I'm Up too Early so May as Well Start the MMP

Off to granddaughter Harriet (3yo), Very excited because its been 2 weeks since I saw her-her dad, mu lovely SIL, was waiting on a Covid test so we all in our respective houses. Negative, but we had to wait for results. He’s a UNL prof so there may be a bit of that now. His campus is hybrid, leaning towards more on line side. No college football :football: so the whole state is atwitter. I love my Husker :football: but student safety comes first. Wouldn’t be surprised if more stuff shuts down, like bars near campus since almost still kids will be almost still kids. 3 sorority house have already been put on quarantine.

First non scorching day in months so I imagine Hattie and I will have a back yard play session. We get pretty wild. Worms will be dug up, etc.

Good morning all. Garage door just went up so i gotta go. Happy Grandma signing off.

My cats get the zoomies come autumn, the brisk air, dry leaves skittering like mice. First snow they go slow, don’t like it much and their outside world is limited to paths cleared of snow. By the mid winter I’ll see them trucking across the ice taking a shortcut home.

You live near the lakeshore? Get ready for lake effect dumps of snow, literally it pours out of the sky. FUN!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. There may be cleaning. Or sloth. Or maybe I clean a sloth. Why it’s so hard to find dumbells. But all the ones people do find come through my sort table. All I know is all of y’all better come out of the 'rona stacked like 1984 Arnold Schwarzenegger.

You two just hang on the best you can.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to put some black bean chili in the crock. Not much shaking here today except the usual Sunday chores. We’re getting some drizzle from Laura, so it will be an indoor day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

@BippityBoppityBoo

It is possibly that I may be the only male in the state that couldn’t care less about Husker Football. My usual statement regarding it is that, if I were to go to a Husker game (or any other sports event for that matter) I would need two tickets: One for me and the other for the guy holding a gun to my head to make me go into the stadium.

Every morning on the drive to work along with the news and traffic I listen to the testosterone soaked clowns on talk radio who don’t care if the virus spreads or not as long as they can pack the stadium for Husker football. We even have eight families suing the Big 10 to reverse the cancellation.

Howdy Y’all! We have deheathenated and consumed Brunswick stew. Life is good. Next up, nappage!

SIL and his brother have taken the sofa, love seat, ottoman, both side tables, and a bunch of boxes of stuff. Daughter went to the house early to start painting the bedrooms. FCD is working on a report that’s due tomorrow.

This post was interrupted by some sort of issue with my ISP but I seem to be back, so yay! In the interim, I managed to get the critter fountain clean, so score one for me!

SIL and his brother are back for a second load of stuff. Roxy just went down for a nap. When she wakes, I’ll take her to see her Mama, then we’ll go over to the community playground so she can start meeting kids in her area. After that, who knows? FCD wants me to read his report. I need to dream up something for supper. That’s pretty much the whole agenda.

Oh, and the windows are still open! Huzzah!!

I was of the same mindset about the Boilermakers when I was at Purdue. I went to the first half of the first game my first year, hated it, and never went back. I knew a guy who was a Big Brother, so I gave him my season pass and as far as I know, he took his Little Brother. Didn’t matter to me in the least.

In fact, I pretty much feel the same about pro football. Altho I do get a giggle when the local sports reporters talk about the Washington Football Team. They have yet to decide on a name, after years of the owner saying he’d never change from Redskins.

@FairyChatMom

In Nebraska football is almost a state religion. Upon his retirement, Coach Osborne was elected to 2 terms in the House of Representatives. The second term he received 93% of the vote in his district.

It is not just football for me. I think all sports are a boring and a waste of time.

And here I thought Texas was the Football-Is-God state…

I’m not much into sports in general, but I do follow the Washington Nationals, even tho some of my favorites have left. Spousal unit is a Dallas fan, and he’ll watch just about any football game on TV, so I see more than I care to admit. Could be worse - could be Fox News… :open_mouth:

Why do they use AT&T Stadium as a tornado shelter?
There’s no danger of a touchdown there!

Pun of the day:
What do sticking your hand in a Moray burrow and eating expired sushi have in common? You end up feeling a little eel.

Happy Sunday!

It is a beautiful day here. The sun is shining, low humidity, 75 degrees.

I spent three hours at the park this morning. Most of the gang was there and it was cool enough (low 60s) for all the pups to be full of energy. They all got a good romp. Ziggy, the corgi puppy, came over to play with the big dogs. Nice time for everybody.

Then when I got home I checked the front door as my ring has gone off while I was at the park. I was expecting a package, instead it was my neighbor. The mailman messed up, she got my mail, I got the next neighbor’s mail, and so on down the line I suppose. I sat out front catching up with her for almost two hours.

She is also no longer speaking to neighbor two doors up. That is surprising.
Sherry, my neighbor, is a very nice person. I have my issues with her, but she is very nice. I have never, in the six years I have known her, ever heard her say anything negative about anybody. Until today. I told her I was having a fence put in and I wanted her to know that it wasn’t about her, that I couldn’t deal with the bitch next to her anymore. The look on her face said everything. I don’t know what all went out between them, none of my business. All she said is, there is a right way to ask somebody to do something and a wrong way, and (crazy b) doesn’t know how to ask.

I couldn’t get hold of the fence guy this morning. I was a little upset because it’s supposed to rain for the next few days and I want my fence up dammit. I came in from talking with the neighbor and Ripple comes to greet me. No Echo, where is Echo? I started hunting for her and I noticed the kitchen door was open and thought she had gotten out. Nope, fence guy came, I had left the door unlocked, he let himself in to plug in the whatever it is he needs plugged in and Echo was outside with him.
I don’t know what she is going to do when he stops coming over.

I’m not into sports. Although I can enjoy some equestrian events.

I think all y’all need to come up here and go to the dog park with me every morning. It’d get you out of the house, you’d meet new friends, and the dogs are so damned entertaining. We laugh a lot.

You need to post some pics of your house MetalMouse. And why wouldn’t I like Alabama?

I didn’t do much of anything yesterday. Today is not looking much better to get something done,

Good morning, everyone! Sleep was interrupted twice by sirens. Yesterday was a siren-filled day. Not sure why. Anyway, awakened at 7 with a phone call. People can’t seem to keep time zones straight and think I’m X hours later than they are. It’s OK, though. It was someone nice.

I used to hate Sundays as a kid. After Mass, the day stretched out, long and boring: nothing on TV, stores closed (blue laws), visiting relatives meant few kids playing, and homework to do for school (ugh) the next day (double-ugh). As an adult, they were better, but I was still grading and prepping for Monday. Now I love Sundays. My kids call. Relatives call. No work-outs. I have a tradition of having a cocktail on my balcony at 5:00. Sweet.

Doggio, I think most of those dumbbells will end up as toe-stubbers until they get shoved in a closet. YOU, however, will emerge looking like Schwarzenegger, so don’t get out of sorts.

swampy, after ushing for two services, you must glow with holiness. Does OYKW ush, too?

Dot, glad you’re OK. I know things are still a hard struggle, but I got better vibes from your post.

Sari, I expect the difficult neighbor is going to be even more difficult for Sherry as your fence goes up. Echo sure is going to miss the fence guy when he (eventually) finishes.

I like sports when I’m in the stands. TV sports depress me. My ex used to turn on the TV loud, leave the room for half an hour, come back to check the scores, and get ticked if I’d turned it off because nobody was watching. This went on all day and made it hard for me to concentrate on grading or whatever.

Speaking of being up too early… Mr. Bladder woke me up in the wee hours. (That’s why they call them the wee hours.) I noticed a bone-in pork picnic roast that I’d put out to thaw. So after urinating and washing my hands, I rubbed it with pork rub (used the rest of the jar – I have another, but I should make some more) and put it into a 225ºF oven at about four of the clock. It’s been in there for seven hours as I write this.

I don’t think I told you, but our ‘little house’ in central Orygun is just a few miles from the White River fire and the winds were/are blowing our way.

Well, we got smoked out. We got a level 1 evacuation notice yesterday.
The levels, paraphrased:
1 get ready
2 pack your stuff
3 get out
We coulda stayed okay (probably) but we were having trouble with all the smoke and the pups were struggling, so we packed up and headed back to the valley and the big house last night. Got here about 10:30. Had a drink and fell into bed. At this point we’re planning to go back on Tuesday or Wednesday, hopefully. :crossed_fingers:t5:

The dogs are so excited to be back here with their big back yard that they woke me up at 3am and 6am to go outside and inspect the grass.

Today I need to go to the store and get some fake milk and some eggs. Maybe a box of cheerios. And 2 or 3 days worth of veg. We still have proteins in the freezer. We’ll be well fed anyway.

Don’t care for watching other people play sports, unless it’s one of the grandkids. Spent many, many weekends and weekday evenings watching football, baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, track and field, swim meets, and even water polo. I’m tired.

Read but didn’t retain much, so yays, boos, salmon, etc.

Now I’m off to take a real shower and get into the day.

Afternoon all. Went to Outback for dinner and got well stuffed, then picked up my soccer coaching bag (they provide each coach a bag with three balls, cones, pinnies, pump and sometimes a medical kit) It’s 88F and muggy so that was enough outdoor activity for the day.

And everyone knows Alabama is the most football-mad state in the US of A (accent on ‘mad’). And hippy, we’re about to elect an ex-coach to the U.S. Senate.

Sari, I’ll post some pictures…when I get around to it… And why you might not like Alabama…well, it’s going to get to 90F and it’s almost September…but at least my neighbors are quiet…

Bumba, think you were wise to leave when you did. Hope house is still there when you get back.

flyboy, waaaaaaaayy TMI!

FCM, house is looking a bit bare right now, isn’t it?

Boo, enjoy time with Hattie. They’ll grow up way too fast…

OK, I think I require nappage now after a big dinner. All y’all take care.

Just here:

You can tell where the couch protected the carpet from traffic crud!

I don’t venture into their basement space, so no idea what that looks like. Their shelves in the garage are starting to look emptier. And I don’t think their bedroom furniture will be moved for a few more days.

We went to check out the painting progress, and noticed that her friend who “helped” to paint pretty much sucked at painting. Since SIL is off work tomorrow, I’m going to go down there and fix the screw-ups in the hallway - both molding and walls. Daughter was just finishing the first coat on their bedroom and was getting ready to do Roxy’s room.

It’s getting there…

Meanwhile, the house is still open. Supper will be chicken fixed in some manner with appropriate sides. For now, chillage.

SSR, the reason your neighbors are quiet is they all have heat stroke.

Mother Nature is changing her meds around here, we have gone for nighttime lows in the low 60’s and dry to 80 and muggy, back to 60’s and dry. Of course, Laura helped with that. Next up, the leaves will start to change colors, and a month from now it will be setting up for the first-third-of-October cold snap, followed by oppressed-Native-American-summer, not to be confused with the junior senator form Massachusetts.

Mooooooom, here in Tennessee, college football, like in Ali-bammy, is a religion. I think that’s the truth anywhere in the SEC.

It rained on and off most of the day. The chili is good and once supper is et, I’ll do cleanup and play some more in the studio.
