Sure! I’m a bit lapsy lately myself (due to a sick computer and a broken mouse—you ever try net surfing with just the tab key?) and I’m still coming.
Actually, I think that sounds just slightly more appetizing than the real thing! Which isn’t saying much, of course…
(I really do like Scotch Eggs, though!)
All right-Bumbafood!
Just a reminder coupled with a request.
Are there any dietary restrictions we should know about? Vegetarian? Diabetic? Any special drink requests(non-alcoholic)?
I think I’ve finally decided on what I am really going to bring. I’ve found a recipe for scotch eggs on the net, and will be making them, with the assistance of my beautiful wife, on premises.
Just bought my plane tickets! It will be the Bear’s first plane ride!
I was thinking of doing my spaghetti but I dont think I want to explain to the airline the crock pot in my bag… so still thinking… thinking… thinking…
I will email you Czarcasm and ask for instructions to the meeting place coming from Vancouver. I am freeloading on my sister that weekend:D
Just plug in 7600 North Hereford Avenue, Portland, OR 97203-3432 into your favorite online mapping system( I use Yahoo Search, myself.) St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
So, who’s bringing a musical instrument? I’ll have my flute with me and am hoping someone will bring a steel six string acoustic guitar. Any takers? I’d love to do some jamming.
I play the radio real well:D
As far as instruments no sense of rhythm which is why I have an oopsie pregnancy in my past…
We had the opportunity, perhaps, to meet up with you Zen… I thought of taking the train but since it went to Sacremento first it was a 2 day trip…I decided to fly straight to Portland… 2 days on a train with a 7 yr old * are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?* I am just not a martyr…
I could be talked into being your rhythm section by banging on various surfaces. No guitar though.
If Smashed Ice Cream is going to show, she’s a bass player, IIRC.
Dietary restrictions? I’ve got so many dietary restrictions all the Doctors will let me eat is boiled cardboard. But y’all can just let me worry about that. Just don’t be offended if I decline a slice of your Great Aunt Edna’s famous codfish meringue pie for some arcane reason, M’kay? (Actually all I really need is to know if there’s milk in anything so I can dose myself with lactase.)
Anyway, on the subject of food and drink; is there any system to this, or is everybody going to bring whatever they feel like? I’m debating on what to bring. I will probably select a hot dish, since I’m only an hour away, but still…decisions, decisions. Also, I’ll be skipping the morning festivities and will just be attending the eating and some of the drinking events.
BTW, have arrangements been made for Zenster’s salmon?
And what about Naomi?
For the poached salmon we’ll need:[ul][li] 2 Sides of whole salmon filet[/li][li] 1-2 Large poaching pans[/li][li] 1-2 Quarts chicken stock (home made or tinned)[/li][li] 1 Lb Butter (Lactase time Bumbazine!)[/li][li] 1 Bunch dill weed[/li][li] 1 Bunch marjoram or thyme[/li][li] 1 Medium jar capers[/li][li] 4-6 Ripe lemons[/li][li] 1 Roll waxed paper[/li][li] 2 Large cutting boards[/ul][/li]I’m going on a shopping run Friday. Let me know what I’ll need to buy. Prep time should only be about 30 minutes. This is a fall-off-the-log simple dish to make. Maybe someone can bring a few loaves of garlic bread to mop up some of the broth. A potato salad, slaw or Greek salad would be an excellent side dish.
I’d gleefully play several musical requests for anyone who is able to bring a huckleberry or tart apricot pie. I’ll even bring the vanilla ice cream for a la mode.
The kitchen has the cutting boards and the wax paper-what do you mean by “poaching pans”? WSe have inserts for a hot tray, if that will help.

If a Floridian may intrude a moment - would anyone be interested in hosting/squiring Miss FairyChatMoose to this charming gathering? I’d dearly love to get her diary autographed by the PNW contingent. She’s quiet, meek, doesn’t get rowdy drunk, and won’t steal your fries when your back is turned - really!
Do drop me an email if you’d like to play my little game. I can’t get to too many Dopefests, so I have to get my jollies vicariously!
We could host Miz moose. In fact, my Mom is going to be here for the entire month of August and we’re going to try to take her sightseeing part of the time. (whether she wants to go or not). so that might work out. We’ve also got an old but servicable digital camera. But as I said, I’ll be skipping the Rose Garden and other stuffs that many of the rest of the contingent are going for, so if you get a better offer, take it.
I’ll email you later.
I’d offer FCM but I am freeloading off of my sis that weekend already! I’ll have Bear bring you a postcard of a dinosaur!
Is there something we non-cookers who live far enough away that a hot dish would get cold can bring? Chips and dip? Soda pop? Sporks?
I like Blue Creme Nehi and Vernors, myself.
There’s a Fred Meyers up the street that we can hit, if need be.
And now for the bad news. I was hoping against hope that things might change over the last week. The personal friend(s) that I wanted to visit in the Portland area phoned me the other week and told me to hold off on buying my ticket. I figured I could fly or drive no matter what. She just told me that her company has required her to be present in full overtime mode for the next several days. About all I’d see of her if I visited is “Hi! Bye!”
This is a complete and total drag for me. I really wanted to come up and visit all of you. I’ll have to delay until I’m able to visit everyone on my list. The salmon recipe is in Volume II of the recipe thread if anyone wants to try it. I’ll check to make sure the recipe post sticks. It was already erased once before. I am completely bummed out about this and sincerely apologize.
