Is it time for another Portland Dopefest?

The computer is your friend, people!

As far as the potluck goes, I can get the Rocky Mountain oysters fresh, but I’m having trouble getting a sheep’s stomach so I might have to pick up a frozen haggis down at the market. Is that o.k. with everybody?

Pickled inkfish! You forgot the pickled inkfish!

Hssst! What’s yer favorite type of salsa? Might as well kiss up to the mods now that SSA’s been ba… er, traveling in the Bahamas.

This menu is in danger of inclulding scotch eggs again, isn’t it??

If we have haggis we have to have whiskey, lots and lots of whiskey.

And perhaps we need to have a “scotch egg-free zone” for those of us (like me and apparently TVGuy) who think scotch eggs are an abomination unto the stomach.

I’ll bring cake (chocolate, of course) and some type of side dish–probably a big old “everything in it” green salad.

(actually, I’ve secretly tried Scotch Eggs and even though I could feel my arteries hardening with every bite, they really are awfully good…)

But I’ll neve admit that out loud.

I think I promised AudreyK another trip to the rose gardens once the seasons changed (not a whole lot of actual flowers during the winter, wouldn’t ya know), so you can tentatively count us in as well.

Of course this will apparently result in you all being exposed to something cooked by me, so this may not be welcome news at all.

Hrm.

August 2 works for me, but I’m taking the summer off before hitting school in the fall. And I’m partner of my own damn company anyway.

I guess I’ll leave it up to Mr Wolf. Although the locale might not work, since I’m a pagan and he’s an atheist.

You’ll probably wind up seeing us both struck down by a mighty bolt from above.

Courtesy of the Great Cthulu, of course.

I’m up for a side trip to the Rose Gardens if anyone else is. Portland’s flower park is pretty legendary. A jaunt to Powell’s books downtown is fairly du rigeur as well.

Anybody game for some of that on Friday or Sunday?

I’ll also suggest that we consider all chipping in on a side or two of fresh salmon. It’ll be in season and I have a simple poaching recipe from Chez Panisse that yields the most tender of fish. A little lemon, butter and capers on the side and all’s right with the world.

POWELLS! POWELLS! POWELLS!

Yeah, I love that place! Spent 83 bucks there last summer…

packs her hiking gear

I’m ready Zenster!

And the rose garden sounds wonderful as well.

83 bucks last summer, Krisfer?

Amateur.

I’ve been known to spend that much in one trip!

Krisfer, be sure to bring the young’un too. I’ll be happy to mull over Simpsons lore with the tyke.

So, who else is up for a field trip to the rose garden? My train doesn’t depart until Monday 14:25 on Monday. Regardless of anyone else, I will be hitting Powell’s.

Darling…

If you had read this thread you’d see I am not a resident of Portland. Nor am I a resident of Oregon… that 83 bucks was in ONE visit made last summer when I was up there visiting my sis in Battle Ground Wa.
moi amateur? I think not

Can we make it a side trip to both the rose garden and the Japanese Gardens? Hmmm, meet at Powell’s late morning for coffee and a couple of hours of browsing, then carpool up to Washington Park for the gardens, heading down to the church (stopping to pick up cars) mid-afternoon for potluck, ending up at the pub until whenever. A full day, but with restful pauses and much opportunity for conversation.

Oh darn! What would we do with the food? I can’t leave a chocolate cake with cocoa whipped cream frosting in my car all afternoon (and potato salad is right out). Potluck lunch followed by trip to gardens, a stop at Powell’s and ending at the pub? Or do it on different days, but then us outlying folks may not make it.

Regardless, the salmon idea is a go. Count me in to contribute to the cost.

Sure you are.

It’s not my fault that you only came up here once last summer.

A true non-amateur (I don’t know if you can be a professional Powell’s browser 'n buyer…) would have come back at least one more time, to spend 168.00 on the second trip.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Sapphire Wolf… whatever…

one uppers theres one in every crowd…

More importantly do y’all want gennywine Utah/Mormon grub? If so should I bring green jello with shredded carrots or pistachio pudding with cottage cheese in it?

look at all the horrified faces WHAT???

Seriously tell me what to bring…

When the time comes, I’ll give y’all a contact number. You can always drop off food in the morning, or even the night before if need be, and I’ll stick it in the fridge.

Powells sounds great. If you haven’t been there lately, though, you might want to pick up an updated map-they’ve added even more space and moved things around a bit.
Anyone up for a trip to the nude beach on Sauvie Island?

“Up” being the operative word?

NUDDDDEEEE!

um NO FREAKIN WAY! Not that I am a prude or anything but I have way too much sag to allow myself that treat! Of course a pair of high powered binoculars for viewing the beach from a safe distance would be okay! hehehehehe ahh ego…

I will definately go to Powell’s as well. And any other places locals think are awesome, specially the non touristy spots. So far in Portland I have seen Powell’s( I am not totally uncultured), a hospital parking lot (used to turn around), a Taco Bell ( stopped there in passing about 12 yrs ago) and the airport( wrong exist idiot Vancouvers THAT way!)! And a bunch of small streets around Powell’s… we came from the opposite direction than the printed out instructions… up one street down another HAHA

So, how many are coming so far? Should we plan on an even dozen scotch eggs, or should I ettempt to make a couple using emu eggs to split amongst the bunch of us?
