I was in Labor(Day) for 24 hours! - A Relaxing MMP

Having your smoke detector go off is pretty scary nellie.

Hope that you don’t have to use your bug out bag bright tree.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and have a little reddish dog curled up in my lap. Other than dropping off some happy mail at the PO, a donation to Goodwill and picking up a CO2 cartridge for the soda stream, it will likely be a day of sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We’ve been to the farm store - I got some little spuds, some 'maters, some peaches, some cukes, and a cantaloupe. MIL got some strawberry-rhubarb jam. I just finished hanging towels and tablecloths out on the line - it should be a good drying day.

We’ll have lunch in about an hour, then head to Leonardtown. Mostly, chillage reigns.

Used mine last month, for the first time in a couple years. High school reunion wasn’t set up for online payment, so I had to send the treasurer a cheque.

Young fellow, are you?

Maybe you can borrow one from somebody. A lot of people seem not to be using theirs.

Don’t know about the other islands, but Crete is certainly a nice place to visit.

Ditto. I’ve wondered if Charles himself was beginning to think his mother was going to outlive him…

Spent the last couple days driving out to the Midwest for my high school reunions (50 years already!). First reunion is tonight; then I’ll spend a few days with my nephew and his family before going on to my other reunion.

Well, so much for my plans for today. I was going to go complete the installation of the murphy doors, but the room I need to go through to get there is being tiled today.

Maybe I’ll fight the shrubbery and then try to patch the hole where the squirrels are getting into the attic.

and drive me crazy scrabbling

Listening to FCD arguing with his mother - she’s worried about what might happen if there’s another pandemic, afraid that they’ll be locked in their apartment, She’s basing that on her sister in law who was in assisted living and wasn’t allowed visitors for months, as if her apartment complex is the same as the assisted living place. He thinks she’s looking for excuses to not move. And FIL is trying to make a point but he can’t complete a coherent thought. I’m staying in a different room.

I think FCD is just frustrated from having dealt with them for over 2 weeks so far. It’s so hard on him. Plus his mom is reacting emotionally and he’s trying to get her to think logically.

We’ll be heading out soon - here’s hoping this all blows over and we can enjoy the afternoon.

You’re my new best friend on the SDMB! :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s my Long Night (4 pm - around 2ish am) so the sloth is real with this one today.

I have, however, taken out trash & also given Monkey some time with the Blessed Red Dot Which Must Be Killed, and he also got outside time, so he needs to stahp howling at me the spoiled little monster.

If I clean up after Charm AND eat before leaving, I’ll be in solid shape.
(Srsly, who poops into their own water?)

ETA: sneks don’t eat or drink every day. You get a little lag time.
Monkeys, however, are incessant.

Operation squirrel cap completed. In order to get there, I had to hack down about 2 pick-ups worth of walnut saplings and offspring from ones I’ve hacked down before.

Now wait and listen if there are any stragglers still inside. If so, deploy the have-a-heart trap.

Great Clips said there’s a 119 minute wait when I checked in online a half hour ago. So I’m in line for an oil change. Should be 20 minutes before I get in.

well there’s one problem if any of the walnut trees were dropping nuts …well to the tree rodents that’s dinner and home lol

wow, there’s still a barber shortage?

weasels :point_down:Me, mistaking a small skin flap for a pice of tape
Rip My Flesh
(just a bit of epidermis, though.) It was Bob Marley Day, because everything was jamming. The SSLAWs, the boxes in the bags, the boxes in the chute… Today’s incredibly large thing that still somehow got lost was a matress. Maserati bumper, matress…It’s Milhouse’s dad!

Sorry about the fire alarm, Nellie.

Good luck on the tree rat hunt, VanGo.

Mother’s still in Poland. Dad is still sick, and testing positive, but says he’s improving. I’m off to work for my Long Shift in a few, but have at least chatted with the parental units, and explained that I’m working a bit of overtime.

Impressive.

Afternoon all. Refereeing and coaching completed, so thinking about changing clothes and having Sunday dinner on Saturday night. A bit of rain showed up but we played though it and nobody melted. Lost both games, the 12U boys are really depressing me, they seem to play well for one minute and then lose interest the next minute; they were out-hustled all game by the other team and lost 1-8. Have to think of something to inspire them.

Have read all but don’t have the energy to respond. Take care all.

After the oil change, I went to refuel. There was a Black guy with a big, black SUV at the station. In the lower-left corner of the rear window was ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ. I was like, ‘Oh. He’s one of those.’ I go to Great Clips for my haircut. A White guy brought his son in. I could see dad in the mirror. His T-shirt said ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ. These guys are out today! (I’m pretty sure this one had the gigantic silver pick-up with the vinyl canopy over its bed that parked next to me and prevented my seeing if anyone was coming as I backed out.)

And we’re back. We had a nice time at the Taste of St. Mary’s. We bought $20 worth of tickets, then someone gave me another $15 they didn’t want, so we got to sample a lot of things. There were maybe a dozen old cars, and a band playing music of the 60s and 70s. The weather was perfect. But I’m glad to be home.

I brought the laundry in and in a little bit, I’m going to find me some food - I didn’t eat anything there because I’m trying to watch what I eat, but everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had.

Anyway, time to eat and chill. All that fresh air and sunshine kicked my butt!!

I got a text from the manager: Maintenance said you should call the emergency number if it happens again. They can’t tell what might be causing it until it does it.

Me: Nooooo! It’ll never get fixed then, because there’s nothing to see! Plus my eardrums will rupture if I have to go through that again!

So they got the on-call maintenance guy to come over. He changed the batteries in all three smoke detectors, but one of them was making wonky sounds and blinking weird. My guess is that’s the one that went berserk. He replaced the unit. Hopefully this does it.

I had a half-workout today. I’m just too tired after getting so little sleep. However, I’m about to clean out my fridge, my least favorite chore. Then I’m just going to sloth like my life depends on it.

flyboy, what’s with all these defiant guys? I mean, it seems weird to see two within such a short time.

MetalMouse, rest up! It might be a good night to order in, or don’t you do that?

Just got off the phone with our tenant. He never calls. We barely email.

He said he put the rent check in the mailbox at the Post Office. They empty it in the morning, so everything is sitting there overnight. Someone stole a bunch of mail out of the box and washed the rent check, rewriting it to pay himself $6,500 (a lot more than the rent). The tenant got an alert this morning saying his account was overdrawn. (The bank paid the thief.) The tenant says he’ll send a check from another account Monday. I asked if he’d filed a police report, and he said he was going to when he got home. He did talk to/go to the Post Office, and they said [paraphrasing], ‘Yeah, that happens a lot.’

Hot, windless, with brighter sun and strong odor of smoke, ash on everything. Small fire a few miles from us but my guess is that it’s contained. The Cedar Creek Fire has expanded. I went out to water some plants and grab the mail, but that’s the extent of it until the air quality improves.

Chores done, sloth slothed and more sloth is scheduled. On the way home from the errands, I stopped at the Pubic Sto’ for a chicken tender dinner. I’d forgotten just how much they give you for $5.99. :open_mouth: I know what’s for lunch tomorrow now. :slightly_smiling_face:
