Old neighbor Fred called me this morning, wanting me to find him 3-4 consumer bottles of Freon for his car. He seems to think I can perform miracles or something… Freon hasn’t been made in the US for about 20 years.
Daughter just called me from* “I don’t know where I am!!!” * She’s on her way to work and was detoured because of flooding. She had no idea where the detour took her - she gets her sense of direction from her dad… I didn’t recognize the second road name she gave me, but I know where the made her turn, so I was able to figure out where she was headed. She ended up on the road to LaPlata (wonder if she saw Hope and Crosby??) which will get her to 301, which will get her to work. Why didn’t she use the GPS in her fancy new phone? No clue…
**BBBobbio **- all the tornado warnings last night were pissing me off - Metrocast interrupts TV to broadcast the warnings. Even when it’s just a crawl, they kill the sound - so I missed a fair bit of dialog in several shows. Stoopit tornado warnings… did anything touch down, do you know? Oh, and maybe you have some Freon in the back of the closet?? In that box? With the other stuff??
I’ll be going on a “job” interview some time soon. FCD has pitched me as a mechanical engineering asset for future contract bids and their VP of Sales wants to meet with me. I’m guessing he wants to get an idea of my specific qualifications and experience so he can sell my services. <pause for snerks> I told **FCD **I’ll give them 24 hours a week, but I’m not looking for a full-time job. So we’ll see how this goes.
**tarra **- one bit of advice: When you work in clay, wear something you don’t care about. If you use white clay, it’s not an issue, but the brown and red clays can stain clothing. I learned the other day that I need to pull my hair into a ponytail while I’m working - I pushed back my hair and ended up with a glop of clay that dried in my golden tresses. So today I’m ready - the hair is contained and out of the way.
Just finished a PB&J sammich on whole grain bread - that’s a healthy breakfast, right? Shortly I will dress, then head out for class. I want to get there early and get started early. I also need to find a UPS drop-off site in LaPlata - I’ve got to return some shoes I’d ordered for FCD. They’re the same size as a similar pair he has, but I guess his feet have grown since he bought the old ones. So these go back - thank goodness the company does free shipping both ways!
Happy Thursday. **Rebo **and lieu, you need to come here and get our excess rain. Thanks!
That’d be great. We actually went to the beach Saturday in part because it was suppossed to rain there. I just wanted to see, hear and smell it again. It didn’t but at least there were clouds!
Coming home my wife said “What’s that on fire?” because it was in line with our neighborhood. Unfortunately, it was Magnolia. Driving home yesterday, it had taken on an enormous wall-like appearance. At first you think stormfront, but then, no… it’s something completely different.
Anyone else got a 9/80 tomorrow? I love it when Friday comes on Thursday.
Yes, Loo - tomorrow is the Friday off of my 9/80. I have a dentist appointment. Rah.
It sure does smell smoky of late. The winds have died down, so I’m hoping they get the wildfires put out. I feel so sorry for those people! I would love to come get your rain, FCM.
I adore my GPS on my phone! Maybe FCDaughter just forgot she had one! She panicked, and called mommy instead. Very sweet!
Better start looking like I’m actually doing some irk…
Later, gator!
Well, poo. LaPlata is closed - power outages and a sink hole among other things. I got to campus to see a gazillion cars coming out, and when I tuned to a local station, they said the college is closed till 5 tonight. Did I mention it’s 25-ish miles from home? So I had a fun 50-mile drive for no reason. Oh well.
Looks like today will be spent cleaning and organizing my studio. Maybe I’ll reconstitute some of the clay that had dried out. At least I’ll have my hands in some clay today.
**FCD **saw his orthopedist this morning. Looks like we may be facing back surgery #5 before too long. They’re going to try steroid shots, but they’ve never worked before.
Yup, tomorrow is my RDO too.
Never did get to see or talk to the neighbor yesterday. I called twice and left a message. But she never responded. Maybe she will today.
Tons to do; so little time. Same old story.
BOLDING MINE
MOOOOOOM was postin’ nekkid!!!111
Howdy Y’all! Havin’ N.O.L. Ham 'n cheese sammich and chips. YUM!!!
Nava appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the gig in Chawklitland.
Ok, back to irk!
Jeez, I hate sinkholes. They never develop someplace useful. Imagine the good one could do if it developed under, and was big enough to swallow, some hellhole like Suitland.
ETA: AFAIK, no actual tornados, but there was rumors of a spotted funnel cloud. There was notable lack of excitement on the scanner last night
petablurf.
If by nekkid you mean in a robe and slippers, then yes.
I have sanded and repainted the cabinets and the drawer fronts. The doors got sanded yesterday, and they look fine. I found 6 gaudy-tacky drawer/door pulls that will be installed when everything is dry. **FCD **will hate them, but I love 'em - they’re really ugly. Unfortunately, I only found screws for 5 of them, but I’m sure we’ve got a couple of machine screws somewhere that will work just fine.
I’ll probably run the vacuum cleaner around here - the carpet is pretty sad looking. Then I’m thinking it’s time to knit. That works.
Afternoon all!
6 hours of conf calls today!
Knee surgery is scheduled for 2 weeks today. Yay!
Back to the conf call!
Ok then, dressed for Wally*World.
I’s home. I’m all sniffly and sneezey. I hate ragweed! So I decided to pack it in for the day. I foresee an early bedtime with some Benadryl. [sup]TM[/sup]
Dindin tonight shall be BLT’s and frozen fries which I shall thoughtfully bake up in the oven. Tomorrow shall be bacon cheeseburgers and fries. It’s bacon and fries fest here at da cave!
Well it looks like the chainsaw crew was here today and removed the downed tree. The landlord’s son told me yesterday they’d be here Friday morning. Oh well, even though I warned everybody I was coming in to the orafice tomorrow, they’ll probably be happy when I tell them I’m irkin’ from home instead.
Tornado warnings are scary. Please be safe. Speaking of the weather, the flooding is horrible out in Harrisburg where Corporate Comand Center #2 is along with my boss and other members of my team. My one co-worker out there has a bass boat and I joked via email that she’s lucky to have a boat. Then I saw pictures. Water almost covering a Pizza Hut, etc. Wow do I feel like a jerk.
Today’s supper will be more of those natural casing weenies on the Foreman with Stadium mustard and Heinz ketchup and a pickle on the side. Seems the nice folks at Citterio put powdered hot sauce on the capicolla which I can still taste from yesterday. Enough of that.
Bri2k
One thing I love about working here is they feed us lunch at least once a month, and it’s always quality stuff. Absolutely perfect Spanish rice, garlic rolls, chicken, tortillas, and beans. And salad, which I don’t eat. Yum.
Vacuuming done, dishwasher loaded, sink scrubbed, banana ingested. Waiting for my sweetie to get home. I’m thinking tuna steaks for supper, with green beans and maybe cornbread…
can you hold dinner until about 8:30? I have to throw a few things in the satchel.
It was a day off today, so I cleaned. Gonna watch some footbal tonight(Go Packers!!!.
mmmmm, I had a conference call today.
Aw, gee, rosie, too late. If it’s any consolation, it was really delicious…
