Spoz, there’s only one thing I have to say after reading your reply: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Man, you are always good for a laugh, you know that? (manages to cheer me up, anyhow)
As for what you said: I can certainly tell you that I am most definitely not a Vulcan. I am not stoic, or emotionless. I’m not sure whether it is just the spellcheck on ICQ; in fact, I’d say it’s not. I know you have issues with things that are perfectly spelled (;))… or at least, in emails and such. (but I have issues with typos… now you know, if you didn’t before)
As for using excessive emoticons, you’re right. I tend not to do that… believe me, after my experiences with someone who sprinkled them liberally into his ICQ messages and emails (and who I don’t talk to anymore, for reasons explained elsewhere on this board… do a search or ask me if you’re curious), I think I’m leery of it. Somehow, I’ve never used lunatic misspelt slang much, but sometimes I do, believe it or not.
It’s true that sometimes I do put up walls / guard myself carefully until I feel like I know the person I’m talking to well enough to slowly take those defenses down. In fact, they have been down with regards to Spoz ever since… well, I don’t remember, it’s been so long. (mid-December, perhaps?)
Of course, I’m fully aware that it may not sound that way, but trust me, they are. Note to self: I should act like a total crazy goof next I see Spoz online… then we’ll see who’s the computer bot. 
Wonder what Res will say when he finds out someone actually agrees with him about my being a female Woody Allen. He’s not on to ask, otherwise I would.

Dear god, I missed the most obvious “how do you sound to other dopers”…Like A FEMALE! I don’t think my posts come accross as female, but I could see the name throwing people off.
I’ll retell the story in a quick [hijack]
NurseCarmen was a sweet lady on a local childrens program. Everybody loved her. FFWD 25 years to me playing Quake online, where local servers have the best ping rate. All these names “Killer”, “Thor”, etc. I wanted to go against the grain, so I chose the beloved Nurse as my moniker. I couldn’t imagine her fragging anyone, and it would be humiliating to be fragged by her. Name stuck. Say hello to NurseCarmen. [/hijack]

I’m not sure how I come across to people here (anyone care to clue me in?)but on another site I went to for years -buzzsaw. I know there’s at least one other sawn here!- people frequently thought I was:
a. male (until I provided pictures)
b. much, much older than I was -which I guess was sort of cool when when I 19.
In real life people never think I’m male, and most think I’m much younger than 25, looks-wise anyway. However, I’ve confused a lot of people who don’t know how old I am: they think I’m years younger but “very mature for my age.” 
What’s with the “uuuuummmm” business?
I think it’s Flami’s way of preparing me for a freak-out. Kinda like the long ride UP a roller coaster, right before they scare the pants off you.

What’d I do? I was on the road for 9 hours yesterday, and then TalkingHead and I went out for pizza.
It was the one-armed man, I tells ya.
Nobody ever tells me how I sound, but I have a hunch I come across as a doofus, since I know I don’t write well.
I know you were on the road for nine hours (or however long it takes to get from Philly to Ann Arbor), and that I believe. Going out for dinner I also believe, since I believe both you and TalkingHead. But pizza? I thought he was wanting Chinese food. In fact, I told him to go for it. Ah well, both are good.
But the one-armed man? You have got to be kidding. That’s the one part I don’t believe.

Is this thread for talking about how you think other people “hear” you, or for talking to each other about how precious and adorable you all are? Part of this thread reads like an ICQ chat.
I know I am “heard” differently from they way I “sound,” and I’ve no idea why. I know I come across as dry, misanthropic and impatient, and that’s probably 100% correct.
