I Resolve To Start The New Year MMP

Hugs to you butters.

Happy new year!

Black eyed peas are in the crock and the turnip greens will be in the small crock shortly.

I have a marketplace buy at 11, so not completely indoors today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. We’re celebrating the first day of 2022 here in N. Ali-bama with 70F temperatures and the threat of heavy thunderstorms with a chance of tornadoes this afternoon and evening. That’s bringing in the new year with a Bang. Nothing planned for today, anyway, so will read, TV, and watch the weather reports and listen to see if the emergency siren goes off (if it does, I head close to my hidey-hole).

FCM, up around 6am today, but went to bed early (heard very few fireworks) but I agree there is nothing much better than one’s own bed. Safe driving.

flyboy, interesting way to celebrate the New Year. Hope it helps.

OK, onward into the day. All y’all take care.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s 69 and drizzly, but I did manage to drag “Princess Pretty Paws” out for a pee break.

The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Pink Floyd, “Time”

Tradition says you’re not supposed to clean or do laundry on New Year’s Day so you don’t wash away the luck. So I’m not. And I’ve got my black eyed peas and collards for dinner today. And considering the last 2 years, if I could find a chicken, I’d sacrifice it. :rooster:

Afternoon, and happy new year all.

Party wound up being a bit more partyiferous than expected, though I was all sober, sensible and driving. I didn’t get back until about 2 in the morning- practically time to get up for some of youse. I didn’t get out of bed til about 11, which is probably practically bedtime.

Plans for the day are mainly sitting in writing essays again; I have a bit of a backlog of them due in January, as I didn’t get quite as much done as I’d hoped over the break. It’s the problem of having to research on the internet, meaning I’m on the internet, which is effectively infinite distractions… Progress is being made though. They’ll get done.

Way-ull… Happy New Year.

Mrs. L.A. went to bed at 22:00. At 23:00 I said to myself, ‘Screw it. I’m going to bed.’ With all of the snow and the severed main road to the freeway, there were very few fireworks. No point in staying up.

I think I mentioned the supermarket didn’t have ham hocks, so I got smoked ham shanks. A ham shank and black-eyed peas are in the slow cooker, where they’ll simmer for the next six or eight hours. The other shank is simmering on the stove for the collard greens later.

There’s usually a lot of stock in the beans. I should get a couple of cups when the beans are done and add some shredded jack cheese to it. Then we can have jack in the bean stock.

Good morning and happy new year to all of you.

Happy belated birthday wishes to you, Baker.

I dozed off and woke up again around 10:30, so I was awake to bring the new year. I raised my glass of plantation pineapple rum and coke, took a drink, and hoped for a better year for everyone. The fireworks started at 12:00 died down and then started back up at 12:30 am.

It’s still cold, but they say it’s going to warm up and rain. The problem with that is it’s still cold enough on the ground that come Sunday (when the rain is supposed to arrive), that it will freeze over on Sunday night through Monday morning. That is going to be one treacherous commute. I am supposed to head to the office on Monday, but if the roads are crap, I will push off the day to another day.

I made lots of stock and soup yesterday and we enjoyed a nice hearty bowl of prime rib soup for dinner.

I am working some more on my puzzle today and I’m sure there are pieces missing, but we will see.
This is a brand new puzzle too, so I am slightly peeved but I am hoping I’m wrong. The pieces that are missing are EDGE pieces and there really aren’t that many pieces left to put together. I am hoping I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.

I’ll also do some general tidying up, work on putting Christmas away, and tomorrow I’ll do laundry.

I hope everyone stays safe, warm, dry, or doesn’t blow away.

I’d like a Jolly Green Giant bowl of that, please.

Jolly Green Giant reminds me of green peas. Personally, I prefer freshly-picked peas. I like the taste of the farm freshness and the green peaness.

There’s an icicle over two feet long on the corner of the house. I said to Wifey, ‘That icicle on the corner of the house is pretty big. It would make a helluva murder weapon.’ She laughed in an ‘I can’t believe you think that way’ sort of way.

Did another brisket yesterday. Told the Big Boys that I wanted to do one all by myself, so they could check my work.

… and they respected that.

Took me a solid hour - since I work the drive-thru headset and had to keep stopping, because, yanno, customers and such - but they left my brisket alone for me.

“Not bad, better than So-and-so first brisket.”

So I felt triumphant, and frankly, quite proud of myself.

It’s not much, but it’s something.

Good on you, shoe. I’d have some if’n your brisket place were nearby.

I didn’t make it to midnight. I went to bed before, but I was awake as the fireworks around went off. Then I snored some more.

Next year we can all go for brisket with purplehorseshoe.

Yeah, well, tradition won’t be here when I run out of clean underwear, so laundry day it is! :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re back. There’s a load of jeans in the washer. I’ve got a pot of bean soup started - the beans have boiled for 2 minutes, and now they have to sit for an hour before I add the ham and onions and probably something else - I don’t have the recipe memorized. Timers are set, giving me a little time to chill.

It poured all the way to Oxford, it poured while we were there, it rained all the way home, altho the intensity gradually decreased, and now it’s not raining. But we’ll get more later. Not that it’ll affect us - we’re in for the day. We poked around and figured out a few more things about the boat. We took pics of electrical panels and controls. We talked about some stuff, then we closed it back up, folded the ladder, and came home.

And the neighbor’s dog was in our yard again and it attacked Higgs. That’s the 3rd time… I don’t know how that dog keeps getting in here, but we’re going to have to have words with Ben. Dammit.

Ditto from me!:partying_face::confetti_ball::tada::clinking_glasses::champagne::confetti_ball::tada::partying_face:

Fireworks were horrid here also, til about 3am. The cats were hiding under my bed. Now we are in a winter storm advisory and it’s snowing. Parking ban, the whole bit. Very, very cold.

Thanks for all the encouraging words for my roomie. Firing someone NYEve Eve is cruel~when it spans over the weekend it is days before any state workers are in an office to take Unemployment or Food Stamps applications.

Hunkered down with my afghan, ipad and hot coffee, trying to ignore the snowy gusts outside the windows. Leaving my electric mattress pad on all day so I can crawl into bed as needed. Cats will join me.

Happy New Year, mumpers! You’re the very best!!

Afternoon all. Big storms are due in a couple of hours, so may take a nap soon so I won;t be interrupted by thunder and lightning. Red’s probably going to get hit too, looks like a wide-ranging storm front. Still, It’s 78F on New Year’s day, which ain’t bad.

FCM, hope Higgs is OK. And darn right you need to speak to the neighbor; it’s his dog, he needs to make it his problem.

Shoe, always a good feeling when you solo for the first time.

flyboy, keep those comments up and she’ll be calling the cops…

OK, nappage awaits. All y’all take care.

78 degrees, I have the windows open, I have a cold beer in my hand, and a warm cat on my lap. Life is good.

“Poor planning on your part does constitute an emergency on mine” :stuck_out_tongue:
This is why I have a month’s worth of underoos.

Oh drat. Despite everyone being fully vaxed (some almost overly so, due to being from assorted countries with different requirements to the UK, so got multiple complete courses) and everyone testing negative before the NYE party, apparently someone there got a positive test today  : I’ll be taking a test in the morning, seeing as there’s not much point doing it tonight as I’m not going anywhere but bed either way, and it should be more accurate then.

Glad I still had a box o’tests left, I’m all stocked up for shopping, and I don’t have to go anywhere for a few weeks.

Happy new year, mumpers! I hope 2022 brings you nothing but love, joy and good things

Mine got off to a ropey start…we had a good night out seeing Doug Stanhope who was as inappropriately funny as we had hoped. Walked back through Fremont Street just before midnight so hung around to watch the fireworks before going back to the hotel for a drink and a film.

The gig we had based our entire trip around has been cancelled due to a member of the band testing positive for covid so the first two shows were pulled. The next one is the day we fly home so we can’t make it. I will get a refund on most of the ticket costs so that softens the blow a bit. And I have had a sore throat and snuffly nose too which is a concern. Fortunately I packed a box of lateral flow tests so I did one this morning which was negative so I know it’s just a cold.

Onwards then…we have to book video appointments for pre-flight LFTs before finishing our VeriFly stuff, and work it where we get picked up for a trip to Mt Charleston in a couple of days time.

Stay well and stay safe!

Howdy Y’all! A silly good time was had by all here at da cave. We had our NYD black-eyed peas and collard greens plus other foodstuffs. JDD and Partner left and then I made a batch of Cheese Thangs for the church Epiphany party tomorrow evenin’. Now I shall chill.

I have read all, but retention skills are minimal right now, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

Yay for the solo brisket shoe!

I hope that Higgs didn’t get hurt Mooooooom. This really does need to be your neighbor’s problem.

metal mouse, we got rain and some wind, but not a really big storm.

My new year is off to a bad start, despite the black eyed peas and turnip greens. I got in to go pick up a Marketplace buy and 5 miles up the road, the check engine light came on and it was running roughly at under 2K RPMs. It did this when I left Houston but straightened right out when I stopped for gas on the north side. I figured a bad tank of gas. Last night, when I was coming back from picking up supper, it did the same thing. It had a bit more than a quarter tank of gas, so I bought more and it straightened out again. Today, more of the same with a full tank. Monday, I’ll call the dealership. Oy vey!
