In just over 24 hours.... (Warning: Sugary contents)

  • Swiss Air SR504 will touch down in Fuhlsbüttel Airport, Hamburg. It will be carrying the most wonderful woman on the SDMB (and, in my prejudiced eyes, in the world), and she’ll be staying for an entire week.

Yup, my beloved Shayna (Hi, Sweetie) is visiting me. <long, happy, mellow sigh>

For an entire week, the distance between us will be measured in centimeters (OK, meters in extreme cases), not in thousands of kilometers. We’ll be able to talk while actually seeing each other and touch whenever we want to. We’ll be able to kiss, for real. And who knows, there just might be time to make a little love as well.

God DAMN, I’m so happy. And impatient. We’ll eventually make a little trip to Denmark, even.

And to add icing to the cake, the esteemed Mr. Coldfire will show his ugly mug in Hamburg for a couple of days.

Yeah, I’m a non-melancholic Dane right now.

S. Norman

Lordy, that is so romantic I want to just tear up. Honest! I’m not even being sarcastic.

:sigh:

ah, young love.

Hope you guys have a most fabulous time!!

Apparently I misread the title to say

(Warning: Surgery Contents)

This is probably just about as icky though…

So, Spiny, are you going to teach her to eat Danish licorice, or just stick with the old candy cane?

So sweeeeeeet! I hope you both enjoy a week chock-full of lovey-dovey fun.

Although maybe no lovey-dovey fun that includes Coldfire. That might be weird.

Looking forward to meeting you both in October.

Ahhh, you crazy love birds, you !

Just wanted to say how great it is to see this thing happening between the two of you – it’s enough to warm an old cynic’s heart. 'Course that doesn’t cloud my mind so much that I don’t recognise: “We’ll eventually make a little trip to Denmark, even.” as ‘interesting’. Nervous, dear ?

Have a great time and I wish the both of you a wonderful week walking on air.

I was afraid this would be garden variety glurge - the kind that usually has a .WAV of the cuppycake song playing in the back - but seeing as it’s Shayna who has the fabulous babe thing happening you are excused for the offense.

Wow! That’s great, Spiney & Shayna. Enjoy yourselves [sub]like I had to tell you to do that[/sub].

Have fun kids.
Jim

Nej!

The most wonderful woman in the world is touching down at Newark International Airport in New Jersey a week from tomorrow!

I insist that!

And she’s staying for a lot longer than a week.

(Seriously, have a great time with my cousin! You two are almost as cute as Anniz and I are!)

An adorable post. I hop you two have a rollicking good time!

A

I’m sooooo out of the loop! I don’t know who’s a couple and who’s not!

Hope you two crazy kids have lots and lots of fun. I’m sure you will!

but what is UP already with all these ultra-long distance love affairs? I have never noticed a long distance Doper relationship that was something easily do-able, like Phoenix and Seattle, or New York and Washington. No, it’s gotta be (wherever Anthracite lives) and London. LA and Germany. WTF?

I’m dying to know…are these affairs gonna continue at these distances or is someone gonna move eventually?

[semi-hijack](I have a reason for wanting to know, a friend of mine just fell in love with a guy who lives England, he was here temporarily, now they, too are doing transatlantic phone calls, visits, etc. And the question for my friend is: How in the world can we ever know if we should make life changes to be together if our whole experience of each other is a combination of hyper-romanticized separations and vacations? So I’m looking to the experienced Dopers to see what they are doing and how it’s all working out)[/semi-hijack]

stoid

That’s wonderful.
Have a great tiem together.

Thomas, my prince, thank you for this beautiful post. I, too, am so excited I could burst. Only 30 more minutes and I’ll be off to the airport - Woo HOO!! I can’t wait to be in your arms again (and you can count on lots of touching and, ahem, other stuff. :D)

I wish I had time to reply to everyone individually, but hopefully y’all understand my time constraints at the moment. I’d just like to thank everyone for the well-wishes and to wish everyone a fabulous Labor Day holiday!

I’m off to see my man - YAY!!!

{{Hugs}} all around…

Fair question. Here’s how it’s working out for me and the male porpentine (who is not a Doper, unless there’s something he isn’t telling me).

He’s English, and would almost certainly not be happy living in America, at least not permanently. I’m American, and would gladly spend the rest of my life in the UK, but I can’t get a permanent work permit without getting married, and I’m committed to stay at my current job until next May. After that, I’m hoping to get a job teaching English in Europe (probably Eastern Europe because of those pesky EU regulations, but at least it’s somewhat closer, and I know he’d find Prague much easier to take than North Carolina).

We’ve been together slightly over a year, and I was lucky enough to spend two months there this summer, so it’s not been entirely “hyper-romanticized separations and vacations.” And while I realize two months is still a honeymoon period in some ways, it was long enough for us to get a feel for some of the everyday stresses of living together and to have a pretty good idea we wanted to pursue things further. (No wedding bells, though – we’re not that sure, and we both agree that the marriage of convenience is a Very, Very Bad Idea.)

So that’s our story. I’m sure other folks in similar situations will have plenty to add.

Anniz is moving here next weekend. (Here = Washington, DC; There = Stockholm, Sweden)

Any other questions?

Oh, I am so happy for both couples [sub]and a little jealous, too[/sub].
These long long-distance romances aren’t easy. RickQ lives in England, I live in the US. When we met here at the SDMB, I was worried about our age difference, not the distance. Silly me. The age difference is pretty much a non-issue, but the distance makes things difficult.

Luckily, Rick wants to live in the US, so the question of where was easy. When is harder and partly depends on the whole visa issue. I understand your friend’s concern about having to make a decision about day-to-day life based on a long distance relationship, but I am very sure that Rick and I have a strong relationship.

He will be here a week from tomorrow for a two-week visit!!! It has been a long 4 1/2 months since we were together, which makes this all the sweeter.

(BTW, Montfort and Anniz, Rick and I will be in Las Vegas the week of Labor Day. That isn’t when you guys are getting married, is it?)

::raises hand:: How about Texas and Mississippi? racinchikki’ll be here a week from tomorrow.

Anthracite lives in Kansas, BTW. (I think)

She’s on her way Spiny!

Awww… I’m so happy for you guys! Shayna and Spiny Norman get to see each other today; Anniz and Montfort have a week, as do Brynda and Rick; racinchikki and Gunslinger will be together in eight days – and I get to see my sweetie in exactly 43 days. (Of course, that’s still 44 days too long…) I love that love is all around the SDMB.
