See, I deleted that specifically because I knew I’d phrased it badly. Let me try again…
No one who says “I’m not parochial” realizes that they may well be mistaken.

Who decided that?
So where do immaturity and unhealthy attitudes about sex come in…? And even if you just believe that she should keep that shit to herself, which in itself is reasonable, do those pictures make her a “skank,” like the OP said?
Just another Party in the USA
Well, if you are only 11 going on 12, I can see how you might be shocked.
This is a profoundly depressing thread. If you try to argue that young women – even young women in the entertainment business – should act and should be expected to act like adults and like ladies, you are a prude, an anti-feminist, and have unhealthy attitudes about sex and sexuality.
I give up.
Thank you, we appreciate you giving up on thinking that you get to define “adult” and “ladylike” behavior.
Hear hear!
yeah I wrote that in a stupid way.
DiorBellisima - no one decided that. It’s just MY opinion that’s it not particularly wonderful to talk about (what up until recentely were) private parts in public. Just as it seems to be everyone else’s opinion that she’s just being wonderfully free and open about her sexuality. I have a very different opinion, but apparently I’m in the minority. That’s ok.
and I’m not trying to tell anyone else what to do - I thought we could have a free exchange of ideas here. My opinions on her behavior differ from yours. that’s all.
Hi a35362 - apparently we live on the same planet.
She’s a cigarette smoker too! In 2012 America that alone is enough to warrant serious skank points!

Indeed. I was promised tawdriness; all I got was tackiness.
I get that you disagree with public displays of sexuality (I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your views aren’t restricted to female sexuality), but you have yet to explain why one would assume her attitude toward sex is immature or unhealthy.
Good. Regardless of whether a person is a woman, young, or in the entertainment business, he or she should be able to have fun at a flipping birthday party and mess around with sexually suggestive images without pointless judgment from people whose business it isn’t.
By the way, a reasonable exchange of ideas isn’t really engendered by the use of demeaning and judgmental terms like “skank.”
I don’t think mature people need to have penis cakes (ooh it’s shaped like a dick! hee hee) or need to talk about their partners penises or breasts or vulvae or assholes or whatever.
Miley’s previous pole dancing and recent slutty costumes present to me an unhealthy attitude toward sex. Liberated women to not have to look or act like slutty whores to be sexually free.
I could go on but I really don’t think I’ll change any minds and I’ve already expressed my opinion.
Mature people choose to have all kinds of fun when they’re relaxing with their friends at a party. They might even giggle over organ-shaped desserts. It has nothing to do with maturity.
you probably have a good point, ascenray. Still think it was poor judgment to have pix go far and wide. If it was for a small group of friends, you’re right, I’m not gonna judge. I’m judging what’s been put out in the media. (if I’m judging at all; really just responding to comments in this thread more than judging).
I’d counter that mature people don’t pass judgment on the way other people celebrate their birthdays or their relationships, nor do they get their nips in a twist because somewhere there’s a penis that’s not being hidden or blushed at. Besides, it’s a dude’s birthday cake and your link says nowhere that Miley was actually responsible for it, so why single her out for classlessness? Or is it somehow more appropriate for her boyfriend to be doing these same things?
For that matter, are you saying that pole dancing implies an unhealthy attitude about sex, and that doing it makes someone a “slutty whore”? Do you have any idea how sexist that is?
I agree.
I tried to instill in my daughter a healthy altitude about sex.
She turned into a prude.
Oh well…whatever ![]()
One last comment - yes I’ve seen pole dancing. and yes the person doing it always looks like they are selling sex.
and no I’m noty sexist. you don’t know me, punch line loser, so you don’t have to believe me.
Because clearly liberated women only express their sexuality in ways you approve of.
Oh, wait…
I think you’re unclear on the definitions of at least one or two of the highlighted words, because strung together in that manner, they make no sense at all.
