???

That last sentence was supposed to be in the midst of, not at the tail end of that post.

Not that it matters, contextually, since it was all rambling nonsense anyway…

“People who love hot dogs and respect the law should never watch either one being made.” (apologies to Otto van Bismarck)

That’s all I’ll say on the subject, having not eaten them for at least 10 years, and having no plans to eat any for the rest of my life.

My weekend was boring. I did nothing. This morning I had to get up an hour earlier than usual, because my normal ride to work is out of town and that was the only ride I could get. The upshot of this was getting back home an hour early. Work was boring, but productive, as I continue to digest the mathematics I’ll need to do the work that I can’t do until I have a computer in my cubicle. They’re apparently having problems getting one for me. Meh.

Pun:

I get tomorrow off. I plan to do as little as possible. However, I know I have to do laundry today. Curses, foiled again.

Wow! Well that’ll teach me to be late to the MMP! It’s a veritable street party going on here today what with all the different folks droppin by.

I enjoy a good hot dog but have become reduced by guilt to eating Healthy Choice dogs with Nature’s Own Healthy Light bread instead of a bun. I like mine with yeller mustard, catsoup, and, get this, a quarter zesty bread and butter pickle. It’s all good.

I make a grown up beanie weinie that calls for turkey smoked sausage, bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Very tastey!

I didn’t work today neither. I spring cleaned, too. Mr. Anachi is painting the master closet since it’ll be getting tile flooring so alla my shoes got dumped on the bedroom floor. They made a big mound. He kept joking he was gonna take a picture. I did end up throwing out about a dozen pairs that I don’t wear anymore. and no, I’m not saying how many I still have. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’ve been reving up for the neighborhood imitation of urban guerilla warfare since last week. By tomorrow evening it will sound like we are under attack. The pug will have a field day running back and forth in the yard. She loves the boom booms. I may have to limit her time out there though since her breathing isn’t up to snuff these days and it’s pretty hot.

Tonight it’s poke chops and fresh hairy coat verts. That’d be green beans for you ignerts. Tomorrow we will have burgers and baked beans. I won’t be surprised if Mr. Anachi doesn’t go buy some dogs and buns too…even though there are only two of us. Sometimes his eyes are bigger’n his tummy.

Off to start poke chops.

Tupug

Afternoon all! Just got home, after stopping off at the grocery store to stock up for the holiday cook-out tomorrow. We’ll be having hot dogs for sure - I only eat the all-beef ones; I was into the Hebrew National brand for a while, but they’re a bit pricey; lately, I’ve been getting whatever all-beef brand is on sale–fortunately for me it was Oscar Mayer this time. My preferred hot dog toppings are: mustard, little bit of relish, and cheese. If I have it, I add some cole slaw. If I’m getting a hot dog from one of the vendors downtown DC, I get just mustard and that tasty onion sauce–yum!

I can’t get to the SD message boards at work at all! :frowning: So unless it’s a holiday, I’m probably going to be a late afternoon poster to the MMP. Ah well, better late than never, right? p:

We’ll be having hamburgers tomorrow as well, although for myself I got some of the portabella gardenburgers; I’m going to see what they taste like, but you can’t cook them on the grill. Maybe I’ll get a bite or two of hamburger (I shouldn’t really be eating them, much less the hot dogs!). We may also grill some veggies and maybe even some plums and/or peaches!

Anaamika, I saw on the local news last week that there is somewhere they’re teaching Bhangra dancing!! I’m going to check into it and see if I can get into a class. I hope they don’t mind an older, overweight (LOL) lady trying to dance around.

Enjoy your holiday, all.

WOW! Go for it, that is so cool! And are you kidding? It’s different now of course, but my parents’ generation wasn’t allowed to dance much as children or teens, except in their rooms with the doors shut. Now all the Aunties and Uncles of that generation dance, and dance more than the kids! Go for it, Spicy! (That’s your nick, right?)

Oh, that was a nice nap. Wait, this is a new MMP…What day is it? Ok, that is the last time I take Vicodin as prescribed. The last thing I remember was taking 2 and going to bed, then waking up 7 hours later still in pain and taking another. That was Friday night. I vaguely remember Saturday and Sunday, I think a plumber was here one day? The bathroom sink doesn’t back up anymore. I have no food and no clean clothes but the cats have food and water, the garbage cans are all empty and the cat litter was changed, so apparently I accomplished something. I do remember feeling very depressed and miserable, now that I think about it. Brrr. I won’t do that again. I’d rather be in pain and feel relatively normal otherwise than be out of it like that for days. No wonder Skunk kept pressing his cold, cold nose to mine and yeowling.

Since it is Monday, I got my yarn shipment. Yay! Such pretty colors: Fresh Pesto, Rose Garden, Lilic Sachet, Cape Cod Blue. I can’t wait to start those projects.

spats , I laughed out loud at today’s pun. Obviously, the vicodin is not all the way out of my system.

Darn you all and your hot dogs! Now, when I go to the store, I am going to be tempted by the veggie and/or tofu pups and buy them and be soooo disappointed. All vegetarian hot dogs are meh, just in case you wondered. I love veggie bacon and sausage and burgers, but not hot dogs. Something essential is missing. Maybe they need to sweep the floor and dump that in, too? When we were little, my brother would microwave hot dogs until they exploded and then drown them in ketchup and wrap them in a soggy tortilla. Doesn’t that sound good?

Now I’m off to the store to buy food.

OK…I’ve speedread my way through the MMP. Welcome (back) everyone whose here for the first time (in a while). OK…so it’s not really personal, but I’m in a crazy rush and basically doing a drive-by.

Hot dogs: like 'em occasionally, don’t really care if all-beef or mixed or pork as long as they’re reasonable quality (if you can talk about quality with hot dogs) Mustard for me. Occasionally sauerkraut. Maybe some cheese.

We used to add hot dogs to creamed corn. Not really sure why. For a while, I really really liked it.

Well, I’ve mowed (got all the front, then it started threatening to rain and there was thunder just a bit too close for comfort, so I figured I was done for the day). At least it’s less embarrassing looking.

I’ve gotta clean the kitchen and bathroom and then pick up stuff. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a fair amount of laundry done too.

Bro is scheduled to arrive between 9:30 and 10:00. Lessee what I can get done in 3 hours. Back after a while, maybe.

GT

Hello, new folks!

I am not in a very good mood. Got hassled by the manager on duty at the hotel when I went to get my card reprogrammed so I could actually get in my fargin’ room. Have to talk to the boss manager tomorrow morning, and am not looking forward. I don’t have quite enough money yet to get into an apartment, and I really, really, really don’t want to have to move to somewhere else temporarily.

I also have to work tomorrow. The buses aren’t running 'cause of the holiday, so that means I have to take a cab there and back. Bleh. Not that I really mind, it’s just another thing to complain about.

Howdy all you new folks! Welcome to the MMP. Jump right in and be Cool Kids. Chocolate goes to FCM and all that junk.

Rebo see the post title? See, after I left work this morning, I called ACBG and a couple friends to say I was on my way home. ACBG said he was pretty much gonna be through stuff in a couple hours and would come on over. One friend was already off today and the other said he would probably be through work by noon. So… I went to the store and bought hot dogs and buns. I told everybody to come over. It ended up with twelve people coming over (with orders to ACBG for more dogs and buns to be bought) for an impromptu day before the fourth pool party. People brought chips, coleslaw, brownies (woohoo!) and beer. Much merriment ensued. Swampy is slightly snockered. All thanks to you and your OP Rebo. Makes ya proud don’t it?
