It has been explained to you already that it is the way the word is used that makes it offensive or not.
Dud, you are so dense your IQ is measured in Pascals.

And my use of “dud” was no typo.
Jesus, Phlip, what are you trying to accomplish here? Could you be more of an ass?

Dopers who’ve been here for awhile–does the asshole (or people being like assholes) quotient go waaay up here in the summer or something? I was thinking of starting my own thread about it, but it just seems like all of the jerky/intolerant/bigoted people in the universe come here in the first weeks of summer.

Oh, and to the Clique: The monkey is in daycare. I repeat, the monkey is in daycare.
Ok, I’m going to assume that you are not being purposely obtuse and try to explain something to you here.
If something is bad, or stupid, or it really sux, it is not appropriate to call it “gay”.
A possible equivalent would be to call the offending item “Elementary School Teacherish”.
Not only is it contextually absurd, but elementary school teachers may object to the comparison.
See?
Since this is in response to my post, I infer that I must be one of the “whole gay clan of the SDMB”.
Woohoo! Wait’ll I tell my wife!
And I, too, wonder about the constant casual references to cocks and assfucking in your posts, Phlip. Were I more of a Freudian, I might ask you if your real name is Bruce Heffernan…
The apostrophe, on the other hand, is your enemy. Watch out, they are sneaky little bastards that love to appear where they do not belong.
Haj
Holy Christ. Is EVERY gay guy from SDMB in here right now? Im being gang raped here!
Look people. Pound me all you want. I don’t care. I think you are all acting like a bunch of fucking assholes. I have expressed zero ill feelings towards gays, homos, fags, or whatever the fuck you deem I should call them/you. In fact, as I stated earlier, my brother is a flaming homosexual and also one of my very best friends, but that didn’t matter because the only way that anyone would believe that I don’t look down on gays is if I said I chug cock and take dick in my ass. I don’t think that that gays should be able to call each other fag any more than I think black guys should be able to call each other nigger (My dad is black BTW, but that wont matter here because I don’t chug cock).
This motherfucking thread wasn’t even about Esprix being gay. I dont care about that. He can eat as much dick as he wants. It didn’t matter. It was about him swooping down into every thread that mentions the word gay.
“Wow that’s gay.”
IT’S A FIGURE OF SPEECH YOU FUCKING IDIOTS.
A whole gay clan?

“Aye, fight and you may die, run and you’ll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our ‘homos’!”

esprix is a Defender of the Universe.
There are several of us.
Beneeen Qjckwrrzzz, the alien brain encased in Molybdenum at the impenatrable heart of our Castle of Justice serves as our central computer, and while tasking missions tries to send the appropriate superhero out for the job.
esprix’s powers are primarily social ones and are founded upon his enhanced gay gene.
While he’s formidable in his own right, it’s always the matter of the right man for the job.
For example, we wouldn’t want to send Megaton the living nuke to go quell a riot, would we?
I remember that time we were all real busy and Beneen was forced to send esprix out to stop this runaway supertanker. As it turned out the ship had 250 Swedish men on board who’d been out to sea for 6 months.
Not really having much choice, esprix used his outing powers on the Swedes and started a giant orgy on the foredeck. At the right moment he had all the Swedes point their member starboard, and the cumulative force of the Swede ejaculate was enough to prevent the ship from crashing.
Unfortunately all the goo floated into Coney Island, and the subsequent pregnancies and births of blond haired blue-eyed kids in the NYC metropolitan area has been a PR nightmare for us defenders.
So, we always try to be very careful to make sure we send the appropriate hero for the job. Naturally, esprix handles most of the gay issues.
I mean God knows what he would do if he was asked to handle the Colorado fire. Probably go looking for those Swedes again, the perv.
Well, Phlip, get this straight, and get it straight now.
“The world goes as it will, and not as you or I would have it.” (Points for whoever knows the source of the quote.)
You may not like what Esprix posts about, or who uses what terms when and in what context.
Tough beans.
In case you have not noticed, there is a fair proportion of the human race that has some prejudice, either rational or irrational, against men who fall in love with and/or have sex with other men, and to a very large extent women who do likewise. It would appear from your posting to date that you either fall into that category, or are a closet gay with internal homophobia. (I make no accusations of the latter; I just observe that what you seem to be doing in terms of entering threads involving gay life to make comments is often done by such people – and one or the other of the alternatives in that sentence is your apparent stance.
As for me, and a number of other people here, our view is “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” As I’ve detailed elsewhere (and frankly, don’t think you’re worth repeating it to, based on your attitude to date), I’ve had experiences in my life that allow me to have some sort of handle on what gay people have to endure in their everyday life.
Forty years ago, black people were okay, so long as they stayed in their place and didn’t get uppity. Being a sheltered white kid with no knowledge of what they had had to go through, I did not get involved in the civil rights issues they and those who saw and felt their problems were pushing. I strongly regret this.
The same sort of attitudinal demonification is going on now with gay people, and I need to speak out about it. So do all self respecting gay people, and all people who have taken Martin Heidegger’s warning to heart.
And, FYI, I have been happily married for 27 years to a woman who agrees with me, though with somewhat less understanding, as regards this issue. But what one’s sexual drive happens to be is somewhat less important than the idea that people deserve to be treated with compassion and respect and to have the freedom to pursue happiness in the ways that suit them – regardless of what your own personal opinion of those ways may happen to be.
In what way does it harm or diminish you for Esprix to be interested in equal rights for gay people? For him (and others, me included) to be advocating that gays deserve fair treatment? In short, what business is it of yours? What’s your issue here?
Question…don’t jump my shit or anything…I hear “gay” used to describe effeminate things, like ruffled pillow shams, long thin cigarettes, delicately enameled tea cups, flowery greeting cards, and the like. Is THAT ok? Just asking. Seriously.
No, it isn’t a figure of speech. It is an infantile comparison of things using gay people as the focus of negative comparison.
If I were your brother(and thank the gods that I am not), I would find you to be a hateful troll.
I would have responded sooner, but I was chugging cock and I don’t talk with a full mouth.
Esprix is a bit of a one trick pony. Everyone knows that. He even knows that and will make jokes about it. But Phlip, unless you can find specific examples where he has highjaked a NASCAR restrictor plate racing discussion into a pillow-biter [sub]ow! who hit me?[/sub] erm, I mean, homosexual rights thread then all you are really saying to the guy is not to talk about being gay. Esprix did no such thing in the thread you did linke to.
So fuck that, you’re not going to get any covering fire from this straight guy. However, I will give you small props on your reponse to iampunha’s post on the first page. I hate that parse-a-quote-to-death shit too.
Oy, what a load of smegma you are, Filldup
Now your dad’s black, and your brother’s gay. Oh please! What’s your mom, a jewish cripple? Christ on a crouton, why don’t you put your sperm-laden keyboard down, and give your masturbatory posts a rest. We already know you haven’t the interpersonal skills of an echidna, you lame-brained, goat testicle licking, teenage attention whore. Don’t worry about the puberty thing, ok, kid? You’ll find out if you like men soon enough.
Furthermore, for being our troll, here’s:

and Scylla,
There’s a whole lot of firemen working there, most of whom are male, and many of whom probably haven’t been home for a while. If he could get them all to ejaculate at the perimiter of the fire. . .
Coding and spelling errors.
Ugh.
Oh man that made me laugh. I nominate this gem for the Teeming Millions page o’ flames!
Whoo. Polycarp, hon, I believe that’s the first time I’ve seen you get really heated with someone. Great way to get Philp told.
As for the OP, my read on it is that Philp in his repeating that he doesn’t bear any ill will towards gays is trying to convince himself that he doesn’t, but deep down inside he really doesn’t like them and fears them. Yet, he’s curious about them. If I were a psychiatrist, I think I’d be really fascinated and try to get at the root of Philp’s concern yet desire to be “ass-fucked” by all the gay Dopers and their sympathizers as he complains about their persistence in fighting to educate the ignorant about gay and lesbian issues. Basically, I think he just wants attention. [shrug] Well, who doesn’t on this board? Get over yourself already.
Scylla, what you posted about the superheroes of the SDMB was absolutely hilarious, but I think you need to correct one thing:
This needs to be changed to read: While he’s formidable in his own right, it’s always the matter of the superheroes at the Castle of Justice sending the right man or woman for the job.
Now you get this straightened out immediately, or else I’m going to have to let my virtual paddle straighten out your virtual behind. Do you hear me?

Please, continue with your petty bickering…

Well, here are your options:
I can quote the entire fucking thing and then type responses at random, and thus make you hunt all over what phlip said to figure out where I got what from which where why how and who, or;
I can highlight bits and pieces and respond to them individually. This is what I was taught to do by those I consider more intelligent than I am. I have seen it used on this board with great efficacy. And let’s face it: given the choice between being straightforward and clear and just mashing everything in together, I’ll take the former.
Your call:rolleyes:
