You know, my husband wants to name our firstborn son “Phaton”. Oddly, I vetoed it.
I’ll take him with me to the naming seminar.

Wouldn’t it be Phaeton? You can tell him Volkswagen and Buick are not acceptable either. Just as a preemptive strike.
Oh, so that’s what he’s been saying! :smack:
Well, pfft. So much for his policy of buying American. Well, except for the Nissan. And the Mazda. But the Monte Carlo is okay.
Hmm… maybe we should name our kid Monty [sic].
Whoa, what tangent am I on again? Oh, yeah…
…Or I could change my username to Plimpypottamouse, or JeneviereJehosephat, or Tripty-teabottoms.
But Hispano-Suiza, Packard, Pierce-Arrow, and Rolls Royce are still okay, right?
Anastasaeon, you can probably head off “Phaeton” as a name for your child just by telling your husband the story: Phaeton was a kid who borrowed the car keys, lost control of the vehicle, and his dad’s boss had to shoot him dead to save everyone else. The name is practically synonymous with “son who is indulged beyond his capacities, with disastrous results” (the trope has a certain relevance today). It’s up there with Icarus and Oedipus and Lizzie Borden on the list of lucky names to give your kid.

Well, it’s a start, however, I’m not sure how effective it would be; his other favourite name for a kid is Judas.
[tongue in cheek]In all other respects, my husband is the perfect man. I’ve been waiting to see which part is imperfect. I think we’re onto something, here. Well, okay, this, and his love of Rob Schneider.[/tic]
