In Honor of Labor Day, the FAQ MMP

MOOOOOOM and gt use your google-fu. Y’all know it’s a Council on Aging and y’all should be able to figure out the area of Jawja I live in. From thence it should not be too hard to find a toll free number. :stuck_out_tongue:

Straight Dope: The Movie

swampy, I considered looking up the number, but it sounded too much like work. :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of work, second load of laundry is in the dryer, and the towels are up here to be folded. I just finished installing the handles on the 4 cabinet doors. I had to touch up the paint on the drawer fronts, so those pulls will have to wait a bit. I also emptied and started to refill the dishwasher, and I’m about to make me a sammich for lunch.

At the risk of jinxing things, the rain has stopped. My front and back yards are full of mushrooms. I wish I knew whether they are edible or not. Again, too much effort to google them, plus if I’m wrong, it could be really bad…

It’s only 76° out there - why the heck am I sweating so much? stoopit hoomidity…

We had ash from the fire falling on us last night as we sat outside. Snow in Texas is always weird, no matter what its form.

It’s about 70 degrees out now, clear skies and I’m off. I’m all caught up on yardwork, etc and am trying to decide whether to hunt up something maintenance related to occupy my day or just take the whole thing off. To help me decide I just prepared breakfast… bacon and a mimosa.

Gee, I wonder which way I’m leaning.

**lieu **- take it from me - household chores are grossly overrated. You should just use your google-fu, find swampy’s work number, and call him.

I’m enjoying my RDO, so far. I’m on my second cup of coffee, have the kitchen most of the way tidied and have paid a bill or two. Just a few more bills to go. It’s so sad to see the money fly out of my checking account.

I should head to the store today. We need a few things.

I finally caught up with my neighbor yesterday about the whole dog thing.

Turns out some of her fence boards had been torn up last Friday when the dug out and go out. One is cracked and broken up a little on the bottom, and the others have gouges from their nails. She offered to pay for them because she knows the fence is eight years old, but asked if we would put them up because she doesn’t seem to have the time or the know-how. I told her we’d pay for the boards and put them up. It’s about eight total, so no big deal. I kept my mouth shut about all the money I’ve lost to her kids; mainly because she started crying as she was relating her day and the last several months.

She’s had a rough go of it and is single mom because she and her husband split up a couple of years ago. Her kids are nightmares.

At any rate, I figure it’s just best to do the right thing and pay for what my dogs tore up.

It’s a very nice day out today. I should mow the back lawn, but I’m not sure I’ll get to it. We’ll see.

I first read that as a rummy pot roast. And I was thinking, “okay, I know some people add bourbon so I guess maybe…”

I just called to make a doctor’s appointment. I had my calendar for October in front of me in anticipation.

She told told me “We can’t get you in this week. How would the 12th be for you?”

“September 12th?”

“Yes, is 3:00 good?”

“Sure.”

I like the way she was almost apologetic that she couldn’t schedule me for “this week” on a Friday afternoon and I’d have to wait until Monday. I was hoping to get an appointment within a month and she was able to essentially schedule me for tomorrow.

That’s always nice. My HMO is actually very good about getting me in very quickly too.

I’m gonna try this again. I generally attempt to join the you guys at least once a year but I’m massively forgetful.

What’s 9/80?
I managed to get the floors swept (I hate sweeping but I have hardwood and 3 dogs so it’s a weekly irritation). Now I have 2-25lb dogs on my lap and my Nutrition textbook is JUST out of stretching range. What a shame. :stuck_out_tongue: Guess I’ll have to be irresponsible for a bit longer.

ETA: I only have 1.5 rolls of TP and half a box of tissues. I hope this doesn’t score me some squid time.

It is Friday! Whoo and hoo!

I have pretty much done everything I really really really had to get done today so I am going to go and grab some lunch. Seeing as I have not much to do this afternoon - well I do I just donwanna or haveta - I could extend The Crazy from OK to GA and annoy/surprise/mess with swampy:smiley:

Tonight is steak night in Casa de ems there is a new Farmers Market type store thingy open on the way way from work so I might swing by there and get some veggies for sides. I think we also need wine. We always need wine

Lunch time…I didn’t bring lunch today so Subway it is I think. It is close to the office and they have few seats outside where I can read my book for a bit.

no squid, shortdrum, but maybe the goat.

“9/80”? Where did you see that? Context is important.

9/80 refers to working 9 days over a 2 workweek period, getting 80 hours and a day off. One place where I worked, you did 8 9-hour days and 1 8-hour day, and you’d get every other Friday off. We called it AWS or Alternate Work Schedule. I never did it - I hate 9-or-longer-hour days. I used to do them when required, but I would never choose to work such a schedule voluntarily.

Laundry is all folded and partly put away. I think it’s time to knit…

Thanks for the explanation.

Well, my bladder and heartburn won out over the laziness. I annoyed 2 of the 3 dogs in the process but I really had to get up. I also straightened up the mess I made in the attic earlier this week and put my books on the bookshelf (only took me 2 years).

Now I have another conundrum. Do I do my homework or do I read A Lion in the Way for the millionth time?

:smiley:shortdrum:smiley: I like that. Goats are cute. Actually, squiddies are cute too. It’s the tentacles that worry me.

[Mom mode] Do your homework right now! Turn off the TV and the stereo and concentrate. Don’t give me any lip and don’t whine. Get to it! Or no dessert for you!!! [/Mom mode]
Did that help?

Only slightly. I don’t even have that much to do. It’s only the first week after all. I just really don’t want to be responsible today. It doesn’t help that nothing is due until Sunday.

Mooooooooom… I finished my Nutrition reading. History and Psych are already read. My Government book hasn’t arrived yet so I can’t do that. I haven’t done the writing yet. I’ll do that tomorrow. I also cleaned my bathroom and made myself lunch.

Now can I read my book?

if it isn’t a big deal, do it now, get it done. That way you can enjoy the rest of the weekend without having to schedule homework time which will likely be blown off anyway.

I am not a mom, but I’ve played one on stage.

You’re no fun.
