I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

I loved the animated Gif: Questionable Content

I was going to comment on this. I usually dig out QC on my iPhone in the morning, and just the other day added its RSS feed to my reader. I went through the last couple strips, and saw that. Are there any others Jeph has done before?

I don’t see that happening. I think Jacques got tired of having Marten in a relationship so he ended it. If so, there’s little reason he’d jump into another story arc like that. If he wants to do stories about budding relationships, he’s got Faye and Angus. He’s also got Steve and Cosette and Penelope and Will as back-up (and Marigold and Dale on deck).

I agree with Nemo. And why the constant focus on dating? It’d be a far more interesting arch if Marten and Hanners just became really close friends (bonding over music, not being in a relationship, anthroPCs, etc.) - that would give the Hanners/Faye dynamic a complete twist, as Faye feels her relationship with Marten is threatened by another serious female friend entering Marten’s life. Plus, Jeph would get a kick out of it, because he hates all the shippers out there that insist every relationship must ultimately result in sex.

Marten/Hanners can be rejected not just on the metastory level, but in-universe as well - Marten clearly views her more as a sister than anything else. Plus I’m pretty sure at this point he’s not willing to put up with Hanners’ level of neuroses on a romantic level, and would know that, and he’s not willing to inflict HIS shit on someone else.

He’s had years to develop his characters at this point. I like the comic because it’s clever, but I don’t really grok some of the pairings. I never really got the Faye-Anybody thing. She actively repels people away from herself, and she really does not seem like the kind of person anyone would want to cuddle up to, but the boys keep coming on an assembly line like flies to sugar.

My real issue with Marten, in all of comics I can’t recall a more supine, passive, borderline worm who was the main protagonist of the series. He’s not actively unlikable, but he’s so unassertive and deferent you get to feel he’s really just a shell of a person.

The weird thing is that I know a woman like that in real life. Utter ice-queen/bitch who shies away from interpersonal relationships, but because she’s pretty, any male within a ten-mile radius tries to get in her pants. I think it’s a matter of ignoring what you actually see for what you wish was there. Faye’s not that bad of a person. I appreciate a little snarkiness in my friends, but I am tired of the “I have issues, so I’m allowed to be a douche” Freudian excuse.

So it seems like Momo will get a new chassis.

I’m wondering what the design of the new chassis will be. Maybe it’ll be full-sized?

(And can someone dig up the comic where Momo dreams about a full-size chassis to hit on Sven?)

Ah, here it is.

(edit time expired)

I like the signs on the walls of the AI store: “Guaranteed not to go insane and kill your loved ones.” A Suspiciously Specific Denial.

Huh. I like the notion in that older comic that even as a full-size model, Momo still had anime eyes like her smaller self. Compare to Sven in that comic. It’s a shame Jeph seems to have dropped that idea in the current strip.

I’m confused. We haven’t seen Momo’s new chassis yet. How do you know he’s dropped that idea?

I’m going to guess because none of the human-size models we see in the store have anime eyes.

And the sales person herself is an AnthroPC with non-anime eyes. Compare to Momo’s on Marigold’s shoulder (except last panel, where she’s all shocked and has tiny eyes to show that).

For all we know the chassis we saw in #1658 may be the Mitsubishi PX-3500 with dual ERPPCs and six medium lasers.

It does have some… upgrades. Twin-turbo, as it were. ;>

Why are we assuming she’s going to end up in one of those chassis?

I certainly wasn’t. I was commenting on the art style of the anthro sales lady vs Momo’s daydream in another strip.

But their eyes are closed.

I’m not sure if this is the intent of the art, but it looked like in #2000 that as Momo’s “essence” entered the new chassis that the hair went from dull to hot pink. Half-way in #2000 (process halted by virus), then all the way in #2001 today. Nice touch, if it wasn’t just the “lighting”. No anime eyes except in panel 5, sigh.

So Momo is now a teenage girl in appearance – how long till someone in-comic hits on her? Is Marigold’s “Mom” role now way expanded? I bet she ends up dating (or decking) that dweebie robo-fanboy that was annoying Hannelore not that long ago.

I like the “I make humidity FUN!” appliance in the final panel. Nice.
