Context is not a double standard. When jayjay, who is gay, uses it he’s being charmingly self-deprecating.
When you use it, it’s clear that it’s derogatory, and will trigger emotional reactions. Certainly, there are many double standards here, as evidenced by the several threads S.E. has spawned, but this ain’t one of them.

You know, Phlip, when I posted the Underdog theme parody early, early this morning, it was not intended to be aimed at you. Someone in #straightdope chat thought that it sounded unduly agressive toward you and I started to try to clarify it because that was not my aim. The boards being what they were at 2:00 AM EDT, I never did get in to make the retraction/clarification, because you didn’t seem to find it offensive.
Now I’m starting to wonder why I bothered to care. This whole “I’ll come in and pointlessly attack a popular and respected poster but when people pile on cry ‘foul!’ and whine until they leave me alone” thing has been done before. Multiple times. Usually by posters of questionable integrity and reason.
