I don't quite get today's "Questionable Content" strip

There are two big reasons for this.

snerk

If the last strip is anything to go by, she looks like a very YOUNG teenager. With no indication to the casual observer that she’s an anthro-pc. I can see no possible way in which this could go badly.

Which would be a pity, because this may be Marigold’s first documented case of considering someone else’s desires proactively, instead of reacting to them once they’ve been pointed out to her by a third party.

I suppose Momo should be grateful that her USB jack is in her ear, instead of the Handmaid May configuration . . .

I’m not getting what’s surprising re:Faye’s love life. Attractive, smart, funny people get forgiven for a fairly high level of ‘being a jerk’ under default circumstances. On top of that, she has economics in her favor, there being considerably more single male indie kid/hipsters than female.

So how come Momo’s new chassis doesn’t have visible connections at the points of articulation like (as far as I can see) EVERY other chassis in the store, including the salesbots?

Different model? Jeph forgot? Or maybe “forgot,” fully intending to make Momo look human.

Marigold should really get her nose checked.

Presumably it’s more expensive, deluxe model. Designed to actually look like a person, rather than a robot. Not an uncommon theme in sf (particularly anime) with androids.

Not really practical, but designed for scifi fans. And perverts.

And perverts who are scifi fans . . .

That’s Pervect.

Wait until PintSize sees the new Momo.

As an aside, I used to work with a guy who had tattooed articulation points over all of his joints (at least, the ones visible on a guy in a t-shirt and shorts), with “seam” lines connecting all of them. Interesting guy. I had to respect his dedication to a theme.

Not every other one. If you look in the third panel of 2001, you’ll see the chassis on the shelf to the right has no visible joints. And it’s not an error - you’ll see the same chassis in 2000. So it appears it’s just a feature on some models (and I assume Jacques didn’t want to commit himself to drawing joint lines on all future drawings of Momo).

Where she’s really only 2.7 years old.

How do you mean? I understand how Marigold is a bit unaware, but how does a young teenage Momo change/not change that mix?

I miss that series. Well, not really as the last few outings were particularly bad. I did like when he wrote from the perspective of the other characters.

Marigold could have been oblivious to Momo’s real desire for a new chassis (and it was hinted at by the way Marigold blew her off before sleeping), but she figured it out and took Momo to get a new chassis on her own initiative. That’s pretty good for a shut-in asocial nerd, believe me.

The Foglios (the Girl Genius team) did a comic adaptation that ran for the last year on their site. I actually hadn’t read the books before then.

But, sorry, little OT.

New Momo looks way too adorable and huggable.

Robert Asprin is no longer writing them, as he died in 2008. Jody Lynn Nye is now the sole author of the Myth series (two of which have been commissioned by Ace Books at this point).

I didn’t know that. After the first two Phule books, his writing took a nosedive (of course IMNSHO) and I just stopped following him.

It COULD have been a mistake. I used to draw a webcomic myself, and I would not at all be surprised if Jeph drew that background once and then kept pasting it in.

Apparently the New Momo is not the forgiving sort. Although I’m sure Pintsize had it coming (doesn’t he always?).

I can’t say I’m a fan of this or the previous animated panel that Jeph did. It’s annoying to look at 2-frame animations for more than 1 iteration. I hope this is just a phase Jeph is going through.

Not the Foglios, just Phil. Before he met Kaja (who was something like 14 when the comic was originally published in the mid-80s).

I really enjoy them, personally. But then, I’m something of a fiend for (modern) animated GIFs - to me, the repetition is part of what makes them so funny. It’s why this article is the funniest thing I’ve seen all year.
