My irkplace is sort of OK. A big old Buttonwood tree blew over away from the building and uprooted the walkways. The Seabee’s
were there yesterday making new walkways. Our Child Development Center ( daycare) is unusable so the Youth Center shall be the daycare center while the CDC being repaired. The RV office I share a building with had some roof leaks and fallen ceiling tiles. It rained pretty good today and the Manager called and said they really had to scramble to move stuff and were told to leave. I guess we will get a tarp.
I went to the grocery store today and left my trunk open and well, it rained. I hear our neighbor installing a tarp on his roof now. Our roof is metal and held up well. We lost two vehicles. One has already been grabbed by the insurance people. We had 22 inches of flood in our downstairs junk room. My hubby’s helper is living in his office as his tiny little trailer was destroyed. Our neighbors whose ground level was flooded went back to their house when the power came back even though we told them they could stay here.
Moooom, I hope that FCD had a good trip down to Florida.
butters, you had to do more than just click your heels three times and chant There’s no place likel home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home to get you and [del]Toto[/del] Louie back to Big Pine, but I’m glad you made it.
It was Toosday, need I say more. We got a new contract person for a project that’s transitioning from our department to operations. She seems nice.
The floors are mopped, Nelson walked and supper et. Time to chill in the studio.
Sticky remind me what your job is? Sorry it’s been stressful.
Butters I’m glad you made it safely. It sounds like things are slowly getting back to normal. I hope you didn’t lose much in the junk room.
Mooomm Best wishes to FCD dad tomorrow.
It was 76 degrees here today (faints). I took Pepper to the dog park today and she had a blast. She met some puppies about her size and they ran themselves silly. She’s snoring away now. I’ll be up in a few minutes to start another load of wash, and get going on dinner. It shall be marinated steak, mashed N.O.T., and broccoli. I believe I might have a gin and tonic to go with it.
Made a vow today: i will not coach 8 or 9 year old boys again. Ever. girls are OK at that age, but a group of seven or eight boys is just…impossible. Or maybe it’s me, but I don’t think so. Their ears and brains have special devices at that age that they do not hear or react to the first three times you tell them to do something or stop doing something. And when you explain and demostrate exactly what you want them to do, they watch carefully and then don’t so it.
Sorry about that, rant over now. I coach 4-5 year old girls tomorrow, that is much more calming.
Dinner has be nuked and consumed and SDMB/Facebook will occupy time for now.
Butters, glad you’re home and starting the recovery, but it’s going to be awhile before ‘normal’ is restored, I think.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. TWPTB say next week’s high temps will be in the 80s. We shall see. Today is geezer day at the Pubic Sto’ but I really don’t need anything so I think I shall not shop. I cooked collard greens and peas last night. Dindin shall be cubed steak 'n gravy, collards, peas, smashed N.O.T. and cornbread. YUM!
Butters yay for bein’ electrified at least. It’ll be a slow process but eventually everything will get back to as close to normal as possible. I like Denny’s pancakes but we don’t have Denny’s around these parts. Hang in there!
MetalMouse havin’ been one once yourself you should know little boys are brain dead.
OK, now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then who knows. I might even mow today. Or not.
My morning commute is DARK!! It wasn’t all that long ago that there was at least a streak of brightness in the east - now the only brightness is oncoming headlights. Oh well…
**FCD **got to his folks’ place around 7, so it took him 14 hours. Needless to say, he was exhausted. His dad’s surgery is 8:30 this morning - they’re probably at the hospital already. I understand they’re hoping to do the procedure arthroscopically, (spellcheck doesn’t like that word) then he’s supposed to be in a cast till it heals, which could take a while, considering he’s 87. I don’t know how long **FCD **will stay there, but our vacation is 3 weeks from tomorrow… He wasn’t planning to stay there more than 2 weeks - that’s all the meds he took with him. So we shall see.
I had a pretty decent night, altho I didn’t fall asleep as fast as I’d hoped - partly because I forgot to hook up with Mel early enough, so I skipped it entirely. Still, once I crashed, I was out all night, except for a 3AM bladder call. So there’s that.
Today is supposed to be the last hot day for a while - YAY! I left the house open and the air off, since mid 80s isn’t ridiculously hot. We shall see how it feels when I get home. Meanwhile, work work work work work!
Denny’s give you a free Slam or meal or sumpin’ on your b-day; however the nearest one is 30ish miles away; ain’t worth the gas & time to go that far to get something for free.
Much-needed lunch break. The last hour or so of work is gone. Dammit. I saved, but I didn’t check in, and then I cleared the work area, which dumped everything I’d been doing.
I finally accomplished mowage. Go Me! I mowed both yahds, showered, and then collapsed in my recliner for a while. ‘Tis hawt and humid out even in the mornin’!
Umm… when you roast stuff, the oven isn’t supposed to make slightly odd noises followed by a sudden flashbang then go dead is it…? I’m not the most confident cook, but I’m pretty sure that isn’t supposed to happen.
**Nut **- you’re very astute. Ovens shouldn’t ever flashbang. Nor should gas grills. That can singe one’s eyebrows… so I hear… I certainly wouldn’t do something that silly myself…
So instead of roast, you’ll be having a bowl of cereal?
Butters, Denny’s is a surprisingly caring company. That’s coming from Irish Storyteller who works in their corporate headquarters. He was telling me last night how the company bought a couple new restaurants in Houston and did a quick remodel on them so the employees at the flooded out locations could keep their jobs.
Nuts, unless you’re roasting copper, I don’t think the oven’s supposed to flashbang. But what do I know? My mom used to time dinner by the smoke detector.
