Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

Just been informed that the place where I work, a job I began only a few months ago, is on an extended, potentially infinite, hiatus. Damn it. Covid lockdowns interfered with the local economy enough to affect the rate of incoming clientèle, and then my supervisor caught it and still hasn’t fully recovered, so it all just fell apart.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and cloudy for the day. There may or may not be rain. TWPTB are willy-nilly on this. It did rain overnight at some point. No big plans at all today. We shall practice our sloth skills and achieve chillage. Sup shall be various leftovers in da fridge, so that will be easy.

BatKid sorry about your irk situation. Hope you’re able to find sump’n soonest.

VanGo Cinnamon is a handsome fella!

Red and sari hope Nelson and Echo feel better today, poor babies.

Gordie says hello to me every mornin’ on the Book of Faces.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

For reasons unknown, the pellet stove didn’t come on, even as the temps plummeted!!! :open_mouth: It was 68° in the living room when I got up!! :open_mouth: I had to turn the fan knob off, then on, then it started working. Weird. :open_mouth: I expect Taz wasn’t happy with the temperature drop - he usually spends the night on the love seat by the pellet stove. Poor baby…

I’m to meet my daughter and SIL at the playground next to my daughter’s school to watch Roxy while they go to the last Dr appt before babby. Then I have to run by CVS to get FCD’s gabapentin. Oh, such a busy day!!! < pose of woe and exhaustion >

Actually, I need to make a major push to finish the afghan I’m working on so I can deliver it next week with the others I’ve made. It’s a simple but time-consuming pattern - k2-p2-repeat many times… I won’t be making this particular design again, even tho it’s really warm. Anyway, I want to finish it this weekend.

Happy Veterans Day to my fellow vets! And if I may be a grouch, please don’t say “Thank you for your service” to me unless you know what my service involved. It feels like stolen valor. I don’t know if others feel the same, but I think the better choice is asking a vet about their time in uniform, and then expressing your appreciation - it would be less trite when it comes with a frame of reference. End of grouch… for now…

And Happy Thursday to one and all!

Happy Vets Day for all who served (like FCM) and those just enjoying the day off. Need to get dressed and obtain bread here in a minute, what I though was in the freezer wasn’t last night so dinner was cheesy bread, so need to feed my carnivore side. Rain chances are down from 90% to 80%, so I’d better go this morning.

FCM, I usually turn the heat down to 68F for the night here, have a big heavy comforter that keeps me nice and warm and sweatshirts to be about the house until it warms back up.

Batboy, sorry to hear about your impending job loss; hope something else comes up fast for you.

nellie, I agree, double check with the doc, especially if they never mentioned an Epi-pen.

doggio, should have known that, I’m partial to Vogon poetry…and like Gordie’s pic.

Have a good Thorsday all.

I have the furnace set to 64 or 66 - I don’t recall. I know our bedroom is quite cool because it’s at the opposite end of the house from the pellet stove and we close the door in the evening to keep the cats out. I pre-warm my side of the bed with the electric blanket, and we have a comfy comforter to keep the heat under cover. But a bag of pellets will maintain a very comfy 70-71° in the main areas of the house, and unless it gets stupid cold out, a bag will last for 2 days. For stupid cold, we get about 24 hours…

I’m showered and dressed. I have a few outdoor chores I want to get done, since rain is promised tonight. Then I’ll knit till Roxy time. Mostly chill day ahead, I think.

This is Ralphie helping Mom sew:

So, of course, I need to show off my girls. Misty’s the one with feathers, of course, and Allie (aka the Princess) normally has blue-er eyes than in this photo.

Taz is diligently making sure the afghan doesn’t fall off the love seat. Good kitteh!

Good morning everyone.

It’s gonna be wet, wet, wet here with potential flooding. The warm rain and temps are going to shoot the snow level back up to 9000 feet and melt all the snow below it, causing big snowmelt in addition to all the falling rain. This will result in flooding in rivers and streams and potential avalanches. Fun times. Fortunately, I don’t really have to go anywhere today. The folks most affected live in flood plains, and next to rivers and creeks. I don’t so other than a lot of rainfall, I’m not going to really experience anything bad.

I tried sleeping in, but once again, the husband prevented that. Gave up and rolled out of bed at 4:30. I would love to get a full night of sleep that is uninterrupted by him coming to bed, farting with his BIPAP/CPAP mask, tossing, turning, scratching, and sighing. Ugh. The only saving grace is that the machine keeps him from snoring. His snoring was epically loud. I could hear it downstairs, with the bedroom door shut and it sounded like I was right next to him. So, that’s good, I guess.

I prefer the house to be cooler and 68 degrees is just right for me. Unfortunately, the husband likes it warmer. I’m constantly telling him to put on a sweater. Besides, it’s hard to sleep if the temp is much higher than that. My nose gets all stuffy and it’s just too damn hot.

I am guessing there will be no outdoor chores today due to the deluge. I may take it easy and enjoy a day of sloth, or I might just work on some organizing or something.

Jeez, I’d wind up camping on the couch if sleep was that badly disturbed!

Glad I took myself out for a lengthy waddle yesterday, as the weather has turned very windy & the oracles predict rain soon-ish.
I don’t mind either, except that will tumble down all the pretty leaves from the trees. The local maples are especially spectacular, but I’m afraid the show will be short-lived.

Right now, however, I’m enjoying the sound of the wind rushing through all the treetops.

Got some trash out & gave the kitties some catnip on the driveway, before the impending rain.
I have a bunch of adulting I need to do today, so naturally have come down with a massive case of the Don Twanna flu.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY to our vets.

And what a wonderful bunch of pets we have. : skritches : to all.

batboy I’m sorry to hear about your job. That’s a bummer. How do job prospects look over there?

moommm it sounds like your heater setting is above where I like my AC. You probably don’t want to know where my heater is set. Just kidding - we don’t use it. :smiling_imp:

VanGo If I were mom I’d be a wee bit peeved at Ralphie.

The organizers are coming! The organizers are coming! This is very stressful. I think the end results will be worth it, but I’d really like to bar the door and just hide.

Pets - Here are the first few. I’ll try and do more of them later.

Way too adorable!!

As are Yoshi, Boo, Akiko, Taz, Misty and Allie!

Whelp, it’s a-rainin’ here now, folks, that’s for sure. Nothing wild so far, but there’s that sense of it planning to stick around for a while. No wind to push things onwards, just a steady vertical shower.

I’m snacking on bread smeared with roasted garlic, and bits of cheese, so I’m sure I have the freshest breath in the western Mitten State right now.
Having a hot cuppa, and debating which unpleasant task I’m gonna put of first …

Outdoor chores are done, and you all missed a spectacular display of strength and grace. I was trying to start the leaf blower, which hasn’t been run in months. Prime, choke, fuel, all that stuff. Oh, yeah, and have I ever mention that I have lousy arm strength? So I’d pull, pull pull cuss cuss cuss. Thought maybe I’d try pulling with the other arm. Bad idea. The blower slipped and was pulled out from under my steadying hand, and I nearly went face first to the ground. I’m sure it was quite a sight.

I didn’t want to disturb FCD - he’s trying to write a report that he’s been putting off and I want him to get it done and gone. I regrouped, tried again, and finally got it running. There was probably more cussing in there, too. My main goal was to blow all the leaves off the deck and away from the wood pile. And I did. And it looked good. But the deck is covered in leaves again. Stoopit leaves.

But I’m done outside and I’ve lunched. I’m about to assume the knit position and find something on TV to distract me till I have to go watch Roxy. Good times.

A very good recipe from years ago. I’m making a batch to take out for Thanksgiving. So good…

Gorgeous day here in SoCal - warm, sunny and calm. Today would have been my mother’s 106th birthday. She made it to 100, though. Happy Birthday, Mom.

I’m sorry you miss your mom.

Please accept this gift of one (1) fluffy Nikki pic, as my attempt at consolation:

So Mightnight screwed up again, by sending some our stuff down the belt befo we got there. And I found i when I did the empty bags, when ti was pretty much too late. And they turned off the belt, so I had to drag them down to the truck. Then the power wnet out. Plus I had to stay and help with clean up. And get more OT.

:skritches Nikki, Yoshi, Boo, Akiko, Taz, Misty, Allie, and Ralphie :

Sorry about the layoff, Batboy. Hope you find something soonest.

Misty is lovely!

… and I have an enormous soft spot for Siamese anything, so please tell Allie that I love her.

Secondary litter box is clean, and laundry has been rescued from the dryer. Got a coupla clean work shirts and lotsa unmatched socks in the basket - will no doubt be dressing myself directly out of the clean basket for days.

One of my chores was to prep & mail off a package … d’oh! Forgot about the federal holiday.

Here is Monkey (“Golden Eyes”) showing off his extra thumbs.

Standard procedure over here. Dressing directly out of the dryer is also an option.

Your kitties are adorable, too, and need hugs and scritches. Better hope Monkey doesn’t work out using the thumbs for hand-type purposes.

Justifiably proud of his eyes and his thumbs!
