Morning all. Mrs W had a work function in the East Bay last night and stayed overnight. I got a little bit drunk, watched a James Bond movie, and tried not to think about house stuff. It was nice.
We are both very honest about our mutual need to be away from each other every once in a while. And she enjoys hotels. It’s a win-win.
I usually sleep quite well when she’s not here, but I didn’t last night for some reason. No biggie though; today is my Sunday, and I have nothing planned except a load of laundry, which is already spinning. Slothage shall be the order of the day.
Morning, mumpers! Today we are in sunny Portland where it is currently sunny although I am warned that there are showers coming. We are collecting a car and heading off to Hood River with, hopefully, some scenic stops along the way.
I have read much but retained little! I think the appropriate message today is hugs all round!
Welcome to our city (for a couple more months, anyway)! There are always showers coming. You could take the “fruit loop” out of Hood River and drive around Mt. Hood. Perhaps visit Timberline Lodge while you’re there; it’s a beautiful historic building built by the CCC during the Depression.
So, this is my third day in the office this week and I am not amused. A co-worker and I are doing The Scan Job From Hell. Two large boxes, chock full of aircraft maintenance records, and full of the following originals:
Single-sided & double-sided
Color and black & white
Letter size & legal size
Stapled
Folded & stapled
Documents folded up & stapled to the backs of other documents
Binders with every single document in its own plastic sleeve
A set of approximately 100 folders where each folder has to be a separate document (and said folders are just chock full of the above assortment)
The original plan was to send it to an outside copy/scan service until someone decided it needed to be done as cheaply as possible (which really means “free” because we peons can’t bill our time for this). And to top it all off, the deadline was moved up from April 18 to April 13.
And we may be getting more boxes of the same. &*^%$#!(%^
I am very cranky right now and very grateful that it’s Friday.
I’m once again getting paid to wait. I have 1 paint note to do, but I can’t be onstage during rehearsal. The theoretical break in rehearsal started 2 minutes ago, but they’re still out there. I’ve been waiting for 2 hours.
I desperately need to do this. My keyboard is very screwed up. I just can’t fathom doing without my computer. I just need to take the plunge.
taters I’m glad you have a day off. Sleeping until 6 sounds like a late start for you. It’s nice to hear that Polar is still going strong. Enjoy your sloth!
Wheelie A friend of mine used to call it “Going over the wall” when his wife was away. He never did anything outrageous, but I suspect they both enjoyed having some “me” time.
Boo Fae Enjoy the Portland sun. There is no guarantee of such a thing in April.
Bumba That’s the museum with the Stonehenge replica! I’ve been meaning to go there. I think they also have some Native American items. If anyone reads Patricia Briggs, the museum is featured in one of her books.
They have a very good restaurant with absolutely no dress code. I recommend it. I also recommend the Lodge. It’s a very easy drive. The views are amazing, and there are some easy (and hard) hikes.
Miss Owl I’m sorry about the scanning. It sounds awful.
VanGo Do you have a book you can read on their time?
In a few minutes, we’ll head over to put down a deposit on a lot. I am a tad freaked out and also excited. After that I have big plans for a nap.
‘Lunch’ today was 2.88 miles, averaging 3 mph according to MapMyWalk. WoofTrax clocked me slightly slower, but I started it first and ‘officially’ started walking on MMW.
I took a different route today. Instead of going around the park, I just went down one side and went down to Shitsnapper – I mean Shintaffer – to get to the beach.
Afternoon all. Swimmin’ has been swum and sauna has been sweat. Gym has private showers so I can clean up nicely after this. Saving money on my water bills for bathing since I’m scrubbing myself so nicely during the day.
Sunny, I’ll be in Portland 15-16 May, want to see the Spruce Goose down in McMinnville and maybe (weather permitting) Mount St. Helen’s. Have to look into that Timberline Lodge. Just noted cookie suggested it first.
OW, that sounds like some miserable, repetitive work and I hope you and co-worker can handle it.
Wheelie, it says much for your relationship that you budget time apart as well as time together. Sounds pretty healthy to me.
OK, need to see if the soccer fields are open (it’s only 46F and clouds are thick about us). Take care all.
Old Wench, that scan job sounds like a nightmare. When you said you can’t bill your time, does that mean you aren’t even getting paid? Or not paid overtime?
My daughter met with Roxy’s teacher today - she’s doing really well. Way ahead of her age group academically, lots of friends, generally thriving. They got a new girl in class and Roxy has taken her under her wing and is helping her out. Getting her in the preschool was one of the best investments we could have made. I can see her teaching her brother in the coming months and years - she loves playing teacher!
No more kids now till Moanday. They’re a lot of fun but I need a break. There’s a chance of rain tomorrow afternoon, but with luck I can get some yard work done before it moves it. We shall see. Or I can put it off till Sunday. Whatever…
Oh, I’m paid as usual, just worked my regular hours. I’m a secretary but if a paralegal had done it, she would have had to account for her time and it would have gone on the client’s bill unless the lawyer wrote it off.
Howdy Y’all! Guess what! We were productive today! I’ll wait while you all clutch pearls, fall onto faintin’ couches and are revived with the smellin’ salts. OK. Is everyone recovered now? I saw this mornin’ that the county landfill was havin’ a get rid of junk for free day, so we loaded up twuck with junk that needed to be got rid of and off to the landfill we went to get rid of said junk. Then, we spent a couple of hours workin’ on the cee-mint pond when we got back to da cave. Oh and I got my ‘scripts refilled. Plus, since I was goin’ to be near the Cap’n D’s place, I picked up sup cause I’m all nice like that. Of course, we will now have to sloth in earnest tomorrow to make up for today.
I’m done! Today I drove down to the venue and did some last minute repairs/touch-ups/ “Oh hay can you add this?” items and am now done! Here are some pics
It was still in mad chaos technical rehearsal mode, so I’m hoping to get some better pics from the actual event, but no way in hell am I going to that thing.
It was a chilly morning at the park, I had to clean ice off my windshield. I didn’t wear toe warmers. My feet would have been okay if I hadn’t walked out in the wet grass to pick up poop that I couldn’t find anyway. My dogs almost always go back in the leaves, looking for brown poop in the middle of brown leaves is futile. Echo usually goes back behind the fir trees; I don’t even try to get back there.
Barky came this morning.
Made two phone calls this morning, they went better than expected.
The brats were being bratty. I was on an irk call when I heard Ripple barking his fool head off. My son went running to see what the problem was and came back all breathless, pointing at the door and trying to pantomime what was going on.
I had no clue.
I got off the phone and went to check on the dogs, the dumbasses followed a cat under the deck and got stuck under there. They were out by the time I got there, but he said Ripple got scratched in the face a few times by the cat, but managed to crawl out. Echo was screaming bloody murder under the deck but finally half-crawled, half-dug herself out.
In the meantime, the cat took off over the fence.
Every time they go back outside, they try to get under the deck again.
I told Adam to stop bringing friends home. There are always cats in the back yard.
New people moved in across the street.
I hope they are the quiet type.
Congrats Ooopsie on the weight loss.
Wheelie, the very thought of having to pick out stuff for a new house makes my head hurt.
Just got back from signing the contract on the lot. They want us to sign the contract ASAP, so that we can make the deadline to pick out the cabinets and a few other bits. The deadline for that is the 14th. This is fine in theory, but our mortgage person is out on vacation until the 18th. I’m not quite sure how I get myself into these situations, but there’s no question that I do so I accept this fact about my reality.
We caught up on Slow Horses last night, so I guess we’ll be looking for something else to watch tonight. Decisions, decisions.
I got more done today than the usual sloth. I took out the garbage, a once a week chore, then did my laundry. Took a shower, then walked Mauser. I delivered a death certificate to the realtor. It was for my sister, whose name was, along with us other two sisters, on Mom’s house title. Did grocery shopping AND put it away when I got home. For me this took about four hours, and it’s way more than my usual laziness. I try to model my retirement on that of swampbear. Tomorrow I’m going to finish sorting through Mom’s picture albums, to get the ones I want. This takes longer than expected, because of looking at all the memories.
flyboy, can you back your files up on your network drive? That’s what I do at irk. Home, it’s the cloud.
My sympathies on the scan from hell OW. Lord knows that those could drive one to drink (and for some of us, it’s a short walk).
Nice job VanGo!
Got the groceries bought, laundry, houseirk and taxes done. I have come to the conclusion that I will never again attempt to order from anyplace called Camino Real (or for that matter, Golden Dragon) online. I thought I was ordering from the place two doors down from H&R Block, but turned out on the SE side of the 'Boro, 23 miles away. Fortunately, I discovered the error in time to call and cancel the order. Since the Camino Real that I wanted to order from had a 25 minute wait time, I hit the drive thru at Panera’s and had a less than spectacular pick 2 (the damn sandwich had horseradish on it. I scraped it off, but could still taste it. Even Nelson didn’t want a second bite.).
I need to soak some black beans tonight for tomorrow. My heathen group will be meeting in person for the first time in 2 years Sunday, so the usual Sunday chores will be moved to tomorrow, including making something for Sunday’s potluck and pulling out the kid craft and book. I’m excited.
