It's Pouring Rain in the MMP

Short short today, but tomorrow and and Wednesday is Prime Day. God help me. I’m grateful for cold beer and warm dogs.

Eye see what you did there.

Sunny: I used to only make buttermilk cakes, but cornmeal cakes (johnnycakes) are so much more flavorful.

As for a recipe, most any you find on the intertoobs work well. I use a medium grind cornmeal, usually a ratio of 2/3 cup cornmeal to 1-1/3 cups flour. Most recipes just call for the addition of eggs, milk, sugar, baking powder and salt. I add a splash of vanilla and about a half teaspoon or so of Penzey’s Baking Spice, as well, which raises the flavor profile.

Hey, I could use me some corneal pancakes.

Holy mother, I’m sick of itching. I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about it. My GP has referred me to a dermatology nurse practitioner. The appointment is tomorrow. No offense to nurse practitioners, but I don’t think they’re the right choice for weird or rare, and my condition is both. I suspect it’ll be a waste of time but am hoping I’ll be pleasantly surprised. I doubt I could get into an actual dermatologist for months. I got almost 4 hours of sleep last night, so that’s something.

Here’s one example of doing something I didn’t want to for someone I loved. When my son was 13 or so, he was really into roller coasters. (I suspect the stork was supposed to deliver him to Ms. Owl, but too bad, I’m keeping him.) I am PETRIFIED of roller coasters. We were at an amusement park one time, and he said roller coasters aren’t as much fun by yourself, so I went with him. Was I stoic, like Sari on the plane? Oh, heck to the no. I started screaming immediately and began entreating my son to “Make it go back!” We still laugh about it.

Meals: I’m Italian and don’t know how to cook without leftovers. I’d freeze more, but I only have the freezer compartment of my refrigerator. So I either share with neighbors or have the same meal 4 nights in a row.

I’m grateful for my two good kids and feel very blessed to have siblings I’m so tight with. I have a roof over my head (OK, I have neighbors over my head), enough food, and can get the medical care I need. And I have lots of good friends all over the place. And YOU folks are a blessing!

Swampy, I’m so sorry you lost your friend.

Mooooom, I was awake at 4:00 A.M., too and never did get back to sleep. However, I slothed, which is almost as good.

Oh, and we are sloshing with rain water, though the sun is out now. And it’s windy, which is fine by me.

And this, definitely this.

Boo

Howdy Y’all! We have spiffed da cave and I donned appropriate for the public attire and got my ‘script. Also nappage has been acheived. The beast is in the slow cooker and I shall add the N.O.T. and carrots in a bit. It is N.O.S. out and not hot, so have been out on the back porch enjoyin’ that.

shoe as others have said, we don’t mind eatin’ leftovers. Stuff like soups and stews can be frozen for later meals. Always label the containers with what’s in ‘em as well as the date. This is very important. The leftovers from tonight’s roast beast will become my version of Philly cheesesteaks tomorrow. I have somewhat adjusted to cookin’ for two as has OYKW so a fair amount of meals are just enough for the two of us. At least once a week, one meal will be a clean out da fridge meal and can be quite eclectic but nonetheless good.

I walked!!! First time in weeks! It was drizzly and I was sweaty in my rain jacket, but I did a little over 2 miles, so huzzah!! Having Roxy put a crimp in my routine, but I’ve decided on this: Sat, Sun, Mon, and Weds morning, and Thursday afternoon between sending the kid home and starting supper. We’ll see how that goes. I’d like to have a treadmill in the basement, but new ones are $$$ and I haven’t seen any near me in local ads. I’ll keep looking.

Supper will be steak, green beans, onions-n-'shrooms for on the steak, and I’ll have a sweet N.O.T. and FCD wants crinkle fries again. Glad to have that settled.

Meanwhile, my feet are kinda wet - I think I’ll shed the shoes and socks and done slippers.

MOOooooommm do you have the FiveMiles app? Post a “wanted” ad!
Or even just on Craigslist.
Someone nearby has a treadmill sitting around taking up space, guaranteed - they just need a nudge to think about getting rid of it and selling/giving it to you!

It juuuuuust started raining here in the western Mitten. Perfect timing, for I have procured all the things … including a pretty orange (chrysanthe)mum that I just had time to dig a hole for, by my front door & driveway so I can admire it on my way to & from work, which is now being kindly watered in by Mama Nature.

I also found awesome new KITTY TOYS !! Made of catnip compressed into fish-shaped bricks, with a feather tied to each. Monkey has been losing his little kitteh mind with one of them, now that he’s stuck back inside due to the rain.

I also bought a shitload of easy-prep, zero cleanup frozen boxed food (thought of you @SurrenderDorothy and hope you have much of the same) and some “kitchen project” stuff. I’ve never had roasted chickpeas nor ever baked oatmeal and Teh Interwebz inform me that they are both scrumptious treats.

Oh, yeah, and one more for the To-Do List: I have got to finish putting my clean laundry away! I need my hampers back!

I guarantee you are more sick of itching than we are of hearing about it. So never worry about venting here whenever you need to.

I finally got all of my laundry put away and switched the summer and winter clothes.
I need to either get rid of some stuff or buy more hangers, and getting rid of stuff is probably the better choice. I have some clothes that are so old, they should be tossed. Then I think, well there’s only a little bit of summer left, I’ll toss them at the end of the season. I never do.
When they are so bad that you won’t even donate them, you know it’s time to trash them. But old clothes are so comfy, and the only place I go is the dog park, and nobody wears anything nice there. If any of y’all ever showed up one morning, you’d think we’re all homeless people. Everybody there has dog park clothes, I think I am the only one who has only dog park clothes. Not really, I do have a few wedding/funeral outfits.
Just nothing in between.
Then there are times I look at my clothes and say I want to toss all of them and buy all new.

My favorite reading glasses just broke. Fortunately I have several spare pair and I actually found them in the first spot I looked.

Something is wrong with Echo’s nose, it’s more puffy on top than usual. It looks more like a boxer’s nose than a shar pei. She’s not acting any different and she doesn’t mind if I push on it. Maybe it’s just a bug bite or something.
I’ll be glad when Ripple is off the prednisone, he is getting a little pudgy around the middle. But instead of getting mean, which I heard is a side effect, he has gotten super cuddly and wants attention all the time.

Sorry you are itching so much Nellie, but you can complain away, it’s why we’re here.

One of the things I hate about living in a two story house is when you go up or downstairs and forget to bring something with you. Then it’s like, do I really want to go back up/down the stairs just for that, or can it wait until the next trip?

Did I tell y’all that the upstairs apartment next door is finished and is up for rent? So I’ll be getting a new neighbor soon. I told the downstairs guys to tell their landlord, nobody with kids, nobody who parties, and nobody who smokes. They thanked me for reminding them about the no smoking. The last tenants smoked cigarettes outside and the smoke would come right into my living room window. They smoked so much weed inside the house that the whole house reeked of weed. One of the downstairs guys got some comments at his job because his clothes smelled of weed. I’d prefer somebody who doesn’t use fabric softener either, but that is probably asking too much lol. Their dryer vents near my back porch and the smell of fabric softener makes me ill.
I really need to find a house with some acreage around it.

Howdy Y’all! We have supped and the kitchen is all cleanded. Chillage continues to ensue. I want puddin’. We don’t have any. Life is cruel!

Nellie here’s hopinl today is a less itchy day.

Supper was really good, and I just ate a red pear that was yummmmmmmmm!! The rain continues and it’s chilly which should make for good sleeping.

Thus endeth my day, except for chillage.

Oooooh, Prime Day. You’re speaking Jungle again! :grinning:

The most important question is “What amusement park & roller coaster was it???” I’ll be happy to give you my unsolicited opinion of it. I’m used to riding by myself since Ruble didn’t ride them. At Knoebels this past Saturday, I swapped partners many times over the course of 2 hours, and some of them were strangers (RIDE partners, people!).

It’s been dreary all day, and it rained again, so Gordie refused to go out. Making burgers, roasted potato wedges, and Elote.

Nah. We do want you to feel better. Maybe think of sandpaper?

cookie, on the rare occasion that I eat pancakes, I like cornmeal or buckwheat. My dad actually makes cornmeal waffles. They’re pretty good.

I got Nelson to the dog park late this afternoon, where he got to play with his pals Jersey and Ollie. The skeeters there had numbers under their wings. Even spray wasn’t keeping all of them away.

When we got out of there, I filled up the car. First time that I’ve put >$20 ($20.64 to be exact) in the tank in forever. I can tell that gas prices are creeping back up. I forgot to prep the breakfasts/lunches this afternoon, so I’ll do that before KP.

Rain’s let up, but it was windy for a bit there.

Evening all. Soccer practice on the field I usually use was cancelled due to wet conditions, so we moved to another park that was open and had practice…only 5 of the 9 boys made it, but we had some fun anyway. Jack’s provided sustenance which is now happily digesting.

nellie, write what you feel like writing; we’ll understand.

OW, ruble didn’t do rollercoasters?? They are the only reason I went to amusement parks.

Sari, good luck with the (potential) new neighbors. And I know what you mean regarding clothes…some things just FIT you and you hate to discard them.

FCM, congrats on the walk.

Swampy, condolences to your friend.

All y’all take care now.

Howdy everyone. Bumba I sent you a PM.

We had an interesting day today. A pharmacist called hubby from the place that delivers his IV medications and said hold off of tonight’s bag due to a high blood level. Then they called back and said someone will be here in the morning with a new batch And not to give the morning bag before that. Now hubby has been especially puny so I look up the side effects and he has them, mostly the dizziness, tiredness and weakness. This is the second time he’s been poisoned. It’s obviously not on purpose but damn.

The rest of the day I slept. I just cannot get enough sleep. I know it’s depression. I am supposed to go back to irk on Wednesday when my plague time out is over but I really can’t leave him unattended. The visiting nurse said he can infuse himself. Maybe if they hadn’t tried to kill him he could have. No way has the the strength to puncture an IV bag.

It remains hot here as is usual for this time of year. I envy you all with normal weather. I say that until it’s 75F here in January and y’all are snowed in. Thank God for A/C.

Great OP Sari. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

I just replied.

Well, we got our Covid test results this afternoon. We don’t have the plague after all. Now Wifey has to get with her doctor and find out what she has got.

It rained all weekend, but cleared off today. S’posed to rain again tomorrow though, and then dry up for a few days, hopefully.
I plan to mow the lawn later in the week when it dries out.
I’m sure I can find something to do around here.

That’s all for now.

I am feeling less itchy. Afraid to get my hopes up, but they seem to be rising anyway. Maybe I’ll actually get some sleep tonight. Sleep deprivation is turning me into a zombie. Walked to the grocery store today, loaded up the babushka cart, checked out…no wallet. So I walked home, walked back, and walked home again…4.4 miles total.

Belmont Amusement Park in San Diego. This was mid-90s, so I’m not sure the roller coaster is still there. It was wooden. Almost immediately, it banked sharply and went through a tunnel. Of course, I started screaming before the ride took off. If you’ve been on that one, you probably thought it quite tame. My son liked it, although I think he vastly preferred the one–maybe called The Colossus?–at Six Flags Magic Mountain in LA. He and his cousin rode that one six times in one day.

True confession: I screamed through the little kid roller coasters at county fairs when I accompanied my small fry. Six-year-olds were raising their arms and giggling. I was clutching the seat and screaming like a crime victim. Before it closed down, I had to be literally dragged onto the Little Dipper at Kiddyland in Melrose Park. And I was…well, let’s say well into middle age.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. And for all of you feverish pushing the buy with 1-Click button on the anvil page, I hate you.
