No, I guess that is the one for today.
Re: Questionable Content
So how much is Marigold making that Hanners thinks is a lot? Her parents are billionaires…
Brian
I think Marigold still understand what is a lot lot for people on Earth’s surface.
This may be a generational thing but I’m having trouble relating to the story lines involving Clair’s mother and Marigold’s streaming. Which is an odd thing to say consider we’ve got a strip where people can get AI companions, there are AI/human romances, and there’s a space station orbiting Earth owned by a billionaire.
And I got to admit, I thought the whole MommyMilkers situation was a little TMI for Clinton. I would not want my mother springing something like that on me.
It’s not generational, the strip hasn’t been doing any real arcs lately and it’s boring. Just one-off stuff like mommy milkers or tedious stuff like Thai/Dora’s wedding, or equally tedious and one-off Shitty Dan and Renee.
The streamer thing feels like Jeph’s fantasy of how he wishes streaming worked (turn on camera and make a lol avatar so no one knows who you are and a sack of money falls into your lap) instead of how it actually works. It’s his fantasy world, of course, but it pings the same way as if May suddenly said she was a millionaire from working at the convenience store or people started going to the dentist for tattoos (without there being a specific story about a special dentist, etc). You can write whatever you want but it doesn’t feel authentic.
Plus I just don’t give enough of a shit about streamers to want to move through two story lines about them.
Well, I guess I’m glad we’re getting to know Aurelia a little. I mean, she fucks men her son’s age, plays five string bass through a huge stack, smokes pot casually, and does sexually suggestive cosplay streaming. There’s got to be a better storyline in there somewhere. Maybe her and Marten’s mom will become besties/worsties.
Got to say I agree with this sentiment. I continue reading it more out of habit than out of pleasure, sadly.
Man, four days into this arc before I figured out that’s Pintsize in a new body, and not Winslowe acting super out of character.
I know, right?
I’m wondering why in the earlier strip he plugged a USB-C cable from his crotch to his ear to call May.
He was already pulling that out to charge or something.
Since the expense of bodies have been some major plot points in the past, I’m wondering if it’s going to get into how he got the funds.
I’m not. The QC economy doesn’t bear close casual hell any examination.
I may be forgetting something, but wasn’t Pintsize’s chassis actually a military-type prototype that wasn’t supposed to be available to the general public?
Or did that get resolved? If not, I’m wondering how much trouble its current whereabouts and eventual disposition are going to cause.
It was accidentally sold to Marten. The Feds wanted the chassis back, but settled for taking his laser away from him.
I read the new comments in this thread and in the Order of the Stick thread back to back. Then I clicked on the link to that old QC strip. And I had an epiphany.
Jeph Jacques has sought to develop as a webcomic creator over the years by improving his art. And Rich Burlew has sought to develop as a webcomic creator over the years by improving his writing.
Well, Burlew did have his “art jump” between the two books but I largely agree with you. I’m not sure if I could chronologically place a couple script-only strips from QC’s run (without plot context clues) but I think OotS has definitely become better reading as the years have gone by. And, while QC’s art isn’t anything outstanding, I was scrolling back the other day trying to find something and it’s better than it was even a year ago, much less the eyeball-painful early days.
Heh. Figures Milholland would run with the joke.
Okay, new question. Based on yesterday’s strip.
I’m not going to ask why an android would wear underwear. I’m just assuming they have chosen to emulate humans.
But why was Roko willing to look at Beeps when she was in her underwear holding the dress but then averting her eyes when Beeps was putting on the dress? It seems like somebody would do it the other way around.
I didn’t see that as her not looking at Beepatrice, I see that as her doing a “Downloading some data from the cloud” gesture while she was looking up the bar.
