How to embed pictures from imgur

Except that you can still do it from a browser. The problem only shows up when using their app to copy the link. As it stands, they’re driving people away from their app, and it’s ads, rather than to it.

This would be like if reddit didn’t want you to be able to cut and paste posts to other forums, so they disabled the quote feature on their app. All that’s going to do is send people to the browser based version of the site (and with adblockers working just fine).

Maybe. You give users far more credit than I do. IMO they want easy. They don’t want features.

But right now they have nothing. It’s difficult, if it’s even possible, to copy an image and post it somewhere else, all within the app.

Thanks for your help.

@Reply, the steps outlined above in post 18 don’t work for me. These 3 steps work for me.

  1. In Safari on iPhone, open an imgur album.

Example — https:// imgur. com/gallery/DuNwJq5
(broken with spaces)

  1. On the desired picture, tap and hold to invoke the context menu, select Copy. Do not use the forward arrow (“share”) icon.

Example — https:// i.imgur. com/vYRrdCy_d.webp?maxwidth=760&fidelity=grand
(broken with spaces)

  1. In a text editor, edit the URL as follows.

Change it from this — https:// i.imgur. com/vYRrdCy_d.webp?maxwidth=760&fidelity=grand
(broken with spaces)

Change it to this — https:// i.imgur. com/vYRrdCy_d.jpeg
(broken with spaces)

I only use the app to upload, and it’s really handy for that. I don’t think I’ve ever used the app to directly share an image. After I upload the image, I go to the image in my browser on my phone and then get the image URL from there.

Since this is about Discourse’s software, let’s move this to Site Feedback (from ATMB).

Nice car.

:+1:

It’s a 1927 Bentley 4½ Litre, at Pebble Beach last week. Quite rare.

I need to revise my steps for this process.

Here is the original photo.

Updated steps here.

(URLs broken with spaces)

Brief steps, iPhone:

  1. In the imgur app on iPhone, find an album and long press on it to invoke the context menu, and select Copy Link.
  2. In Safari on iPhone, paste the album link.
  3. Scroll to the desired picture, long press on it to invoke the context menu, select Copy.
  4. Edit the URL: insert jpeg to replace the trailing characters.

Detailed steps with examples, iPhone:

  1. In the imgur app on iPhone, find an album and long press on it to invoke the context menu, and select Copy Link.
    Example ⇨ https: //imgur. com/gallery/Pcc90bT

  2. In Safari on iPhone, paste the album link.

  3. Scroll to the desired picture, long press on it to invoke the context menu, select Copy.
    Example ⇨ https: //i.imgur. com/FFGzLxC_d.webp?maxwidth=1520&fidelity=grand

  4. Edit the URL: insert jpeg to replace the trailing characters as follows:
Change it from this ⇨ https: //i.imgur. com/FFGzLxC_d.webp?maxwidth=1520&fidelity=grand
Change it to this ⇨ https ://i.imgur. com/FFGzLxC.jpeg

  5. Here is the result.

An easy way to break links but still leave them copyable is to precede and follow them with a ` (backtick) symbol.

So your e.g. https: //imgur. com/gallery/Pcc90bT becomes https://imgur.com/gallery/Pcc90bT after I surround it with backticks then squeeze out the spaces that are no longer needed to break the url.

https://imgur.com/gallery/Pcc90bT

Thank you!

Any ideas how to make this work on an Android? I get only one URL no matter which screen I copy the URL from, and adding jpeg doesn’t help.

So here is what I do, you can try it on Android.

Do this in place of step 4:

Paste into browser address bar which then gets you a new URL for the picture itself. Don’t submit the URL (because Imgur will probably redirect you to a BS web page), instead copy what you just pasted from the address bar. That should be the direct URL for the photo.

After futzing around numerous times, Bullit’s solution just worked. Weird. I also had better luck with your solution using Chrome instead of Brave.

Thanks for all the help!

Just seeing this now. Glad it worked. I don’t have Android, only iOS.

Another imgur test.
