Big rains here tonight. It seems the vent stack from the bathroom has developed a leak. Huzzah. Seems some ladder time will be in my future. I really don’t wanna crawl out into the tiny part of the attic.
Big rains here too. We have underground power lines that have served very well for many, many years. The years have taken their toll and this year we are having our power cut out during the rain. It’s possible our little rural area might get some of that infrastructure money to help our aging power and water lines, but I’m not really going to hold my breath.
The Valley of the Sun has flooded areas and people are wading and swimming around in the icky monsoon ponds. (Icky because it hasn’t been made safe for swimming or drinking, no icky because I hate water.) 9 or 10 years ago, Crown King burnt which resulted in Mayer flooding. The health department sent a nurse to the emergency center to give tetanus to anyone who had been in the water because flood water is not very safe.
What a good son, he’s putting up with the hair and slobber because he loves you.
sari, has anyone suggested ice packs alternated with heat? It’s not my favorite thing to do, but it really does seem to help my hip.
So, we have goldfinches hanging around and I put some thistle in a small tube feeder for them. They liked it until the sparrows and wrens found out about it and kept running the gold finches off. I bought a finch sock, which is mesh tube that is closed on one end and has drawstrings on the other. I filled it with thistle and hung it up and the goldfinches were all over it right away.
This thing is pretty opaque and doesn’t look like anything in nature. I’ve also never seen one in any of the neighbor’s yards. So…how the heck did the goldfinches figure them out so fast?
Just got back from a church picnic. Why they had to hold it at 6pm, not far past peak heat of the day, instead of around noon-ish, I have no idea. Still enjoyable. The people are generally likable, and I got to make friends with two very nice dogs (from different families. The dogs got along fine with each other).
SHOTS!!! Tetanus SHOTS, damnit!!!
Evening all. Pretty much a nothing day, I pedaled a bike at the gym, napped, and had my Sunday dine-out on Saturday instead (Logan’s Roadhouse meatloaf), so no eating out tomorrow. Got my 12U Boys soccer roster and sent them all an e-mail, first practice is Moanday. Still waiting for official word on my 10U team, we don’t start practice until 2sday, so I can wait a bit.
Watched a You Tube Channel on a new cruise to the North Pole (google Kara and Nate if your curious). Looks great, but the cost is probably near a compact car’s MSRP…maybe someday…
red, nettie, flyboy, nice that you got out and about with folks; one reason I do coach soccer if to try and get myself socialized.
Sari, son may find the dogs icky and the people intimidating, but it’ll do him good in the long run, IMHO.
A little rain here but no heavy stuff like some folks have reported.
Shoe, hope the legs are doing well come tomorrow morning. And snakes don’t bother me at all.
OK, that’s all the reporting for tonight, need to be thinking about bed time here shortly. All y’all take care.
(giggling) Can’t speak for anyone else, but I kind of automatically mentally filled in the missing word.
Yeah, well there are a couple of smartasses that hang around here. No reason to name names, you guys know who you are
I think it’s more like a couple of non-smartasses.
/snicker/ Yeah, there are a couple of them too, LOL!
Drinking my 4 pack of New Leash, and watching cooking. Life is good.
[Tinfoil Hat]I knew Big Tetanus was involved![/Big Tetanus]

I just watched the Children’s Riot Festival.
And safe travels.
nettie, glad you enjoyed the picnic.
I’m pooped as is to be expected, but not completely overwhelmingly exhausted to where I can’t eat or shower & just crawl into bed. It helps that we had a fast close, getting out around 1:45 so I was home even a smidge before 2, which is definitely a welcome change from last Saturday!
I planned ahead (by thinking while getting closing duties done quickly!) and turned on the oven as soon as I got in. Popped in a Hungry Man (don’t judge) and now I’m already showered, washed my hair even! Shaved my legs, just cuz! And dinner should be ready around the time I’m good and wound down and finally hungry.
That’s kinda awesome! I’ve seen so many dogs take off after squirrels over the years, and never once saw one even come close to catching one.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 90 and rainy(ish) for the day. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. Afterward we shall return to da cave and have a sammich N.O.L. Much sloth along with nappage and general overall uselessness shall follow.
red safe travels!
sari here’s hopin’ the knee gets sorted out soonest. Yay for Lucy the mighty squirrel hunter!
JtC and Nettie smartasses? I resemble that remark!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Slept with Mel last night - really slept!! Ergo, I feel almost human this morning! WOOHOO!!
Not sure what the day’s plans are. There are a few things I want to get done, but they can be worked around whatever FCD might have in mind… if he has anything in mind. I’ll find out when he gets up.
We’re promised rain on and off today and tomorrow, which makes planning a challenge. But being retirees, it’s not like we have to deal with things before the work week starts, right?
Happy Sunday!!
This made me curious so I gave Mr Google a try and found this in Science Daily here:
Sight and hearing are the most important senses for birds – this is at least the received wisdom. By studying bird DNA, however, researchers have now provided genetic evidence that many bird species have a well-developed sense of smell.
Up. caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s very cloudy, and it smells like there’s a fire nearby. I shall not ignore the chores this day.
Thanks. Our minds and our asses are now smarter this weekend.
That’s terrific news. Too many bad nights in a row can really run a body down.
New SDMB slogan?
Morning all. Pill swallowed and paper retrieved, so early morning chores are complete. Up about 6am again, going to try sleeping on the other side of the bed again to try and stay in longer. Nothing much on the agenda, a couple of e-mails for soccer and rain is due off and on. May get to the gym and may not.
Mmmmmm, brain is still waking up. All y’all take care.
Good morning, everyone. We’ll be going for a walk someplace rural later this morning, so I have to keep my tea consumption to a minimum lest I have to pee during the walk in an inconvenient place where there are no bathrooms. Then it’s on to breakfast out at a local coffee shop.
My odious task of the day: clean the stovetop. This is the first cleaning I’ve done since we purchased and installed a StoveGuard, a sort of flat vinyl cover which theoretically keeps most of the stovetop clean. I’ll find out later today if it was worth it. The grates still get as dirty as ever and will need a soak in hot water and Krud Kutter and a scrub with steel wool. Bleh, I hate this job.
I also need to do grocery shopping, but a country walk and a stove scrubbing might just leave me too tired to do so. Well, we can get by with what’s in the kitchen already, I think.
Have a great Sunday!
It is raining. Princess Pretty Paws pooped prior to precipitation(Praise Poseidon!)
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 63 degrees with an expected high of 83 and cloudy to partly cloudy skies. The sun barely came out yesterday, so we’ll see what today holds for temps and weather.
Well, damn it. I have to take Polar to the vet…again. You may or may not remember, but back in June/July I had to take Polar in because I found crusty stuff in his fur. They gave me two meds because he had two types of infections going on and he got all his meds. They worked a treat and his fur was looking better than it had in quite some time, and even his surgery area was filling in. Last week, I noted his paws seemed rather pink and he’d been licking at them, but he sometimes gets like that when it’s hot. Over the last couple of days, I’ve noted that he was blowing way more coat than he usually does and yesterday, as I was giving him a good rub down, gobs of fur were coming out and they all had the crusty ends.
I’m really hoping they’ll just give the meds with maybe a longer course of treatment instead of me having to drag Polar to the vet. Further complicating things is the fact that I need to commute to Olympia every day through Thursday because we’re having our statewide meeting.
I need to do laundry today and possibly squeeze in an errand or two. I’m also working on a puzzle that I’d like to finish and of course, I must water all the flowers.
I really hope something can be done about your pain, sari.
Okay time to finish my coffee and take a shower.
