It's equinox time again in the MMP!

Afternoon, mumpers! Well, technically it’s still morning but by the time I finish this, it’ll be afternoon. Had to log into work this morning as I hadn’t put an out-of-office message on my emails so I did that, and had a quick look at the inboxes in case there was anything I needed to forward on. There was an email from the timetabling team saying that the system would be unavailable until mid-morning so having had to send a bunch of fiddly little queries to a colleague, I doubt she’ll have time to do anything with them as she only works a half-day on Friday. I tried to explain to TPTB about the additional stress of an unplanned day off and the fact it would result in twice as much work on Monday when I have to catch up with everything, but to no avail.

So far this morning, I have faffed on the Book of Faces, I’m reading the Dope, I’ve booked my car into the garage to deal with a safety recall thing (the rear child safety locks may or may not work) that I’ve been putting off for about 12 months because I don’t have kids, and I don’t intend to transport any kids in my car, so the only issue would be if I wanted to sell it later.

I wanted to change the bedding but two cats are asleep on the bed and cannot be disturbed. Instead, I put some dye on my hair and have now washed that off. I should shove the vacuum cleaner round this afternoon as we’ve got a friend staying over the weekend, she’s not the judgey type so she won’t care if I’ve cleaned up or not, but I can feel my mum’s disapproving look all the way from the afterlife

Morning all. Up about 0630 and it is 46F outside, heading for 75F later today. Might get back to the 80’s next week but looks like the real hot weather is gone. Haven’t turned on the heat yet in the house, but some evenings may get me there…

nellie, like swampy says, glad their checking those contacts out for you.

FCM, enjoy the fair.

Ok, need to rescue the paper from the driveway and be about the day. All y’all have a good Firday.

Glad you’re getting the contact issue straightened out nellie.

shady, Honeycrisp are good, but my favorite apples are Braeburn. They are like eating apple cider.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels ready for the dryer and a load of clothes ready to go in.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I actually worked picking Braeburn apples on the farm next door to Braeburn farm in New Zealand, where the variety originated. I couldn’t eat apples for a few years after that experience, because I was at least 40% apple by the end of the season, but I can just about enjoy them again now.

No classes today, that’s the end of the first module in person teaching already. It’s basically a ‘how to read and analyse papers’ type module, with a bit of stuff online- I think it’s largely a skills calibration and way to get some early feedback before we start more subject specific things. Hopefully the other modules will involve a bit more content!

I have braved the annoying laundry (you have to buy a card, which comes in pre-topped-up versions, the cheapest of which gives you £8 credit- 20p too little to do 2 complete washes) and am now trying to catch up a bit with emails and get started with writing things up. It’s going well, as you can tell by the fact I’m clearly messing around on the Dope.

So the SSLAW kept breaking, we were short handed, and I ended up boucning between 7 different workstations. Then Gordie wanted a long(for him) walk.

I also like honeycrisps.

Happy Firday!

Chilly morning at the park, 50 degrees.
I need waterproof shoes; the ground was soaking wet. Not so bad when it’s hot out, not so comfortable when it’s 50 degrees.
CBD doesn’t seem to calm Echo down very much. She went after Remus today, for no discernable reason. She ignored me, but when Lucy’s dad yelled, she stopped and when he approached her, she sat right down in front of him. I gave her a time out and then she was fine.
She’s learning.

My son got out of irk early, he called me at 2:47. Ugh, do not want to get out of bed at that time. Next step is getting him a license, and then a car.
Baby steps.
He’s learning to speak up at irk. My friend isn’t his boss anymore, so he’s on his own now.

I tried to call the car place yesterday and the line was busy all day. I figure like FCM said, the hood isn’t in yet. One of my park friend’s truck has been in the shop for over a month waiting for parts. Squirrels got under the hood and chewed up all the wiring.
He swears he’s going to live trap the squirrels, bring them to the park, and let them loose in front of the dogs. Not really, but it’s a thought.
I was house hunting online yesterday and saw a house that had the TYVEK stuff on it. Seems the sellers were trying to fix up the house to sell it, and they can’t finish the job because they can’t get the siding to do it. So, they reduced the price to compensate. Nice house too.

Do you have cicadas Nellie? The year we had them bad it sounded just like the spaceship from Lost in Space taking off. It was loud, and constant, and some of the poor dogs I was watching wouldn’t go outside.

Grass has been mowed. Echo was so excited to see her ‘daddy’ as he calls himself. He always tells me that if I ever need a home for her, he will take her in a heartbeat. He did a yard across the alley before coming here, and she knew he was out there somewhere. She knows the sound of his truck.
I need for him to check out the basement, as we got water in it with this last rain. Always something. Not today though.

Ex-neighbor was supposed to come by today, but that has been rescheduled for the weekend. He has stuff to do and the weekend works better for me anyway.

I’ve read all but retained nothing, as I started this post hours ago and got distracted by stuff.

Bit of a scare this morning. FCD has been having pains in his calf serving the new knee. He said it feels like a charley horse all the time. He asked the therapists about it and they sent him right over to his surgeon, who sent him to the hospital imaging dept, fearing DVT. Fortunately, it’s not that. Just pain. We’ve got a massager with a heated pad - I’m going to try that and see if it gives him any relief.

But that pretty much shot my morning. We drove thru Arby’s for a couple of sammiches, and in a little bit, I’m going to haul the old paint cans from the basement to the truck. Tomorrow is hazardous waste day at the dump and SIL will take it for us. Then I may or may not tear out my veggie patch. Maybe I’ll wait till Sunday. I’ve got a bit of an attitude and I don’t feel like doing anything. We’ll see how it all goes.

I’m back again… Had minor back surgery on Tuesday. Looks like nerve root burning is going to be an every nine months adventure.

Still not working, but I found a job posting for some of the work I was doing as a “dotted line” responsibility where I was “loaned out” to another department. So it’s not my actual job, but I was doing it. I’ve applied, and hopefully that manager remembers me.

If he’d asked for a 10-24 or 10-32 screw, they might have done better. But yeah, a 10mm is quite a bit larger. An m5-0.8 is roughly the same as 10-32.

You’d like my boxes. I tape the ends of the flaps so the box has that much more resistance to being racked and popped open.

Yeah, I saw plenty of #10 screws. He needed a hex head bolt. In the end, he just worked from the dimensions provided in a catalog and used that in his model.

OK, gotta quit messing around and get something done. Quit distracting me - I swear, sometimes the MMP is like a needy toddler!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Just sometimes?

Hey! I survived a day at irk without fainting or even feeling sick! Yay!

… guess all that “eating food” yesterday (and today!) was a good idea after all.

On that note, I have everything ready to quickly prep a small pot roast tomorrow morning, so it’s ready when I get home. Carrots, onion, garlic, bay leaf, a little red wine, and worshersher sauce will be involved.

That leaves dinner for tonight, but I have a freezer full of easy stuff.

For now, I’m having a snack of fresh fruit (okay, I’m eating a sliced lemon - just a weird craving I have sometimes) and starting up my cross-stitch, as soon as I’m done with you fine folks!

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done and we went and et N.O.L. at Popeye’s (love their chikin, red beans ‘n rice, and bizkits!). Then we took a little drive out in the countryside. We have not done that in forever so it was a nice change. I was drivin’ so natch I needed nappage when we got back to da cave. Any other need to feed today will be via forage as N.O,L. was big.

{{{gotti}}} gentle :: tacklehug :: because of the surgery. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the possible gig.

MOOOOOOM glad it was not DVT. Aggravation is a good reason not to do anything. Matter of fact, I would prescribe ice cream for aggravation. Then again I’d prescribe ice cream for a lot of things.

nuts glad the laundry quandry (I made a rhyme!) got figured out.

Remember what I said about toddlers… Roxy eats lemons. Kids - sheesh!

It’s getting chilly - gonna be a great day at the fair tomorrow. Not sure if I should wear long sleeves, or short sleeves and a cardigan. Layers is probably the better choice. Meanwhile, chillage is in order for tonight - literally and figuratively!

on the ambulance coming out… is the job paying for it or are you getting a bill? I ask because when my uncle worked for a brick/block company and kneeled over his work paid for the er visit and hospital stay but he was on the hook for the 1200$ ambulance ride

Having finally put away laundry this morning, I’ve decided … that it’s time to do more laundry! Yay! The fun never ends.

Also cleaned out the basement litter box while I was down there.
Monkey “escorted” me down the stairs (e.g. tried to trip me) then ran over and peed in the box straightaway.
Thus reminding me to clean it!

Dinner shall be pierogi. It’s not super authentic (no Pole puts { gasp! } shredded Cheddar in their pierogi) but it shall be yum, because bacon and onion shall be involved.

For now, me’n’kitties are enjoying the evening outside. I’ve tossed them some treats, so that Monkey has something to “hunt” and chase/jump after, and Nikki … well, my lil’ old lady gets her treats, dammit!

Concur. Plus, you can do that sooper-sexay thing where you tie the cardigan around your waist.

Oh! And since some of y’all seem to enjoy being regaled with Tales of a Rat Breeder … one of the managers at work was about to toss the heels of some bread away, looked at me, visibly remembered and offered me the old slices to take home.

I told her my rats would think they hit the jackpot (they don’t often get white bread - huge treat for them) and boy, did they enjoy it!

Mooooooom, glad FCD didn’t have a DVT. They’re no fun.

{{{gotti}}} Good luck on the new gig.

swampy, you had the same supper as I did! I had a gnawin’ and cravin’ for fried chikin last weekend, but my Popeyes was closed. They were open this weekend with no line out to the street for the drive thru.

It was a cool day, so I did layers. All of the slated chores are done with a few slated for tomorrow and Sunday (the ones that aren’t weekly occurrences). Now for chillage.

I think Jollibee is the best bet for fried chicken, if you have one near you.

WHAT is the deal with fast food places not including napkins in DoorDash orders? WingStop did it to me earlier this week and McDonald’s did it today. Guys, especially if you are delivering to an office building, the customer might NOT have napkins already available!

Temp gig wrapped up today, haven’t heard about a next one yet. Not a worry at this point, I do need to do some major mini-cave excavation.

The bariatric center called this afternoon: I’m approved!! My surgery has been scheduled for November 1. :tada: The liquid diet starts on 10/18, which feels like both tomorrow and a year from now. Heh. Tomorrow I will finally tell everyone via Facebook. I’m also planning to create a private group (“Misnomer Loses It”), which I’ll use as a journal/blog so I can post about surgery stuff as much as I want without clogging up my feed — or worrying about random negative comments.

There are a few things I definitely want to have one last time while I still can — like Kraft mac & cheese — but I don’t want to go crazy over the next three weeks and drive my blood sugar sky-high again. I don’t want to sabotage my ability to heal/recover. I also think it would be much harder both psychologically and physically to go from total indulgence to a liquid diet. So, I’m going to try to still be mostly good. That said, my best friends have already started planning a “last meal” for me on 10/17.

Thank you!! The noodles will be a no-go for me, but I’ll look into that brand and see what else they have. I feel like I might have seen something by them on the shelf at one of my local grocery stores (either Safeway or Giant)…the logo looks familiar.

I dunno.

… and in true Shoe fashion, I’m too chicken$%!# to bring it up & ask.

Oh, in that case they have (powdered - just add hot water) bone broth concentrate.

Congrats on the approval!
