And while I don’t agree that ALL teenage girls do things like this, many do, and some are worse. This is within the spectrum of normal for eighteen.
What’s disappointing is that she lives in a fishbowl. Her Facebook pictures become celebrity gossip. It would be “nice” if she had chosen a path of discretion and class under those circumstances (i.e. Emma Watson). But she didn’t. She’s a grown up, she gets to make those choices.
“Hack musician” is a pretty respectable profession from my point of view. It takes a certain amount of skill and discipline.
As for your opinion of the quality of Billy Ray’s hit record, that’s really just a matter of taste. You could say the same thing about 80 percent of hit records. The point is that he has had a certain degree of success in show business.
The point is that the Cyruses aren’t the Lohans or the Spearses, lowlife trash who have “lucked into” having a daughter whose talent they can bank and take advantage of that to indulge their addictions and make spectacles of themselves. Entertainment is more like a family business.

Your point is well taken, and don’t get me wrong; despite my opinion of the song I don’t begrudge Billy Ray his success. I don’t think the Cyruses are bad people or that they’re using or exploiting their daughter. And I have no problem with a 19-year-old adult occasionally acting in a sexual manner.
It just amuses me that despite being filthy rich, this is a family of complete and utter rednecks, and they’re not shy about it. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, it just tickles me in a Jethro Clampett sort of way.

I agree with this. Child stars’ lives tend to be heavily managed. They’re told where to be and when, they’re told what to do and when to do it, and they’re not given a whole lot of choice in the matter. They spend a lot of time on-set, away from peers who can teach and reinforce proper behavior, and with adults whose livelihoods rely on the child’s continued employment. They also get a lot of media attention, as well as attention from fans, so their image has to be carefully managed. And when they turn 18, they get control of their own money, and there may be a lot of it. All of this leads to life in a bubble. So it’s not surprising that there would be some heavy-duty rebellion.
