It's equinox time again in the MMP!

Afternoon all.

As the token vegetarian, I will also pass on the fried chicken :stuck_out_tongue: Pizza pretty much counts as a food group to me though…

Tis still surprisingly nice weather; yesterday was also pleasant. There was a food fair on in the local town, so I walked down there- it’s a couple of miles, first time I’ve tried it. I’m trying to get back in the habit of walking more, after letting it slip the last few months, and also trying to avoid unnecessary driving- we also had a biiiig queue outside the petrol station, blocking the road quite effectively.

The food fair was nice, if a bit small; I got a not-all-that-good Pad Thai (the cook was clearly rushed off her feet and skimped on the sauce, so it was a bit bland), and a very, very nice cherry brownie.

Today I’m trying to be good and get a start on my first assignment- I’m supposed to be analysing a paper, chosen by the lecturer, which s tricky, because it’s awful in almost every way. I wish they’d chosen a more ambiguous quality one, 'cos this is like picking holes in a net…

I’m not sure what’s going on with irk- I now have access to the ‘proper’ wifi network, and had a quick test of the irk computer yesterday; it will connect, and says everything’s properly connected, but I don’t seem to be able to log in to the main program I’ve been using. I’m not sure what’s going on there- I have a sneaky suspicion that that isn’t my connection, rather they’ve accidentally taken me off the programme access list early, but I shall find out tomorrow. Fingers crossed I don’t have to commute in!

Thanks, I conked back out.

Enjoyed a long, detailed, and very lovely dream about Other Shoe where he was happy, healthy, and full of life & love …

… until Monkey walked on me to wake me up, the little bastard.

Ah, well, I had a few moments with him again, even if they were imaginary.

Meanwhile, it’s shaping into a gorgeous autumn day here in Awake-Land a.k.a. Western Mitten State. Forecast is for mid-70s high and upper- to mid-50s lows for next several days.

My kind of weather!

Well, I have a few minutes to myself to have a morning toke & do just a wee bit more cross-stitch, and figure out some breakfast.
I’d like scrambled eggs.
I have eggs, I have butter, now I just need to get the wherewithal to { sigh } dirty up a small skillet & spatula.

Then high-ho (HA! Get it?) it’s off to work I go. Y’all enjoy your deheathenization - I’ll be worshipping the gods of smoke and fire and meat.

And fried okra.

Dickey’s is about the only place in the Midwest where you can get fried okra, and as much smack as I can talk about some of our side items (and I can, believe me) the fried okra we make is damn good.

Happy Sunday!

Cool, 53 degrees, morning at the park. I could have dressed a bit warmer, but I wasn’t too uncomfortable.

I’m with you on fried chicken, MetalMouse. I’ll eat it if it’s in front of me, but I won’t go out of my way for it. I’d rather have baked or barbequed chicken.
I cut up three chicken breasts and took them to the park. I’m not going to eat them and was going to throw them away. I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong, until one of the guys at the park said maybe it’s not me, it’s the chicken. I usually buy the store brand and he said he never uses that chicken unless he is shredding it for something. No matter how he cooks it, it is tasteless, tough, and chewy. Yep, pretty much how it always turns out for me. He told me to try the organic chicken from Aldi, costs twice as much but is cheaper in the long run because at least you can eat it.

I slept most of yesterday, and all night too.
I don’t know why I’m so tired lately.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today, so I shall clean.

[Pippin]But what about Second Breakfast?[/Pippin]

We can deep fry some of this for you so you don’t feel left out.

Mornin’ everyone.

Yesterday I completed some minor chores and mowed the lawn. I also cleaned the bird feeders and filled them back up. The birds pretty much rushed in as soon as I had the feeders hung.

Today is laundry and wash the Jeep day. I’ll also pack up so I can just throw toiletries back in the suitcase in the morning and head out.

I’m glad you got both some food and rest**, shoe.**

Those cookies sound delicious, nellie. I happen to like oatmeal raisin, but I would make them with golden raisins and sometimes semi-sweet chips. I also prefer more brown sugar to white because I like that caramely flavor too. I haven’t made cookies in a long while. Too much temptation for me.

I need to get an order from Costco delivered. I’m out of chicken thighs and I need to boil some up so the husband has something to feed Polar over the next couple of days. Well, something Polar will eat. anyway.

I prefer baked chicken over fried, but once in a while, I like fried chicken. I also like cold fried chicken. The problem with most fried chicken is that the crust is just not that good or it’s ultra greasy. The KFC near me closed down (good thing because it was filthy in there!) and I haven’t seen any good fried chicken places. There is a bar a few miles down the road from me that was known for the chicken and joes, but it went to crap too. Years ago, there was one Church’s fried chicken stand that had really, really good fried chicken. The crust was crunchy but didn’t shatter and the chicken was actually juicy. They closed down probably 30 years ago.

Well, time to get some laundry done.

You know what… I… I’m good, thanks. I actually do like spicy battered cauliflower ‘wings’ though- I mean, they’re basically a spicy batter 'n sauce delivery system. Can’t go too far wrong with that.

Oatmeal raisin cookies are pure evil because of their tendency to impersonate chocolate chip cookies.

I could go for a soft oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, though… :cookie:

That’s why I like the golden raisins, Misnomer! No mistaking them for chocolate. I almost always added the semi-sweet chips or chunks too. The cookies never lasted long because they were eaten up quickly, even by my salty snack-loving husband.

You all are all so cute! And have much more interesting lives than me, especially since my roommate has been gone to California for 10 days. Just me, the 3 cats and her two fishies. I’ve managed to remember to feed the fishies all but the first day and they seem to flourish with my benign neglect.

Got my Covid geezer booster yesterday, the first day they were offered. Locked my keys in the car when I parked outside the house returning from the pharmacy. Concussed brains will do that. House key was locked in car. Could see it. Had 3% or less power on my phone. Roommate, who usually rescues me from such ‘bonked brain’ moments was in California. Her 13 year old daughter, my 50% of the time shared custody housemate, had a key. She was an Uber ride across town but answered her phone, only to say “just a minute” and disappeared. Texted her mom in CA to text the kid to answer the dang phone while I still had battery on my phone to fetch an Uber. Then my Uber credit card on file had expired so a desperate race against time and phone battery to enter the new card. It was a football game Saturday in town so two Uber rides in quick secession were a nightmare to get. I’m trying to not worry about how much it cost. I’m hiding a house key outside, in spite of the police saying not to.

Off to get cleaned up and dressed for my Sunday with Hattie and Sorensen. Whee!!

BBBoo - getting locked out doth suck mightily!! We come in thru the garage, so as long as we have power, we can get it. We got a cypher lock for the shop so we don’t have to keep a key handy - just remember a 4-digit code. But we do have a key hidden just in case the battery on the cypher lock goes dead. Do you have a neighbor you can leave your key with? If not, at least hide it away from the front door - not under the mat or on the frame.

I just finished tearing down my veggie patch and pulling some weeds. There are lots more weeds to be yanked, but I’m just not feeling it. So I’m going to turn on TV and pick up my knitting. FCD is snoozing - the remote is MINE!!!

I love oatmeal cookies. And if you can mistake them for chocolate chip cookies, they’re not very good oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal cookies should look bumply. (Is too a word!) I forgot to say earlier that when I’m adding craisins, baking chips, etc., I skip the cinnamon and replace with a smaller amount of nutmeg. I love nutmeg.

I’m having a jammies day because they’re loose and don’t make me itch as much. I’m wearing a hoodie over my shoulders because the sleeves make my arms itch. A watch makes my wrist itch. Oh, wait. I have to go buy more antihistamines today, so I’ll have to don appropriate attire for that. My son should call today. My daughter and her hubs are at Glacier National Park–one of my favorite places—so she’ll call tomorrow night. And it’s plant-watering day. Such excitement.

Boo, you had me on the edge of my seat. Glad you got into your home finally! I’ve lost keys or locked myself out so many times, I wear a lanyard. Luckily, you have to have a key to lock the apartment door, or I’d have locked myself out several times by now. I wish I had somewhere to hide a key. (Also, you should post more often. I always enjoy your updates.) Have fun with Harriet!

MetalMouse, I understand about the fried chicken. (I love it, but only if it’s well-made. Grocery store fried chicken is awful.) You were kidding about pizza though, right? Right?

Shoe, sounds like you’re off to worship Arthur “I Am the God of Hellfire” Brown. So glad you’re eating and sleeping well, and that you had a “visit” with your dear Other Shoe.

Oops–phone.

Now HOW have you reached your current venerable age  without eating pizza?

Apartment is clean, and lunch has been eaten
Boo, that was quite the dramatic adventure. Enjoy grandkid time.

shoe, glad you had a nice dream.

I am having fun with Harriet! Got a glimpse of Sorensen after he woke up from his nap but he was on his way to eat so he only had time for one biggggg baby grin, but it was lovely!

I’d post more but all of you have much more interesting lives and you all do so much more every day, I get worn out reading of all the accomplishments.

Somebody put their finger in the pencil sharpener and now I have to do first aid. Back later!

There’s a big pot of bean soup in its last phase of cookage. As soon as the carrots and celery are nice and soft, we can eat. It smells gooooooooood!

I’ve also done some knitting and I tread the mill. I’m about to make myself a refreshing beverage, sans caffeine, and I’ll knit till the soup is done. Yum supper!

I did not achieve mowage, alas. It shall be done sometime later this week. I do have a turkey breast roasting and gravy on the stove, along with a baked potato and cranberry sauce. It is kinda chilly, so I wanted something warm and nummy for dinner.

An Englishman goes into an American diner and orders the soup of the day. When he sees it he says disgustedly, ‘Good lord! What is this?’ The waitress replies, ‘It’s bean soup.’ The Englishman says, ‘I don’t care what it’s been! What is it now?

Howdy Y’all! Deheathenization went well. The Acolyte was a no show so I was Verger/Acolyte. I can multi-task at the Altar with the best of 'em. We had sammiches and nappage. Then a little while ago we had an early sup. The kitchen is all cleanded up now and the biiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Chillage and sloth now ensues.

Boo that was quite the adventure. Enjoy Harriet time. I do not live an excitin’ life. Excitement makes me grouchy. I need no drama or trauma.

VanGo that sounds yummy! There is a turkey breast in da freezer. Maybe I need to yank it out and do a practice Turkey Day. One can never practice too much for Turkey Day.

shoe glad you had a dreamland visit with the other shoe.

MOOOOOOM hope the bean soup is good.

FlyBoy HAR!

I was indeed! But I need to get fresher bay leaves - I think mine have lost their ooomph. Still, a yummy supper.

The kitchen has been tidied, the leftover soup is in the fridge, and the dishwasher is washing. Plus I threw a load of unders into the washer - one less chore for tomorrow!

Yesterday, I made some sandwich rolls for the French dip I had going in the slow cooker. I think I nailed it on the first try. Spike did not appreciate that the recipe made only two fourteen inch long rolls, but some Sister Schubert rolls were an acceptable substitution for lunch today.

Fang and Mrs Magill’s parents are coming this week. I think I will try to double the recipe and make meatball subs for dinner next Saturday night.

Dinner tonight is leftover white chicken chili (thanks, Instant Pot).

Right now, I’m sitting on my back porch, enjoying the weather and reading The New Annotated HP Lovecraft.

And now, the hummingbird has just registered a complaint. The feeder is empty. I guess I’m making more nectar before I get dinner ready.
