House 5/9: The Fix

House and Wilson bet on a boxer who needs to jumpstart his career.
Also, House may have more of a drug problem than Vicodin dependency.

I really hate to be one of those people. But the only thing I enjoyed about this episode was the preview for the next episode. I was annoyed with ever character on the screen.

I don’t know. Could just be PMS.

I didn’t see the previews for next week, but my guess is that House is going to be the patient. Can someone either confirm or deny in a spoiler box?

I can’t say for sure, but it looks as if he is going to

gouge out a big piece of his leg.

I could have gone without the entire boxer storyline. Come to think of it, the PotW didn’t hold my interest either.

I didn’t cotton to the patient, either - she was so pale and frail, she was like a ghost. And her storyline was pretty stupid.

Is there any possibility that if House’s leg was amputated he wouldn’t suffer so? (don’t know if this was ever discussed during the run of the show.) I know about phantom limb pain, but would that be worse than the agonies he’s already living with?

I thought it was determined several seasons ago that it was in his head?

Really? Where have I been, that I didn’t know this?? I must have missed some episodes.

The episode in which a huge crane fell at a construction site, trapping a young woman, had House telling her that he needed to amputate her leg to save her life. She refused and House talked her into it by telling her that he had made the wrong decision years before and should have let them amputate because he had had nothing but pain and misery since, when he could have lived relatively pain-free as an amputee. He came to the realization at the same time he was telling her, and it was a breakthrough for him to know that he had chosen wrong. He got the woman to agree and performed the amputation, but she died on the way to the hospital anyway, I think because of a blood clot.

Yes, his pain is real, but also his pain is a part of him.

OK, the two eps I have missed lately were when 13 got out of jail and the next episode where House finds out why. Can someone let me in on the secret? It doesn’t appear to be germane to the weekly stories, it’s just bugging me.

As for last night - eh. That’s about all I’ve got. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it. I was hoping to see more of that boxer and something in the thread of “helping people with enormous potential overcome their obstacle”. I really got nothing.

Yeah - I saw what **vivalostwages **saw, and I am quite curious/dubious.

The secret of why Thirteen was in jail? She provided suicide assistance to her brother, who had Huntington’s disease, of which she also has shown symptoms. She helped him OD.

It was established in “Three Stories” during season one that House was pretty miserable before he had problems with his leg.

Thank you so much.

My husband and I agreed, after watching last night’s episode, that our feelings about “House” at this point is that it is still entertaining, but it isn’t the enthralling, excellent show that we used to enjoy. I don’t think they have many more seasons left in them - ideally, next year will be the last one and they’ll blow out all the stops.

Uh…why would getting through med school without attending a Seder be unusual?

Because so many Jews go to medical school? That’s the implication that I took away from the line.

As for this episode, my favorite part was Wilson doing his victory dance near the beginning. When he dances, he is about as big of a dork as Al Gore trying to do the Macarena!

Also: wasn’t the PotW Hoshi from Star Trek: Enterprise?

Yes. Linda Park.

'Bout the only thing redeeming in this episode is that it wasn’t heroin that he was shooting up.

And why would that guy want to blow up a picture of Linda Park in a bikini? I mean, sure she was his ex and he hated her, but blow up a photo of her in a lab coat, or a photo of her from his cell phone from the hallway, or something. Save the bikini pic.

Do a lot of Jewish people go to med school? I’ve never heard that as a stereotype which is why I found her comment odd.

The stereotype is that a lot of Jewish people become doctors.

As for whether you’d see them in med school, that depends on whether there are a lot of Jews in the geographic area of the med school. Jews make up only 2% of the US population, so they can’t have that much of a presence in all med schools.

My damn DVR always loses 30-60 seconds off the end of this show. Well, actually, I suppose it’s my damn cable company or the damn network.

What was wrong with the mouse at the end?
