Hot Dog! It's the MMP!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY**!!!**

White just ain’t a good posting color is it? Anyways happy Fourth of July to all my fellow(ess?) Amurrkin dopers. All you others, have a good day.

I have baked beans in the oven cause this soiree I’m going to today needs some and I found out our hosts had not planned on making any. I am appalled! Ribs, bbq, N.O.T. salad and no baked beans? The Philistines! It’s a good thing they have me is all I can say. Can you imagine the shock and dismay that would have been on everyone’s faces due to the absence of baked beans? Un-A-Murr-Kin is all I can say!

Later Y’all!

I think the cat is relieved that Robert has gone home. She just climbed up on me and head-butted my chin, purring like crazy. Guess she was thanking me for getting rid of the noise-maker!

Suddenly, I’m tired. Maybe I’ll sprawl in the recliner and watch some non-Nickolodeon TV…

Happy Fourth Of July everybody! Wow, how’d it get to be the middle of summer already??? I’m about to shower then head over to The Princess’[sup]TM[/sup] new place. We are going to sit out next to her complex pool. I will probably get burnt even wearing sunscreen cause I haven’t been out at all this year. Speaking of, kai, there are some really good aloe-based gels on the market to treat sunburns, though I don’t know if pharmacies stock such items up your way.

swampy, you are so totally right about the baked beans. Not having them for the Fourth is like Thanksgiving without cranberry sauce. Unthinkable!!!

fcm, I sure hope you get the kiln up and running and it’s not like it’s defective or sumpin. That would not be at all Jake.

Neighbors across the street played with fireworks last night. Jade (pug) was beside herself and totally wore out by the time we hauled her in to go to bed. I am so looking forward to tonight. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have a great day all!

HappyIndependanceDay!!!

See, swampy, it looks better if you repaint the background first.
And happy Tuesday to all our non-A-Murr-Kin Dopers! The fireworks started last night. Either that or the Viet Cong were besieging Kroger. It’s going to be a scorcher again today 95, with a heat index around 100. I think I’ll do some laundry, then go to work. At least I only have to work half a day.

Kotick, of course you can post in the MMP on Tuesday! We don’t have a ton of rules here. If you still feel guilty about it, I will give you absolution for a six pack of beer.
Jahdra, neat bag. Can you knit a straight-jacket for Evilcat?

Rightyo mate, I will sacrifice that sixpack tonight when watching the soccer world cup semifinale between Italia and Germany

FCM, thanks for clarifying what a kiln is, now I have learnt something new today too, and I do not have to get paranoid about motorised kilts.

Happy 4th!!![COLOR=Red]

I sat up until 2 am watching Wil Smith vanquish the mean aliens then get to make out with Jeff Goldblum. Yawn.

We don’t have any pic-a-nic plans today, but we are instead going to take in a ball game, which is another fine Murrkin tradition, right?

The cousin who’s in town with her family - their group is going to the Sox game, so I put an all-call out for tickets, and ended up with 8. The Wife, the Kid and the Kid’s friend Phil are joining me, and a couple friends and their wives will be in the Wife’s company’s seats.

Right now, I’m hydrating, which is a fancy word for drinkin’ water, then I’m off for a ride on the bike before I come back and clean up for the game.

See y’all! (Gah, I’m talking like swampy now, what’s come over me??)

Almost time for work. Yawn. Fell asleep at six, after Mr. Lissar left for work. I may not have today off, but I’m only working one more day between now and Sunday, so there!

In the all-American tradition of rampant consumerism, we’ve been shopping this morning! First to Lowe’s for some plumbing stuff and a couple of stools for the workshops, then to WalMart for a few things we couldn’t get in Lowe’s, including dog food. Now we’re home.

FCD is in the basement working on my work table. I’m brewing a batch of iced tea, then I’m going to read over my kiln manual again and try to figure out what the deal is. If I can’t find the answer I need, I’ll email the manufacturer, hoping they’ll answer while I’m at work tomorrow. Otherwise, I’ll call when I get home. So with luck, I can do my first firing this weekend and be done with it.

Meanwhile, I think I’ll continue to throw some votive holders. Plus I made a heart-shaped pot the other day that I really like, so I think I’ll throw a few more of those. I need to get a kiln load so I can do a proper firing after the burn-in firing is done.

Oh yeah, it’s still blessedly quiet here. No Spongebob. No Robert complaining about being bored. No Robert hogging my computer.

Ain’t I a terrible aunt??

And oddly enough, there have been no firecrackers going off around here. Other places we’ve lived, they’ve started a couple-three days before the 4th. But our neighborhood is really quiet. Which means neither Bernie nor Brandy (that’s the cat’s given name) are freaking out. Wonder what tonight will bring?

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Do they have the 4th of July in Canada? <snerk>

We had a small breakfast of whomp biscuits and honey, and cut up fruit. For lunch we’re grilling some :goes to look at package: Ballpark Grillmaster Smokehouse Franks that hubby bought yesterday.

My nontraditional dinner will be ham and scalloped NOTs and steamed speargrass. Yum.

I talked to my son yesterday. Seems he’s still without a place to live. He’s been staying in hotels, which is getting very expensive, even if he’s sharing. By mutual decision of all parties involved, it was determined that living here was out of the question. He still has a job though.

So – hubby and I have agreed that we will get him set up in an apartment, by himself. He will be close enough to walk to work (it’s the same apartments he was sharing with a roomie before.) I’m hoping he has learned his lesson about getting his shit together and paying bills on time, and I told him this too, that this will be the last chance I will help him out. He’s almost 22, and has not fixed the problems in his life. When things are going smoothly, he just coasts along, not taking care of tickets, or getting a new ID when he lost his wallet.

So Mom and stepdad are coming to the rescue, one more time. I hope I’m doing the right thing, and not “enabling” him once again.

Anyway - thanks for listening to me whine.

Everybody have a good time today!

Good morning everyone and Happy Independence Day!
The fireworks have been going off for days around here. I’ll be so glad when everyone is done with those.

After the fireworks died down last night, we had a thunderboomer here. Oh my God, the first clap of thunder was so loud it set off someone’s car alarm, made my house vibrate, and it rumbled on forever. Then the sky opened up and it poured down rain.

The sun is out now, sorta, but it’s supposed to make it’s full appearance by late this morning.

I’m going to have to get going soon. I need to run to the store to pick up stuff for the BBQ, plus I need a few items here at the house.

Other than that, I’ve got nothing.

Manual has been reviewed. I still can’t figure out what, if anything, I did wrong. I’ve written to the kiln manufacturer - hope I hear back tomorrow.

It may be a non-issue - the manual was last revised in March of 2004. Judging by some of the spelling and grammar errors in it, they don’t seem to be particularly meticulous about their manual, and they may be equally lazy about updating it. But I won’t make that assumption - not with a multiple-thousand dollar investment. It’s no rush. I can wait till tomorrow. Because I’m nice. Dammit.

I was thinking about doing some wheel work today, but I may just be a bum. I just feel lazy today. I need a lazy day. I deserve a lazy day!

And ice cream. I deserve ice cream. It’s lunch time on the 4th of July - if that doesn’t call for ice cream, nothing does!!!

Ha ha! I kid about the “blah, blah, blah” part. I’m a crack-up like that.

Anyroad, my Mom would make something like this. (Didn’t everyone’s Mom, at one time or another?) She’d dump a can or two of baked beans into a dish and set a layer of hot dogs on top. (Probably a little ketchup, brown sugar and possibly mustard in the beans to dress them up. Maybe some Worstechestershire sauce if she was feeling really fancy.) And then in the oven they went. (I’d guess at 350º, because Mom baked just about everything at 350º.) Voila, Hot Dog Casserole!

She only made this when Dad was out of town on buisness.

And the store-bought Beanie Weenies? There are two kinds (that I know of): original and “baked”. The “baked” kind is better, but it’s hard to find in local stores near me. My life, it is a trial.

Now I gotta go. The sibs are showing up, just to visit some on the 4th.

See ya.

Hi Rue! Glad you dropped by.

Well, my shower has been taken and I’m all clean and smell all purty like. In a few minutes, I’ll dry my hair and head on off the the hell that is the grocery store today.

When I return, I shall boil potatoes and eggs, and commence to making my tater salad. I will also have to make hamburger patties. I’ve been informed I can’t buy the pre-made that are found in the freezer section. Dammit! I’ll do it the hard way because as FCM often says, “I’m nice, dammit!”

So, am I the only MMPer who’s pretty much ignoring the holiday today? No cookout, no picnic foods, no fireworks. We’ll prolly have leftovers for dinner and go to bed early.

Woo *and * hoo.

Sigh…I wish we could. I’d much rather stay home and chill today. You know, through some meat on the grill, enjoy each other’s company, and ignore/avoid all the hoopla. Wanna trade?

We’ve already told our friends we’d be there, and it would be rude to back out now.

Crap! That would be “throw” some meat on the grill. What the hell is wrong with me today?

Yeah, what is wrong with you today?? :stuck_out_tongue:

I really should do a little something - being idle all day means I’ll have a hard time falling asleep tonight, which means I’ll be a zombie at work tomorrow.

But I don’t wanna do anything!!!

I’m tired, that’s what’s wrong. My social agenda for this week is way too big. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just talked to my MIL and she wants us to have dinner with her on Thursday when we drop off our dog. She’s going to babysit him while we’re camping. We’ve packed way, way too many activities into this week. I’m looking forward to my second week of vacation in August. I’m not gonna do squat!

Happy Independence Day to Everyone! (including the non-USA folks!)

So the firework show went off as scheduled at midnight, 20 minutes of booms and cracklings and sputterings, while the dogs formed a quivering protective barrier around me. They were actually trying to climb on top of me, but I resisted. #3 daughter spent the night with one of her friends, and the skiffman’s crewmate came and picked him and The Son up to go to the top of Pillar Mountain to watch them. It’s a nice view, and my choice of places to watch the city’s fireworks show back before I had all these crazy dogs.

rigs and pugs thanks for the sympathy and advice. I sent the skiffman to Safeway last night to find me something with aloe in it, and he came back with Solarcaine, which has both aloe and lidocaine, and since I have no blistering I used it, which made sleeping tolerable last night. The edema has lessened (I googled sunburn swelling!) and I can even put my arm under the sheet now. the top of my right foot is also burny burny, but I just solarcained them both, and it’s getting all good again. (why am I channeling #1 daughter’s voice?) Oh, and let me assure you rigs that banya is a very good thing!

Jahdra another loverly bag! #1 daughter would love it, even at 24 she’s all about pink!

MsRobyn you have my empathy when it comes to the big purple dinosaur. Daughter #3 (as well as The Son, though not quite to the same extent) was smitten by Barney and Baby Bop, had stuffies of them as well as every video they made. I remember one long boring summer day when she was still a tot we watched the new Barney video 12 times in a row…that’s just too much for a parent to be subjected to!

rebo I am having a similar situation with #1 daughter and her husband. Both are 24, and both seem to think the parents should rescue them from their bad decisions. My daughter works, but her husband is still unemployed after last summer’s insanity, and I am not happy about the situation. (He devel1oped a seizure disorder last August, almost died as a result of aspirating vomit during a seizure, etc.) and both his parents and skiffman and I have been helping out, but he has been cleared medically, even got his CDL back from the state, but still he sits on his butt playing video games while my daughter works her butt off at a dead end job. So, no more help from us, although his mother is still paying most of their bills. I am not happy about the situation, not one bit.

It’s 11:09 ADST and I am the only one up. The dogs have had their breakfast and are taking their naps, no movement from either the skiffman or The Boy. It’s grey skies today, although they might break up. As long as there is no rain we will have grilled hamburgers, the rest of the N.O.T. salad, baked beans, fresh fruit, with cherry pie a la mode for dessert. Probably the kids will lobby for chips and soda, and I’ll probably give in. The skiffman is a recovering alcoholic (sober for 11 years now) so he will want soda too, and I just might have to whiz up a blender of something special, margaritas or daquiries no doubt. Rum and I are good friends, I have to decide if I really want to deal with a tokillya head tomorrow morning!

I think I’ll go get my book and read while it is still quiet. I am re-reading The Once and Future King both for the pleasure of it, as well as to familiarize myself with the questions that #3 daughter is certain to ask when she reads it. (The Wart just pulled the sword out from the stone!)

Happy Day, all y’all!!!

Well, 3 hours later and $15 poorer, the laundry was finished, including the winter blankets. Then I came home and took a shower (for some reason, I always feel filthy after going to the laundromat) and changed into actual clean clothes, not just ones that passed the sniff test.

I had waffles and bacon for lunch, and if that’s not what the 4th of July is all about, I don’t know what is.

There was lots of booming and banging this morning at 12:01 am. Well, it is the 4th and it’s dark, so…

dogbutler, I’m sure I could design and knit a feline straightjacket, but I won’t be responsible for what happens when you attempt to put said feline in the straightjacket. Hmm, I wonder? What kind of yarn would you use for such a thing? Probably felted wool, with heavy buckles, tubes to strap the little paws down first…Great, now I’m designing kitty bondage gear. Thanks a lot!
