Happy Independence Day to Everyone! (including the non-USA folks!)
So the firework show went off as scheduled at midnight, 20 minutes of booms and cracklings and sputterings, while the dogs formed a quivering protective barrier around me. They were actually trying to climb on top of me, but I resisted. #3 daughter spent the night with one of her friends, and the skiffman’s crewmate came and picked him and The Son up to go to the top of Pillar Mountain to watch them. It’s a nice view, and my choice of places to watch the city’s fireworks show back before I had all these crazy dogs.
rigs and pugs thanks for the sympathy and advice. I sent the skiffman to Safeway last night to find me something with aloe in it, and he came back with Solarcaine, which has both aloe and lidocaine, and since I have no blistering I used it, which made sleeping tolerable last night. The edema has lessened (I googled sunburn swelling!) and I can even put my arm under the sheet now. the top of my right foot is also burny burny, but I just solarcained them both, and it’s getting all good again. (why am I channeling #1 daughter’s voice?) Oh, and let me assure you rigs that banya is a very good thing!
Jahdra another loverly bag! #1 daughter would love it, even at 24 she’s all about pink!
MsRobyn you have my empathy when it comes to the big purple dinosaur. Daughter #3 (as well as The Son, though not quite to the same extent) was smitten by Barney and Baby Bop, had stuffies of them as well as every video they made. I remember one long boring summer day when she was still a tot we watched the new Barney video 12 times in a row…that’s just too much for a parent to be subjected to!
rebo I am having a similar situation with #1 daughter and her husband. Both are 24, and both seem to think the parents should rescue them from their bad decisions. My daughter works, but her husband is still unemployed after last summer’s insanity, and I am not happy about the situation. (He devel1oped a seizure disorder last August, almost died as a result of aspirating vomit during a seizure, etc.) and both his parents and skiffman and I have been helping out, but he has been cleared medically, even got his CDL back from the state, but still he sits on his butt playing video games while my daughter works her butt off at a dead end job. So, no more help from us, although his mother is still paying most of their bills. I am not happy about the situation, not one bit.
It’s 11:09 ADST and I am the only one up. The dogs have had their breakfast and are taking their naps, no movement from either the skiffman or The Boy. It’s grey skies today, although they might break up. As long as there is no rain we will have grilled hamburgers, the rest of the N.O.T. salad, baked beans, fresh fruit, with cherry pie a la mode for dessert. Probably the kids will lobby for chips and soda, and I’ll probably give in. The skiffman is a recovering alcoholic (sober for 11 years now) so he will want soda too, and I just might have to whiz up a blender of something special, margaritas or daquiries no doubt. Rum and I are good friends, I have to decide if I really want to deal with a tokillya head tomorrow morning!
I think I’ll go get my book and read while it is still quiet. I am re-reading The Once and Future King both for the pleasure of it, as well as to familiarize myself with the questions that #3 daughter is certain to ask when she reads it. (The Wart just pulled the sword out from the stone!)
Happy Day, all y’all!!!
