I’ve been told by another Doper I have a clear, concise writing style. I know a few of my posts have amused people, but I don’t think I’m known for being funny.
One of my favorite-ever things I’ve been told was courtesy of Lightnin’, who said “You don’t curse much, but I get a feeling you could curse a blue streak.” I like to keep my powers hidden until they’re needed.
I always feel like an outsider looking in. Jokes that I write where I’m laughing to myself fall on deaf ears. I think other dopers see my posts and look for their grain of salt before continuing. I am skimmed. Sometimes blocked out of the group consciousness entirely. I will strike a homerun occasionaly, only to be forgotten. I kill threads.
I have the very odd feeling that I come across as a sort of proto-mad scientist with an utterly bizzare sense of humor.
And those of you in chat know that a good portion of how I act has to do with the just wierd/stupid stuff that happens in my life.
I don’t care to express my views very frequently or in great depth. I find that for the most part it simply isn’t worth the trouble. That’s probably why I come across to most people as distant and cold. “Unapproachable” is probably a good description of me if you were to meet me in real life.
Oh, 95% of everything doesn’t get responded to.
But hey, I’m responding to you here.

Now, for the past several posts, and since the opening of this thread I have been conducting a scientific experiment to determine just what dopers so sound like to this doper…
I have had my ear to the monitor, closely observing… and all I hear is a faint buzz…
There, now everyone knows that they sound like a faint buzz to other dopers.
Therefore, I must sound like a faint buzz as well. Pass the port decanter this way please!
F_X: I mean this in a nice way, but compared to many of the others here you certainly don’t strike me as logical / clinical/ analytical / scientific. In fact, almost the opposite. Maybe your mystery friend was flirting with you and thought that this was what you wanted to hear. I view you as almost the opposite. The word ‘flibbertigibbet’ popped to mind but has a negative connotation that I don’t intend. But it’s more in the direction of your own self-perception. Your rambling, smiley filled OP certainly points in a non-analytical direction.
For myself, perhaps “pompous” with all of the negatives would be appropriate.
Res, the truth had to come out, if only to make Fizzy feel better about mistaking you for a girl. Although I admit that I probably would have done the same (mistaking him for a girl) had I not seen a post where he mentioned being a guy. And as for publicly embarrassing you, I’m not sorry for that. Fizzy and I both decided you needed to be taken down a few pegs.

TalkingHead, I’ll have some of your port, if you don’t mind. My sister would probably say that she can’t hear the faint buzz of other dopers over the insane laughter coming from the computer room while I’m in there. I certainly don’t think so.

I really dont want to make a big deal out out of this, but I think it kinda sucks to make fun of being bipolar.
I have no way of telling what I sound like to other dopers, and I don’t want to fish around for responses.
Kyla told me I came off as real opinionated, which was a surprise and also sorta cool since I’ve always thought I came across as milquetoast.
I aim for wise and kind, although a mite bit curmudgeonish in an endearing way. I suspect I often fall short of this and come off as irrelevant, rambling, and full of myself. snort
Cranky, as I look at this great pen on my table, I have to say that you come across just fine. 
hehehe… I used it to sign stuff at school today… of course, I had a Wolverines shirt on as well… somebody did notice that I had enemy implements! I love it.
You and me, both, sister. Meaning that I often feel as though I’ve conveyed little or no personality for all the posts, and when I can best make a point it’s only in GQ where I’ve gone off and mustered some facts; OTOH, I’m sure I fail to appreciate that some readers must surely think me cranky as an old man.
Shibb, no offense taken. One of my friends told me last year that I tend to overanalyze things too much. Thinking back on what he said, I’d have to conclude that he is right, at least some of the time. (hey, if you can’t trust a good friend who you’ve known for years, who can you trust?)
I don’t think I’m a flibbertigibbet myself, or extremtly logical, etc. However, I do know that I make an effort to be kind, helpful, caring, etc. and hopefully that is what comes across. (instead of my being too paranoid, nervous, depressed, etc.)
As for Spoz and myself flirting? HAHAHAHAHAHA. No. Never in the cosmic universe. I’m still going to get him to take a look at this thread, though. Maybe he can explain why, to him, I sound like a computer program. If not… well, I did try. shrug
Fizzy, I think we should really take Res down a few more pegs, don’t you? He’s being a real bully; the things you mentioned are bad enough, but what about stealing my nose and my shoes? Not to mention tying our tongues together and plahying them like a bass guitar. Sheesh. :rolleyes:

seriously, why flirt with a computer program?
anywaze… from experience, after a few online chats with someone, I can usually pick up various ‘human’ nuances, certain verbal mannerisms, quirks… etc, which give them a more unique personality to me…
now… after talking to F_X all this time, I dunno… she seems to be a quite well guarded personality… what she expresses by ICQ… seems very controlled / concise / ordered / rational / analytical… I mean, she almost seems like a VULCAN… not betraying any kind’ve outburstian emotion…
her choice of words… seems very correct, proper… and well, lacking in the usual overflow of lunatic mispelt slang and excessive emoticons I come to expect from internet conversations…
now, I’m not saying this is a BAD thing, probably makes her somewhat more unique for being more “computeresque”… but, stilll a real puzzler…
and yes, she would seem like a female “WOODY ALLEN”…
BUT… on the flipside, I’ve noticed here on these boards… she has a somewhat different, more HUMAN personality… more loopy and erratic…
she’s human on these boards…

Actually, CRorex, you remind me of a couple people I’ve known, particularly a grad student I worked for. I’ve worked in a couple genetics labs (even though I’m in engineering), and although I’ve never approached anything nearly as nasty as what you deal with, what you say has an air of familiarity.
