I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

Thank you, I was wondering about that myself. I thought it had something to do with Clinton’s artificial hand.

Lord, Claire’s not going to actually work for this cloud cookoolander, is she?

I’m very much hoping that this is setting up for her not taking the job. Sure, she may not reject it right away, as it would be in character for Claire to make an excuse and then get very anxious about it. Ultimately, it would tie back into the “prioritize your needs” statement. She’ll wind up taking a job that pays less, but isn’t so utterly doomed to failure.

What they need is far beyond what any librarian could do. As Claire indicates, they need an information science department.

I don’t know. Jeph likes creating quirky AI characters, and this woul allow him a whole new set.

Where the hell are this woman’s clothes?

I feel like maybe she’s too sticky for clothes.

So after the singularity the AI will be reliant on humans for effective data organization?

If Cubetown’s the standard for effective data organization, then God help us all.

I suspect Cubetown is like Starfleet, a busywork project for some of the worst of the kooks and crazies, to distract them while Section 23AIs like Spooky and Station gets on with the real work of running things.

Seems it would be an interesting flip — for Claire to tell Clinton that Cubetown flunked the interview.

It took an embarrassing number of days to realize that that’s the webcam ‘whirring’ in front of her. I thought little robots were just continuously going back and forth.

I was thinking along the same lines, except it’s not a project to keep kooky AIs busy, it’s a project to help humans feel like they’re helping with something important, even though we don’t really have anything useful to offer.

I hope Claire takes this job because this is a lot of lolquirky android to read just to say no.

Reminds me of a job interview I had at a lead acid battery factory. I was applying to be a maintenance technician but it quickly became apparent what they needed was more like a planner or engineer after I started talking about my experience with planned maintenance systems and they were like “Aw yeah that sounds good you should set one of those up for us.”

I later got a job at a much more competent company that already knew about planned maintenance and where my duties are geared more toward “perform this maintenance” than “design a maintenance program for this equipment.” I also make nearly twice as much as that battery factory was offering. In conclusion: Claire should absolutely not take a department head position, tasked with setting up a new department, right out of college.

OMG, this interview is a train wreck. So’s the interviewer. She? makes Melon look calm and professional.

Of course, Clairey Sue needn’t worry. She’s the Creator’s Pet character, he’ll pull as many Deus Ex Machinas as needed from the exit end of his digestive tract to ensure her glorious triumph.

actually, this set up my theory… I mean who are the 3 librarians? Marten Tai and claire … If she takes the job whos is she going to ask for help I mean The only experienced one is tai dora goes along and makes a company coffee thing hence Hanners and Faye inherit the strip with the coffee shop going to hanners

I think “Marten and Claire go to the cube farm with some other characters for a while” would make for a fun story line, and certainly shake things out of the status quo that has existed for the last few years.

And for what it’s worth, I think the strip is doing a fairly good job of implying that Claire is making a very rash decision.

Yes, kind of like the visit-to-Station storyline - fun, but nothing permanent.

Jeph really needs to work on his story arcs. Maybe Marigold could shop for a house and buy one shaped like maneki-neko inhabited by kawaii kami with giant foam swords?

Naw, that’s like 3 strips maybe.

Well, right now it’s just a visit. If she’s smart, she’ll turn down the job. But to be honest, it’s not as if employers are breaking her door down right now. That could cause her to do something that she’ll regret.

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!
