Howdy Y’all! Been a rainy (off and on) day, so a lot of sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness got accomplished. Seriously, the most strenuous thing I have done today is walk all the way down to the mailbox and back. I had nappage after that. I was worn out!
We had to find a poop-proof water dispenser for Misty. Ava (RB) unloaded into her water occasionally too. Don’t know if I just got two deranged doves in a row or whether that’s somewhat common for birds.
I must be out of touch; I’ve never seen this before. I googled, and it appears to be an Ancient Greek expression of defiance that’s been co-opted by survivalist militia groups. Takes all kinds, I guess.
Yes. ‘Come and take them.’
never mind
Evening all. Went to the City Cafe and had a 16oz hamburger steak (which I couldn’t finish), fries and a salad. So at least I now have an excuse to go to the gym tomorrow.
Flyboy, that’s a terrifying story, I hope your tenant can get the bank to restore his account, sounds like he’s blameless in the matter. I write only 3-5 checks a month anymore, but I may have to join the 21st century and get those on Direct Deposit or something similar.
nellie, I actually feel pretty good, the temperature stayed in the mid-70’s and while it was a bit humid, there were clouds and a nice breeze, so the sun wasn’t kicking my posterior. And hopefully your alarm system will work fine now (really need to check my batteries too).
OK, need to go finish the Friday Sudoku’s before Sunday’s show up, so take care all.
Now I’m curious.
My hair gets a ‘wave’ when it gets long. It’s always irked me. Maybe that’s why I like my hair short. Today my hair was cut short, but not as short as I’ve liked. SWMBO forbids me from cutting my hair too short. (Bad Army memories, I guess.) So I had this ‘Superman’ or ‘Baby Huey’ curl. SWMBO decided it bothered her, and she just cut it off.
It sounded like the tenant said I’m the only one he writes checks to. It would certainly be easier if he could directly deposit the money into my account (or the house account). I’ll have to call the credit union Monday to see how that can be done.
At this point, I only write about 2 paper checks a month, both because their online pay is not user friendly. Everything else is paid online.
I’ve gotten away from writing paper checks since our pay schedule changed at the first of the year. The due dates and my pay dates often do not align well.
Me, too.
Happily, the whole hot, super-wind event did not come to pass. No need to flee and the power never even flickered. The highest my outdoor temperature got today was 77F. I don’t mind. I’d rather go through a false alarm than see the danger blow up into a reality, where people lose their homes – or worse, their lives.
The sun looks better today, but there remains a lot of smoke and particulate in the air. My online local weather forecast – not nearly as entertaining as BooFae’s – briefly horrified me when it forecast 10 solid days of “strong storms with lightning, thunder and no rain.” Must’ve been a glitch, because the forecast is now back to its usual “partly sunny, partly cloudy, chance of rain.” (This is the basic daily forecast for my area. They just cover all the bases and call it good.)
swampie, glad things are back to normal for you and you’re caught up on sloth!
flyboy, hope you and your tenant can work out the stolen rent thing. That’s just dreadful on both ends. Cool haircut.
nellie, glad the smoke detector issue is resolved! I’m sorry your rest was so rudely disturbed. Thanks also for the inspiration – my fridge is newly cleaned, too. ![]()
doggio, may there be less jamming in the upcoming week.
nettie, hope the air has cleared where you are, too, or at least will soon. Good luck with the cardiologist on Friday.
shoe, hope Charm’s clean up on Aisle 4 didn’t give trouble! I had a boa constrictor for a few years in my distant youth, name of Monty. I used to put him in the bathtub in shallow water to help him poop. He seemed to like it and it always worked, so I’m not surprised Charm used her water dish.
Have wonderful evenings, everyone.
Happy Saturday!
It was a chilly 58 degrees at the park.
There were a nice number of dogs.
Natty Boh and Jackson got into a fight. I saw it coming. Fortunately, it was mostly noise and no blood.
Echo was on the small dog side, so she wasn’t involved. Afterwards Jackson and NIco went to the small side too.
I feel bad for Natty Boh, he seems to get into a lot of squabbles. He plays rough, and very few dogs can cope with him. Urban the Airedale can, and surprisingly, Rocky the mini dachshund mix can.
Rocky is fearless, he was out in that tangle with four big dogs and a small husky, and he can hold his own against them.
Some man brought in a nice-looking pit, but the dog was unneutered and a little too aggressive. He sent Ripple rolling, which had Ripple all excited and ready to rumble. I haven’t seen Ripple get like that in a long time. Ripple would have been playing, I’m not sure about the pit. The pit got Lucy2 pinned to the ground on her back and was growling at her, and that was scary. Lucy2 is a very sweet dog.
The man took to pit to the small dog side where by that time, there were no other dogs over there.
Today was the grand opening of the new skate park. It’s not finished, but it opened anyway. Now we know why the park people were out in numbers tidying up the park yesterday, the mayor is going to be there. She will never miss a photo op, it’s what she does best.
I’m pretty sure it’s the only thing she does.
Lucy dad texted me that the park was packed this afternoon and there was NO parking for the dog park. I said I knew that was going to happen, and we can only hope we get there early enough to get parking spots before the skaters get there. I asked the park to put up ‘dog park parking only’ signs and they said NO! They said we can use the spots around the corner, which are in the neighborhood beside the dog park, The people who live there use those spots. I have no idea how to get to them anyway.
Yep, I’m still grumpy.
I knocked out a bunch of stuff on the ToDo List and was feeling good about it.
Then my son got a BIG envelope from the State of Maryland.
A letter about he is a beneficiary of my mother’s retirement plan and they sent out a check after she died and they have asked the bank to send to money back, but there is no guarentee they will.
He has to fill out a form, and then a bunch of tax forms, and everything has to be notarized. So add finding a notary to the list, and add a visit to the notary to the list. Then they need a copy of his ID and SS card, add making copies and find SS card to the list. I know where the card is, I will have to dig a file out of the back of the closet and go through it to find it.
Then they need a copy of the death certificate. I think, why do they need a copy of the death certificate when they obviously already know she is dead. Then I remember we are dealing with State of Maryland.
I go out to the vital records website and damn are death certificates not cheap. Then there is the $20 processing fee and the $18 shipping fee. It takes a minimum of two weeks to get them. I don’t know if I have that much time to send the forms back.
I called Niece1 and no answer. I text her and ask if she has the death certificates yet. She says yes, and I say can I get one from you, my son has some forms from the state and we need one.
No answer.
I think is she busy? Is she mad about something? Does she not want to give me one? I mean wtf?
Did she spend the money that was deposited and now is thinking oh shit!
The next day I called the state and they said I have time to send the forms back. I ordered 4 death certificates and now we wait.
I’m probably going to have to buy a big envelope to send everything back. You’d think they could have enclosed one.
So let’s just add more shit to the list.
I asked the office of the orthopedic doctor if I could get a handicapped placard for my truck. They said they’d get back to me, and a week later they told me, no, Dr so and so doesn’t approve them, you need to call your PCP. They couldn’t have told me that a week ago?
I had a client at irk ask me to do work for him outside of the company. Not allowed and I had to report him in for asking, because if they found out he asked and I didn’t report him, I could be fired. If I was to do work outside the company for him, I can be sued.
I hate when clients do that, they know better, and I hate having to report them. I feel like a snitch, but I’m not putting my job on the line for anybody. There’s that whole calls can be monitored for quality control and training purposes, and if somebody heard him ask, even though I said no, it still could come back on me.
The company tells me he will be banned from talking to me, his calls will be redirected to somebody else. I was told if he does get through to me to tell him I can’t talk to him anymore and hang up. He was in my queue yesterday. I refused the call and damn if he didn’t keep getting back in my queue. I don’t want to talk to him, I think the offer to work for him on the side was a ruse to get my personal information anyway. I don’t mind some idle chit chat with clients, but he was getting a little too nosy.
No apology necessary MetalMouse, my mother had her issues and it’s not going to offend me.
It’s complicated, she was my mother and I loved her, but it’s not always easy.
I wanted to get stuff done today, instead I fell asleep sitting in my chair and didn’t wake up until after 3.
Then we ordered pizza.
I’m rewriting my ToDo List, because a lot of the pages have almost everything crossed off and the stuff that still needs to be done gets lost. There’s a lot of repeating as well.
I should print it as my son has trouble with cursive.
My new doctor is on me to get a bunch of tests done. It seems Medicare has a list.
That is so annoying, and adds to my stress.
I just want to be left alone for a bit.
[Festivus Grievance]Why is it I can watch such College powerhouses as Incarnate Word and Gardner-Webb(attorneys at law!), but not Top 25 N.C. State?[/Festivus Grievance]. But having Asian BBQ chciken and a Saketini(because nothing’s more asian than Latvain vodka). Watching some F! practice.
Flyboy, eek for the tenant, and hope his bank fixes things. And I’mc glad I pay my rent electronically.
{{{{sari**}}}}
Many, many hugs and offers of tea/booze or chocolate, whichever you want.
We have had surprise storms and power outages here. Hubs was bitching that we have lived out this way for almost 30 years without power outages but now they happen a bunch. That made me realize that we have lived out this way for almost 30 years without seeing our underground lines being replaced and/or updated.
We might be looking at moving because hubs needs internet. We use batteries and fill buckets of water when the power goes out, but we can’t fill a bucket of interwebz and hubs really does suffer without it.
Plus…his butt really loves his bidet. Yesterday he went to town and his IBS sent him to the restroom. His butt said “Nope. Not doing that here, no happening, no way, no how.” and the poor man had to come all the way home in considerable discomfort.
So, we need to move closer to town. I knew this was going to happen, I really didn’t think it would happen this soon.
The camel cheese is curing. I used double the normal lactic acid, calcium carbonate and rennet that I would normally use and the curd I tasted was pretty salty (nature of the beast AND the calcium carbonate). The curds were really, really fragile and everything took about twice as long.
The chances of me trying this again are pretty slim, but it is something new that not a lot of people I know have done.
Conversation I just had with Monkey:
“Why are you being an asshole? What is UP with the assholey-ness?”
“Mrrrrrowww.”
“Is too a word, now quit being an assho- what did I JUST SAY?!”
(He was knocking crap off my table. Then using the curtains as a scratching post, when HE HAS TWO scratching posts of his very own, that he is rewarded for using.)
… then, a conversation I had with myself, because shortly after Monkey decided licking his own
was at least as much fun as knocking crap off my table, I sneezed. Normally twice and I’m done, but this was … eight or nine in a row? I saw stars.
Then I quite literally said, aloud, in an empty(ish) house like a crazy lady, “Are we DONE yet?!”
… and sneezed again.
Bless you.
Thank you, m’dear.
(Gods, but I do love this place.)
We night owls need to stick together.
nope, that’s common for birds. for some reason …my gopher snake loved to take a bath but at some point, he always tried to climb up the water spout in the tub and it was big enough he could fit in it …one day he wouldn’t come out and so my brother turned the water on … he backed up so fast …
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 69! Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 84 with rain showers predicted this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization, I have Verger duty, followed by a McN.O.L. and then back to da cave for sloth, nappage and general overall uselessness.
I read all, but again, I have the attention span of a lobotomized gnat, so yays, boos, hugs, chitlins, trouts, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Holy guacamole - I slept (mostly) till 6:30!!! I was falling asleep in front of Colombo last night, so I went to bed. And apart from getting up at some point to pee, plus being awakened by Ziva banging on our door, I managed to stay asleep - who’d’a thunk it?? I’ve been up for an hour, I tended the critters, loaded the dishwasher, had breakfast, and read the funnies. It’s been raining, so our yard is getting a nice drink. Great way to start the day!
Speaking of checks, I write them periodically for certain service calls here - our gutter guy doesn’t do plastic, nor do many of the tree guys. We also used to get medical bills from places that didn’t have a pay-online option, but I think they’ve all converted. I also write checks to my daughter because our credit union is a pain in the patoot about doing transfers to other institutions. Dunno why, but checks are easier.
Crap - I just realized that we missed the hazardous waste day at our landfill. We needed to get rid of some stuff that was left here by the last owners that we keep saying we need to take to Hazardous Waste Day, and we missed it again. Dammit. That’s another year of waiting…
Today’s plans include a whole lot of nothing. I’ve got a hunk o’ chuck roast to throw in the slow cooker with assorted veggies - so supper is covered. And I may run to Aldi for some chips because the ones at Food Lion are crazy $$ and I really like the Clancy chips anyway. Mostly, tho, we’re not doing anything.
Until this evening when we have to drop off my car at the shop. I need to get the headlights aligned tomorrow and I want them to look it all over prior to our trip, just to be sure there are no impending issues. Which means I’ll be without wheels tomorrow. No biggie - I plan to do laundry anyway.
And so it begins. Another day in In-Law Paradise. FCD may or may not take his folks to church.
Happy Sunday!
