It's A Rainy Night/Morning in Georgia... The MMP

There’s really not much to tell. I made risotto and then dumped in a (thawed) box of frozen squash, added a little nutmeg and a whole bunch of parmesan cheese. That’s it. It was the color of box-mix mac & cheese and tasted awesome.

LiLi, we had mashed purple potatoes for Thanksgiving. I used the leftovers in corn chowder, which KT nicknamed Viking puke because it was purple and yellow (the Vikings football team colors) and, well, really did have puke-like consistency. The flavor was good, but the appearance… I wouldn’t recommend using the purple potatoes in soup.

GT, those brownies look awesome. I emailed the recipe to a friend, and it’s going to be a race to see who makes them first. (I have to eat up a nearly full pan of Mexican brownies first, though, so I may lose the race. But what a way to lose!)

{{{picu}}}

I’m trying to decide if I should sign up for the Luminary Loppet. (Something I learned this year: a loppet is a cross-country ski race.) It’s not really a race, just an evening fun ski event with thousands of ice luminaries. A bunch of people from the skiing meetup that I go to are going. But… I’m intimidated by driving to Uptown alone, finding parking on a Saturday, meeting up with the meetup group, and skiing 5k. Convince me that I need to overcome my fears.

I CAN SEE!!!

It’s so nice to have unscratched lenses. Gotta be sure I’m more careful with them - no more hem of the t-shirt cleaning. Seriously…

Polish sausage is cooking. Daughter is on her way home. Waiting to hear when **FCD **is coming home.

We had a presentation about RIF today - lots of paranoia at work even before any decision has been made. We should know in March whether there will be a RIF or not, and that’s when it’s time to fret, IMHO. I’ve pretty much decided that I will retire if they do a RIF. I can’t let a young guy lose his job because I want to hang around for a while. So we shall see…

I was going to make chicken pot pie for dinner tonight, but I’ve decided to use up some chorizo that’s in the fridge so that we can join in on the ground hog day food. I think it’ll be fajitas because I have a pepper and some onions that need using up too.

{{{picu & Mr.}}} because I kept forgetting earlier. Hope he grows up…

And for the record, Charley is actually Charlene. We just did flea stuff on the whole menagerie, including her, and while daughter held her, I did the cat butt check. Dunno if she’s fixed or not - can a vet tell by just doing an exam?

Supper was weird - Polish sausage and Pringles and fruit punch. I declare that to be the traditional Groundhog Day Celebratory Meal! ™

Waiting for **FCD **to call and tell me what the heck is going on with him.

Ground Hog Day. All I have to say on that is I’ve done Punxie on GHD. Buzzard Day in Hinkley <sic?> Ohio is the better party.

Evenin’ Y’all! I’m home from a wonderful Candlemas service at the church house. We lit candles and processed from the Narthex to the Baptismal Font to the Altar and then to our seats. I got to walk, carry fire and sing all at the same time!

Go for it taxi! Live! Laugh! Love! Ski!

Ok, gonna go check out what’s happenin’ on The Dope for a bit then goin’ nitey nite cause I’s tahrd!

Nitey Nite Y’all!

OK, I signed up. I’m freaking out a little, especially over the parking thing. I don’t want to have to walk 5k before skiing 5k!

So I did end up with chorizo fajitas for dinner. They were good! I think they may become regulars on the menu.

Good for you, taxi! I’m sure it’ll be fun. Can you drive near there sometime before the Loppet and scope out parking possibilities? (I really like that word, by the way. It’s similar to the German word for cross-country ski run: Loipe.) Or can you drive with someone else?

I’ve read everything, but retained nothing; spent a good deal of late afternoon and early evening doing more clean-up because Local Best Friend called to say that she didn’t have power at home and could she and her daughter come over to spend the night? Their electricity has been out for more than 24 hours and the house is really cold. Her husband is staying at the house to make sure the pipes don’t freeze and to try to keep the fish alive (they still have some hot water, so he’s adding it every few hours).

So, I’ve done a couple of loads of laundry and put a bunch of stuff back in the office a bit sooner than planned. My brother entertained the 3-year-old quite well. She brought her Beanie-Baby-like kittens and they did all sorts of things both at the dining room table and under it. It cracked me up to see my brother (who is 6’3") sitting under the table, giving the kitten a voice.

Guess I’ll crawl into bed now…

Hugs all.

GT

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN Another excitatin’ day of irk looms.

taxi good for you! It’ll be fun. Granted I wouldn’t do it cause, well, I don’t ski but you’ll have fun.

gt good for you for takin’ your friends in! What is it with kids that will make a grown man do stuff like that?

Now, I am in need of more caffiene and brekkie cause rumbly tummy is very demandin’. Then purtification for irk must commence.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Moving to the new VunderLair has commenced. I checked out of the hotel this morning, and took my stuff to the new house to stay for the day. I go back to Cottonfield County tonight, and will only take my laundry and laptop with me. I’m doing a mini-move this weekend, and will have a bachelor camp set up when I’m done. No more hotels!

I can’t stay there now, cuz there’s only half a roll of toilet paper in the house. I know Swampy would be appalled.

The moving agent comes to the old Lair tomorrow afternoon to do the estimates and schedule pack and load.

Oh well. I need another IV bag of WTHU. L8r; carry on.

Good morning all! I’m still at home, will be heading out shortly to go to the eye doctor (optician) to have my eyes examined. I will hopefully get an idea of when the cataract surgery can be done on the other eye. I’m also stopping by the lab to have blood drawn, so can’t have any coffee yet. So I am not quite awake yet. Nope, not at all. :smack:

Hope that FCD will get to come home soon. Yay for GT having her friends stay with her. Thanks for the chuckle as I imagined your brother voicing a kitty, btw. I know I’m forgetting yet again, but no caffeine this morning.

At least today is Thursday, and it’s one more day after today until the weekend commences.

blurf.
That is all.

They are forecasting 1/2 inch of snow this afternoon, 1-3 inches of snow tonight, and another 1/2 inch tomorrow.

It’s the end of the world. Global warming my ass!

Cute story, GT! You’re a good friend.

I hope FCD comes home soon, Moommm.

Yay for no more hotels, VBob.

{{{Picu and [del]dumbass[/del] hubby}}}

Rosie’s sig to all…

Howdy from East Albeeeeny Medical Center!

BBBobbio I expect to hear that there’s at least a twelvepack of tp at the VunderLair when next you report from there. :dubious:
:stuck_out_tongue:

Rebo  The Apocalypse is upon us! Stock up on tp, bread and milk now! Not a minute to lose! Run screamin’ through the grocery sto’ warnin’ people the end is near! It’s your bounden duty to do so.

An emergency phone summit was convened with VWife this morning about the entire tp situation. The old Lair is on it’s last roll, but was just brought out this morning. Since we use Charmin Megarolls, that’s 4 times the linear footage of a standard roll.

Rest assured, a 12 pack is on the grocery list for Sattiday, as well as a new shower curtain for the new Lair.

We just got word from corporate to go home at noon before it hits. Since no one down here buys snow tires and the city’s infrastructure for removal is non-existant, it’s probably a good idea.

We’re ready at home but I did have a really big palm put in a couple of weeks ago. That’s the one thing that’s got me a little bit freaked.

Christ on a cracker!!! There’s a lot of snow out here!!!

Ok, I knew that we got a buttload of snow, because I spent way too much time clearing the path put of my driveway, and could see the huge mounds on my street. But this morning I ventured out to PT and to grab some lunch, and Oh. My.

Half the streets in my town are still one lane wide. Most intersections are blind because of the mountains of plowed snow that make you creep out to see around them. At the high school closest to me, the building and grounds people pushed the snow into piles at each end of the parking lot, and those mountains are up to 15-20 feet high.

People on my block that didn’t get mail called the post office and were told they either have to make their mail box at least visible or they’d have to go to the PO to get their mail.

Which reminds me -------- anyone know how on Robot Chicken the chicken will sometimes hold a sign saying “Holy #^&! Asscrackers" ------- what exactly are the symbols and sequence used for "#^&!”? I tried a google and failed (I’m on dial-up and couldn’t do the videos).

My mom lives near O’Hare, and she can’t even open her front door, which is where the mailbox is. As it is, it took her nearly half an hour just to be able to open the back door. She said she really doesn’t care what the post office does right now.

Big case of donwannas today.

I’m now officially amazed at FedEx tracking. This morning, I heard a truck driving off, looked outside and saw the back end of a FedEx truck going down the street. Not 15 seconds later, an email comes in saying that my package has been delivered.

Home - as of this morning, **FCD **is scheduled to fly out of Phoenix at 0650 tomorrow. It all depends on what happened today. I haven’t heard from him since before lunch. It’s tough to type with my fingers crossed.

**BBBobbio **- I meant to ask if you were going to camp in the new place. I was even going to offer you a futon mattress if you needed it - and that offer stands - just let me know.

Daughter will be late today. I’ve got the startin’s of veggie beef soup simmering on the stove. And I’ve got some sort of insectoids infesting my bed. I saw a couple of fleas, but my ankles are too bitten up for it to just be fleas. I fear it may be bedbugs. I’m thinking this weekend, all the linens will be washed in HOT water and I’ll have to get some sort of spray for the mattress and pillows. Stoopit bugs.

And if you have some good thoughts to spare, my BIL is still in the hospital. Last week they found his appendix had ruptured, then there was some sort of intestinal blockage. Well, he’s closing in on 2 weeks hospitalized. And on top of that, my sis has developed something, perhaps stress related, I dunno. Anyway, they could use some good vibes.

Glad tomorrow is Firday, and not a moment too soon.
