With the new skin and the avatars, the page looks like crap. And, the user names of those who don’t have avatars doesn’t line up with those who do. And, the extra whitespace between the avatar and the user name makes it even worse.

I haven’t seen an answer yet, so I’ll ask again: Wasn’t the default going to be that we wouldn’t see them?

One beneficial side effect is that a certain proportion of trollish socks will self-identify with an inappropriate image.

No one in charge said that, just some of us members that were conjecturing about what they could do. Besides, in turning on avatars you probably want them on by default to give the board the least bit of a non-2000 look for those visiting for the first time.

I’m probably going to turn off the viewing of avatars for myself eventually, but figured I’d see if I can learn to like it and/or give the people who like visual cues something to go by. I suggest others who are going to turn off avatars go ahead and upload one first as a kind gesture to those who want avatars. Why not?

I had it all ready at 50x50, thought it looked like poo at such a low resolution, and was simultaneously pleased and irked when I saw that it was 125x125 now, and I’d have to do it again.

ETA: Mine doesn’t seem to be showing up… I’ll wait and see if it just takes a bit, I guess.

ETA2: Ah, filesize was too large, converting my .png to .jpg did the trick.

Since we still have things to fix in the new stylesheet, I’m sure we could fix things so the avatars fit better with the theme.

As for not having avatars, that could be an additional theme: the no-avatar theme. I believe you can choose themes even when you are logged out, and it will keep a cookie.
