Hot Dog! It's the MMP!

You’re not alone, FCM. We did a bit of shopping this morning, are watching the World Cup game right now, and will be eating jambalaya for dinner. No fireworks since our golden freaks at all the booming so we can’t leave him home alone, plus there’s a good chance of thunderstorms, plus we can’t stand big crowds. Woo and hoo indeed.

But that’s okay; I’ve been working hard at this job I have to have done by tomorrow, and am making good progress. And it was great to see the shuttle go up. That’s enough rocket’s red glare for me!

I’m basically ignoring the holiday as well. I had to work but got off at three. I plan to just hang out, maybe have a nap, and then probably watch the fireworks–I believe that there will be some at the park across the street.

I’m boooooooooooooooored.
our neighbor is moving away. It’s sad. I like those neighbors. I babysit for them and watch their dog when they go on vacation.

They can’t take their dog with them, though. I’m not sure exactly why… I got all this information secondhand. They asked my parents if we’d be willing to take their dog. My mom adores that dog and the rest of us are pretty fond of her as well, so I do believe the answer will be yes.

My mom says nothing’s final, but she wants to bring Tammy (the new dog) over to see how she gets along with my dog. I hope they get along well. My dog likes other dogs, but I don’t know how she’d like sharing attention.

Also, I’m thinking of dying my hair. what do you guys think? I’m thinking a reddish-brown.

And I’m also a holiday ignorer. I considered putting on patriotic eyeshadow, but then got lazy and decided not to.
I used to love hot dogs. cut up ones in stuff. mac & cheese with hot dogs or baked beans with hot dogs… stuff like that. And I always cut them up, becuase I’m a dork. Now, of course, I don’t eat them. (as Jahdra said, vegetarian hot dogs range from meh to suck.) Also, hot dogs on the grill with the black blistered skin is just gross.

Maybe I should clean or something. take out the trash or mow the lawn or something. or draw a picture.

Fireworks don’t seem to bother my dog in the least. He just ignores all the booms and bangs.

Funny story: A few years ago, while we were still living in the old neighborhood, we were letting fireworks off for the 4th of July. My poor dog cannot stand NOT being in the midst of things, so we brought him out to see how he handled the fireworks. He was doing just fine; the noise didn’t bother him in the least, he just sat there and watched with the rest of us. Until…someone lit of one of those whirly things that spin around on the ground. The crazy dog was trying to catch them and eat them. Of course we didn’t let him actually get any, but we did take him back to the house, where he whined, cried, and yipped until we came back to the house.

I’ve just returned from the grocery store, and now I’ve got taters and eggs on the stove to boil.

I’d still much rather stay home with just my immediate family than go anywhere tonight…

I believe my studio is really, truly finished. Here’s the glazing center - note the jars of glaze on the shelves, as well as some recently thrown pieces drying. And here’s another view of my glazing bench, my new stool, and the tidy arrangement of my supplies. It won’t last, but at least I have photo evidence of tidiness.

I’m inserting a link to some pictures from the mountain lake this last Saturday. The last three are from Saturday. Our friend was recording us with her camcorder and then snapped and saved some of the film as pictures. That explains some of the bluriness. At any rate the pictures are of me wakeboarding; Mr. Taters wakeboarding, and Mr. Taters and one of our friends on the tube.Lake Kachess fun

The taters are just about done cooking, I think, so I need to take them off the stove now.

Hee! I got ol’ Bus talkin’ like me now.

I’m home from a large day in Parrott, Ga. Ribs. BBQ. Brunswick Stew. Plus all the usual fixin’s stuff. I did indeed save the day with baked beans. They all got et up. Hah! Oh, and somebody brought fresh picked corn, which we shucked, silked and grilled. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!!! I ate three ears of corn. We also made homemade peach ice cream. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMM!!! I ate two big bowls of that. I’m kinda stuffed.

Hope all you Amurrkin cool kids had fun today.

KA-BOOM!!!

Oh no - did swampy just explode?? Or was it the beans???

You talkin’ bout the thunderstorm over my head as we speak, swampy? Cause that ain’t no fun KA-BOOM!!!

I just ate my jambalaya with my golden retriever trying to climb behind me. A comfy back cushion he ain’t.

Gee, Mama Tiger, you’re just up the road apiece from us, and it’s sunny here. But I’m just about to run out for pizza, so I figure the sky will open about the time I pull into the parking lot at the pizza joint.

You’d better go fast, FCM – it’s heading your way and it’s very windy as well as lots of rain and lightning and thunder.

Back, safe and dry, but it’s clouding over. I expect we’re going to get whomped shortly.

I wish there were storms here. But no, only heat. Incredible, permeating, broiling HEAT. I was exposed to it when I went to work out this afternoon. I know, me exercising is unusual. But, I seem to already be making progress, at least a little bit. So that’s good.

You know what else is good? Puns. Puns are good. Here’s today’s pun, in honor of the holiday:

I’m hungry, and it’s dinnertime. I may try to make those two facts work together. I have to get up and go to work tomorrow. Ugh. Hopefully I’ll have a computer at my disposal.

What exactly is jambalaya? I’ve heard of it, but never really been told what it is.

The rain is here - pitter patter and all that. Wonder if it’ll affect fireworks? Not that it matters to me - I’m in for the night. 'Cause I get to work tomorrow. Woo, hoo, and yahoo.

<sigh>

Jambalaya is rice all Cajun seasoned up and with whatever you like meat-wise thrown in it – tonight’s was sausage and chicken, but all kinds of seafood are also good. Crawfish is the best, but since crawfish costs more like $10 a pound in Maryland as opposed to $4 a pound in Louisiana, we don’t have crawfish in our jambalaya very often. :frowning:

Easy way to make it, though? Go buy a box of Zatarain’s jambalaya mix. Throw it in a pot with water and some meat. Voila! And while homemade can be good, too, I ate more Zatarain’s when I lived in New Orleans than I did homemade so figured if it was good enough for the locals, it was good enough for me.

Well, I am back from work. I’ve had my corn on a cob and N.O.T. salad, and am Foremanizing my burgers as we speak. Sort of a “Cook-In” It’s hot but quiet, no fireworks(natural or man made) yet.
Taters looks like fun.
FCM congrats on the studio! Have you figured out the kiln yet?
Dot I love red.

Me, too. VWife and I are home after a long day at the homestead. We took out the paneling in the living room, took down the wainscoting in the kitchen 'cuz it’s replacing the living room paneling, patched a metric buttload of holes in the walls, taped 2 rooms for painting, and primed one of them. VWife also had an entertaining time peeling wallpaper out of the kitchen.

The paneling in the bedroom has to stay because it’s applied to the studs, and I don’t have the bucks nor the time to drywall it. I will however mud and tape the panel joints in an effort to make to look like drywall.

Our former denizen left us a trailer full of trash to get rid of, but we get to keep the trailer. I also picked out a VCR, a gorgeous wok, and the satellite terminal for his Dish system. The Dish dish is still up on the shed, so I’m going to salvage that and try to sell the set.

The neighbors to the south in the big white plantation house came a calling, and brought us a dozen homegrown eggs. I like them already…

I’m looking forward to work tomorrow so I can rest. This shit starts again bright and early Saturday. I’ll have the yard to mow then, so maybe I can play on my tractor…

I called my parents earlier. They were about to go to my aunt’s for dinner. I took a nap after I got off the phone, so I slept through a portion of the fireworks and decided not to go to the park after all. I feel lazy.

We didn’t make it into the golf course for the fireworks (because I got out of work late), so we joined the folks on this embankment cum strip o’ grass next to a parking lot. We were about 5 feet from train tracks. And guess what? Halfway thru the show, a train came! It was so weird to have a very loud train whistle to score the fire boomers. It was only a 50 car train, so it was shortlived.

Came home and did the sparklers–forgot to pack matches. Duh.
Beautiful evening here–cool and mild, with low humidity. Thank God–I didn’t sleep at all last noc, so am ready for a good noc.

HA! First, post-meltdown, MMP Post goes to ME.

Welcome back everyone.

Who had withdrawl, raise your hand!
